Gas board knocked on the door at 1 am and said everyone had to leave there was the gas leak

Just wondering if there is a gas leak in a tenanted property and the gas board advises tenants to leave who is responsible for their accommodation or compensation I would’ve thought it’s the landlord because the accommodation is no longer habitable but am interested in other thinking/ knowledge
