  1. My dad offered to buy me a new car...I said you must be joking it wouldn't stay intact for a week where I live. He lives in a poor area and his car has never been vandalised
  2. I haven't I prefer Star Trek...saw a few clips only...too much hype and posey-ness
  3. I haven't read the linked articles but one thing that occurs to me every time it happens is that one of the very selfish neighbours in our road ALWAYS parks his massive van in front of any other house and NEVER his own......he could quite easily park it in another place that is near his house but not outside our homes....
  4. I doubt whether the most considerate of cyclists could have pre-empted my sister exiting her place of work onto the pavement and receiving a life-changing injury in the collision with the cyclist- who didn't even stop!
  5. The police may not be terrified to enter, but kids from the 'wrong' gang will not enter....
  6. Are you some kind of carpenter chappy?
  7. Easter is pagan too....the roman church has hi-jacked EVERYTHING .....
  8. white spirit but the environment doesn't like it
  9. My kids look at the 'Items Wanted' and then see if they have anything people might want. Although they always want to pay next to nothing in our experience....
  10. Instead of having carols we should encourage the performance and singing of wonderful poetry that has been set to music e.g. Hiawatha's Wedding Feast(Longfellow), and The Lotus Eaters(Tennyson), Sea Fever (Masefield) any more?
  11. People go to the doctors in preference to the chemist because they are on free prescriptions for whatever reason, or they have a season ticket for another complaint and therefore will be covered for the prescription. If you go to the pharmacist- (sorry to be a cynic(not really..I appear to have contracted Forumitis.)) they will SELL you something whether you need it or not.....I tried this out....
  12. This part is hilarious....'Together with other documents obtained by the Guardian, it builds up a picture of a group that, although sworn to a founding principle of brutal violence, is equally set on more mundane matters such as health, education, commerce, communications and jobs'.
  13. And, of course, let's not forget that we are in a ridiculous situation where they are paid for by the tax-payers of this country. I have worked in 'faith' schools and they are divisive. Many students also spend all day Sunday in their churches and many muslims also spend evenings and weekend time in the mosque. Many students have been brainwashed since birth and they do not baulk at openly expressing their anti-gay feelings. The first encounters they quite possibly have of 'other' people is when they go to university.
  14. The Dune series is great but I would have thought that an already sci-fi fan would have read it- Children of Men is a good book too
  15. Having been in and out getting every day shopping over the weekend I was convinced it was about the 18th December and was very surprised to see it is only the 7th. The nauseating xmas tunes in sainsbury's has done my head in and I will not be going there again until after the holiday.....
  16. Unfortunately there are kids in school who deliberately start trouble so that their mates can film it....they are probably hoping for some kind of fame on line...because they are not going to get any in other ways
  17. If you have a grinder you can grind up mixed nuts to make a nice buttery consistency and put it in them with chopped dates or some marmalade....healthy too
  18. I've been wearing ear plugs for about 7 years now. They work a treat. I suggested them to a friend and he said he couldn't wear them because it makes him feel like he is dead! I hope we don't get burgled because I would never hear anything.....
  19. It's a pity more people weren't suspicious and paranoid around the likes of him at the time!
  20. Blah Blah I bet your mum would have spelled vaudeville correctly in the Good Old days of proper educashon
  21. I second the Handmaid's Tale...also I thought Michael Crichton's Timeline was a good read (as is his State of Fear but it isn't sci-fi). If your brother in law is a fan he may have already read all the good ones....
  22. There you go then....there is hope for Syria....
  23. When my granny was 80 I started asking her what she wanted, or needed for xmas.....it worked very well
  24. 12 days of Christmas- starts Christmas day...runs to 5th January
  25. El Presidente is right about ISIS who are behaving in a worse way than the Japanese in WW2 and look what happened to them.....
