(Why the apology SJ?) GNVQ have been replaced by BTEC now- even less rigorous and Michael Gove is addressing this. I don't know what BTEC could stand for but I'm sure I could think something up if I put my mind to it. The participation medals in the OP could have been influenced by the Marathon. Presumably the children have to complete the race, jump etc.
How many people will get heat or sunstroke- especially since they are only allowed a measly amount of water. Someone I know was told by the local police (not this borough btw) not to expect a response if there are any problems during the olympics- he has a shop in an area badly hit in last year's riots!
I don't think that the children are fooled by this type of political/sociological/psychological correctness. Sitting on a bus I overheard a conversation between 2 girls in their early teens. They were talking about someone they knew who had achieved a GNVQ. One girl asked what GNVQ stood for and the other said 'generally not very qualified'.
There are other events going on in and around London which have nothing to do with the Olympics and if you are unlucky enough to be involved in them and have no choice but to negotiate roads around the torch relay, cycle races etc then it is an utter nightmare and is adding a lot of time to the journeys. The torch bearers may have contributed to their communities but is there anything else more self-serving than sport? The Olympics should be permanently sited in Greece and everyone else should contribute to them- it may just keep Greece from going under.
3 people on O2 in the same house. One person affected so it can't be geography. The person affected does have a 4 year old phone and the other 2 are a year old.
I have now had an email from TFL telling me not to go near Kingston because of road closures (not specified) on the weekend of 28th-29th July- but I need to go there- there are no alternatives mentioned. Is there a map somewhere?
People who buy a certain type of biscuit because they last a long time- yes because they are so horrible no-one wants to eat them, and when you open the biscuit tin...oh the disappointment...(I hope you are reading this!)
Near the Strand they have changed the direction of the underpass. There are 2 lanes coming south- one is a bus lane and one has got Olympic rings painted on it. Where is everyone else going to go? The Greenwich Planetarium is now closed until the Olympics are over. It appears there is no escape...
People nick stuff- wipers, hub caps, anything else that isn't nailed down- because they are thieving scum and have no social conscience. I expect all the rioters and looters from last year are out now so crime rates will rise again.
Some years ago there was a tv programme about cats in New York. From what I can remember they are not allowed out of their dwellings but people still keep them as pets. One of the cat owners had a workman in who climbed a ladder and the cat attacked and badly scratched his leg. The owner had the cat de-clawed and the animal psychologist said that the cat needs to express its hunter/killer instinct and therefore attacked the workman. Personally since my mother and sister used to treat our house cat like some kind of baby and spoke to it in a most stupid tone of voice and even let the thing sit on the dining table-I would only bring one into the house if we had mice and then it would have to be a bad infestation.
People in Sainsbury's who let their sprogs run around wild while they are choosing which yogurt to buy. I've had 4 near misses in the past 2 trips and one barged into me today- not going again- gonna get the home delivery every 2 weeks.
The only people who benefit from sport are the people who do it. 'Watching' sport is crazy unless you can't actually move around yourself and then it must be very depressing to watch it!
