  1. Interesting about the police exclusion...the WRP (an extreme fascistic left-wing neo-Trotsky organisation) were actually planning (if they ever were elected) to replace the police with a 'Worker's Militia'. They were also going to lock up drug addicts and alcoholics because they reckoned that their 'society' would be so good that people would not need their crutches.......
  2. the only things in the UK that make double puncture wounds are spiders that I know of.
  3. All Labour councils will always create as much misery on the front line whenever the Tories are in central government on principle. So,for example, the dog poo bins are not emptied- and people don't bother picking up. I bought some very cheap caddy bags from wilco btw- they will probably not be good enough for Southwark though....because they don't cost ?5 or whatever for their own ones- yet another tax...
  4. It is crazy around here...I have a small car and the only time I go down the back roads is at the last minute to get to my house because 4x4s and people carriers come down and NEVER give way even if they turn into a road and you are already there. There is no reason why they cannot wait at the end. My daughter was in this situation and the wing mirrors of both cars were knocked- my daughter said let's forget it knock for knock but the other person said she was phoning the cops and after 10 minutes a belligerent big bloke turned up- so my daughter got in her car and cleared out....
  5. whenever I used to invigilate in secondary school there were always odd strangers of different ages sitting exams...you may want to phone local secondary schools or colleges
  6. People were bought and sold like any other commodity in the past- the big problem is that it still goes on today so no-one has learned anything (or chosen to disregard it) except that people are to be exploited. I am of Irish extraction btw...
  7. I nearly threw up in Sainsbury's. There was all kinds of plastic trash- including a plastic pumpkin for ?12 and plastic eyes and teeth to 'decorate' your pumpkin.

    So....

Our doctor used to say 'Right' after everything..
  9. The one next to the Sainsbury's has moved into the Cost Cutters but I wouldn't go in there if you are a recovering alcoholic because there are shelves absolutely chocka with booze all around the counter!
  10. Just because she is 76 and Australian and has promoted rights for women she thinks she has a golden ticket to inappropriately open her ignorant mouth. I heard a Jehovah's Witness say the very same thing when explaining why transgender people cannot be baptised (or whatever they do) http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/germaine-greer-defends-grossly-offensive-comments-about-transgender-women-just-because-you-lop-off-a6709061.html Transgender people have a much higher suicide rate than the general population, their families disown them, and the likes of these comments do not help...dozy mare
  11. The Labour party lost the election to Mrs T when its Militant tendency mob were exposed, so the true lefties will never stick their heads above the parapet again when we are close to an election. The State does try very hard to be responsible for providing things i.e. safety nets, but unfortunately there is a hard core of the population hell-bent on exploiting the system and perpetuating the black market
  12. I expect people to abide by the law of the land and the social mores.
  13. It's still functioning pretty well as a Post Office; except for the day I went there and the computers were down and so it was shut. I did notice however that every time anyone passed by the doors automatically open. This will mean the place will be freezing in the winter if you are stuck in a queue, or behind the counter!
  14. Unfortunately no-one gives two hoots about what others have sacrificed in the past so that we can all live in 'peace' and 'prosperity' today. I am not xenophobic (although I do not trust anyone in London) , just territorial.
  15. I recently heard a conversation on the bus between 4 elderly West Indians complaining about something that I didn't hear but they were saying things like 'you think they'd be more grateful after we came here in the '50s and fixed their country up after the war'...bizarre...I was bursting to say that they didn't have to come....
  16. (ha ha dog duck)...as a parent who has been particularly OCD about shoes since my own childhood was deprived in that direction, I should like to say that the fit, support, and protective nature of the footwear is paramount. I did not believe in turning my kids into fashion victims.....comfort and health is all
  17. This is true. UK politics works on 5 year cycles so they just plan for gaining the most votes in the next 5 years -re-bloody- diculous. Also the chinese nuclear deal includes a proviso that WE will make it financially viable for them..i.e. if they make a loss on the reactor and the electricity then the tax payer of the UK will make up the short fall. Ian Hislop referred to this as a bribe....

    hormains

Yes, Jah, I was itching to point out the cringe-worthy grammar etc but then thought as the person works in a special needs school.....in other museums they have a specific packed lunch area.
  19. Well, the only answer is to leave them alone to get on with their 'gang-banging'...I'm sure the poor bloke from Basildon would agree (if he was still with us. RIP)
  20. Agreed- it is an eyesore. Dread to think what re-vamping the area will do to the already awful traffic around there though.
  21. Friends of the Earth worked out that the UK can sustain 30 million people....you do the maths re: energy ffs
  22. DuncanW- I found the definition in the urban dictionary. I did study Latin and am particularly fond of 'puerile' and 'impecunious' that we use today
  23. And they are proud of themselves Mandem....from the Latin 'Mandemulus', meaning a collection of less than reputable characters.
  24. I'm glad I moved to South of the river...although there is movement..I'm sure the Ferrier estate used to be in Kidbrooke but the Ferrier boys seem to have taken over the Isle of Dogs.
  25. I was in the queue at the Iceland (RIP) and an African woman put her basket down in front of a West Indian man (she maintained that the woman in front had 'saved her place') and he was shouting at her that she is in England now and she has to queue up like everyone else, not shove in like she does in Nigeria ....And- my mother had a Jamaican friend who thought and said, that Trinidadians were dirty....Do we all need to feel 'superior' in some way?
