  1. Good news about Jericho. Politicians are all the same. They will bum-lick anyone for a cross on the ballot paper

  7. Holland and Barrett have buy one get one for 1p including manuka honey. (I was visiting a relative in a surgical ward at UCH and a man asked for manuka to be put on his operation site. The staff refused and he kicked up such a fuss that they put him in a side room!)
  8. Killing Yourself To Live- Black Sabbath
  9. Not trying to re-launch a debate- just resurrecting a 'gentle' reminder that a cyclist at speed is a dangerous missile. Given the population of ED is dynamic, I felt compelled.
  10. Southwark have also received monies from the EU for the Warm, Dry, Safe scheme. I am cynical about all of this however because of local democracy. It means that although the council receives the monies for schemes and it is ring-fenced it does not guarantee that the monies are spent on the front line....it could be used to extend admin at the town hall in those departments and central government can be accused of cut-backs...or given the extent of the leftie rantings on social media, people will assume it is government cut-backs. I hate the way that lefty, so-called 'socialist' councils use front line services as political footballs.
  11. Stringvest says his dad has Alzheimer's and was called upon. This reminded me of when a relative was unconscious in intensive care and I gave my mobile number to the ITU (it was written in a book at the desk) The only other party with my mobile number with reference to this hospitalisation, were the police. Immediately after this I received endless pre-recorded phone calls from personal injury lawyers and can only surmise that someone from the hospital or the police had passed my number on. It was so invasive at the time that I have become cynical and suspicious about the lack of privacy at these times. I can't help thinking that our elderly relatives could fall prey to unscrupulous members of the 'caring' professions
  12. Waiting at the pelican crossing outside ED station this morning I witnessed what could have been an horrendous collision. The lights were red and a pedestrian with Sainsbury's carriers was about to step off the pavement to cross (without looking- as you do when the green man is there!) when a youngish male cyclist came bombing across the red light....the expression of relief on the pedestrian's face (young man with beard) was priceless. After the court case this week concerning the pavement cyclist who could have killed a toddler exiting her front gate and the fact that a relative of mine has permanent damage to her foot as a result of a pavement cyclist who was never caught, and now this....Given the proliferation of cyclists on the roads and therefore an increase in irresponsible ones, we, as pedestrians should definitely take more care, since not much is being done to the idiot cyclists.....(excuse the sarcasm)
