  3. Do any of you remember 2 x sisters call Cissy and Vi, the name may have been Clapp or Trapp, who lived at 208 Crystal Palace Rd until the early/mid 1980's, they apparently moved out whilst in their 90's to an old people's home. And died a few days afterwards. They has always lived at the house I hear. A family I know asked me to mention this as they knew them.
  4. Your performance inevitably goes down as your hours go up, whatever the industry/sector - doctors included. And you are exactly NOT at your best when you are exhausted. The huge hours doctors work may not actually be worth the proportion of the ?797 million that may be attributed to payment of claims against faults caused by exhaustion.

  10. So as a 7 year old when I plonked my tape recorder next to the speaker of the telly to record Top Of The Pops every week I was breaking the law ?? Yikes !
  11. Declan - it's a very basic lead. Sorry I am not an expert on the terminolgy, but for converting form mini-disc I just took the MD recorder into Maplins and said I wanted to connect it to a laptop, I spent under a ?5er. It's gonna be something like 'micro-jack', '3.5mm jack'. If you have a stereo (like a component system) then yo may need to come out of the rear with a L/R channel (like what goes to the amp) then connect it with a '2 to 1' connector to a single lead which goes to the laptop. Maplins get these questions every day, do some measurements, take some pics and take what you can to that shop or similar and they willsort you out - or someone on here clever than me can advise the names of this stuff ! I have to do the same with my tapes soon (and vinyl..) so would be interested how you get on.
  12. I'm not saying he's the next Mayweather, but he does seem set for a big year - lightweight is a strong division and he could deliver some good action. The people who are shouting him as a future P4P king etc are jumping the gun though !
  13. TE44 - Thanks or the further detail. So there was (going by the info you posted) more to it than just 'dressing up' and hence I can now understand the reason for restrictions being imposed. Sean - the comment "Mr Trigger was given a five-year Asbo in December 2008 after waiting near a primary school dressed as a schoolgirl" in the article was what led me to believe he had got an ASBO for wearing a schoolgirl outfit. I'l have to try harder in future.
  14. Would second what HAL9000 advised. I have done the same from mini-discs. Depends whether you want that actual 'tape' sound. Audacity is free to download from t'internet.

  17. Man dresses as schoolgirl in public and gets ASBO ! There's no mention of this guy doing anything untoward / malicious to anyone so isn't this all a bit draconian ? If he's been doing anything abusive, or planning to, in respect of school kids then fair enough, but if it's simply what he likes to stroll out in then isn't that everyone else's issue to get over ? I mean if that's his thing. I may feel 'harassed, alarmed or distressed' when I see somebody walk past with piercings on every inch of their face and tattoos across their forehead but if they're not threatening anybody what is the problem. To be fair - the implication is something perverse is going on, but I don't see why they have not mentioned it if that is the case, unlikely that the opportunity to paint him explicitly as a perv would be missed if it was there for the taking.

  19. "If they still have any issues about freehold ownership I could put them in touch with the officers who proved the agent was really the owner." Jeez these leaseholders may have gone through the mill properly on this one, poor people, what a nightmare for them. The 'owner and his business partner' sound like real d!cks. Imagine them being your freeholder ! :-S
  20. Steveo - there were many MPs claiming considerably less than COULD have been claimed, but they were not identified so explicitly by the media because they would not grab the headlines' intention, namely shock horror we are being stitched by our MPs. There was a feature I did see where one MP had claimed a really small fee and he was saying that to claim more than he needed to do his basic job would be not serving the people and a misuse of public funds. I don't think he had a moat that needed hoovering for ?15K though.

  22. Thanks James, I take it then, the chap who purchased the old house and built the new house/flats and promised the parking etc will be PAID for the house ? Can't his freehold of the new house/flats be secured and any costs incurred in getting the house back to at LEAST the condition it was when he started this fraud ? I trust you will not find my use of the word 'fraud' wholly innaccurate. Doesn't there have to be a punishment ? Simply taking ownership of a ruined house that he surely does not want anyway is no real penalty. Is this guy being prosecuted or is what he did legal !?
  23. It's a slightly broad brush she has used, it would not be sensible where there is a relationship issue or the parties just don't know each other, whether for geographical reasons or, say, a family split. However, I think there should be a trend back towards extended families in houses, where feasible and the parties get on. It could be one small step towards the slow repair of our society. My Grandfather of 97 is cared for by several aunts/uncles and dozens of grandchildren when he could so easily have been deposited in a state-run old people's home, to wither and die. He is a very fortunate man. But it does not suit all families. Deeches comments are making many assumptions, I'm surprised she was so 'black and white' about it. Cannot be an obligation and would be impossible to enforce, both from the logistical aspect of enforcement and the resource limitation of the 'obliged carers' ie. size of property, stairs, time to commit to caring as opposed to working to pay the mortgage. What IS a shame is the pittance that full-time family carers receive from Govt.
  24. I feel uneasy with the implication which could be drawn - that if you are non-religious (even though you may well have your own views on how we 'came to be') you may not be afforded the same judgement of 'good character'. Would the extrapolation of this be that athiests by definition are of lesser 'character' than a religious person and even an agnostic !!? Interesting for a country where a small miniroty actually practice religion.
