Noisy helicopters during the night!
KidKruger replied to Lizziedjango's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
FYI - A couple of years ago a house on the corner of Crystal Palace Rd and Sylvester Rd caught fire and when the fire services had extinguished the fire they realised it was a cannabis farm and the power had come from jumping the electricity meter. I think the property had been rented by Chinese/Vietnamese folks. (please PM me if you wish to accuse me of being racist, non-PC or a member of the KKK for making the distinction, so we don't distract the thread !) -
Clearly your first course of action was to immediately Register on EDF and post your predicament - isn't that enough ?
-
Why not go down the steps and have a look for yourself - that way you may even be able to influence the outcome of the "does the record shop do good business?" question. If you like music and are friendly and sociable you will probably have a good time. He knows his music and is sound, there's a very varied selection of vinyl and CDs. As mentioned above previously he also promotes various bands/acts. Good addition to the area.

I think the guy just has stuff to do / people to talk to / business to conduct and he's being efficient with his time by not waiting hours until his shift is over or taking a chance a customer won't come in. I'd wager the chap would be very surprised to hear anyone even cares that he's on the phone or wants to exchange niceties of the 'hello, good morning' ilk !

Strange man near the Peckham Rye Cafe / One o'clock club
KidKruger replied to jimbo1964's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Louisa - not convinced that someone who was SUSPECTED of 'undesirable behaviour' towards children would not "really give a toss if their name was put up on this forum" because they know they're really innocent. There is a a huge amount of stigma associated with this kind of behaviour and whether you yourself know you're innocent is irrelevant, as evidenced by teachers who're falsely accused and never work in education again even though all allegations have been withdrawn. The concern around this stigma causes issues for both guilty and innocent folks. -
Strange man near the Peckham Rye Cafe / One o'clock club
KidKruger replied to jimbo1964's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Genuine question: Can somebody please explicitly tell me what the 'fear' / suspicion is - this is aimed at those who have / can envisage the 'fear' and would welcome the police being called ? I'm not being antagonistic I genuinly can't comprehend what it can lead to, especially if the child(ren)being 'filmed' are with their guardians. Don't want any grief, just a plain answer to the question. -
Is it Me? or is East Dulwich boring now?
KidKruger replied to mattindulwich18's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Compared to 18 years ago when I moved here as a whippersnapper this place SE22 ROCKS !! Maybe I've grown into it but it's also changed massively, both in terms of the demographic and what's on. Shame Sainsbury's closed down all the original butchers, bakers, grocers, fishshops but with local interest there are now replacements for them which probably offer more choice than the originals (I do miss old 'Dave the Butcher' on LL though !). The one thing I was bothered about until a couple of years ago was that I always had to go elsewhere for my live music, now it's here most weekends - top hole ! Some folks started a folk club, some folks run a repertory cinema, there's open-mic nights - many locals endeavour to create things they desire but which aren't here yet so yeah I dig the place and DIG the people. Mat if you can't find what you want here in SE22 and you are able to articulate what it is you want that would render the manor less 'boring', perhaps you can rustle up some interest locally and create the things you want to happen ? -
Pathetic old racist fart on Frogley road (Lounged)
KidKruger replied to Shu.Kurimu.Sensei's topic in The Lounge
The bloke who used the term to Sensie's missus was being offensive, whether he meant to or not that was the effect of what he spouted, quite clearly. That scumbag needs a dose of what perhaps Sensie is trained at (assuming he's a 'sensie' in the Goju-Ryo / Shotokan stylee) so as to leave him horizontal for 10 mins so he can ponder what he's going to say next ! -
Started going there again when the management/staff changed - before that I'd sit and wait to order - one time it took 20 mins so I left as strangely I had more to do than sit in their cafe. The lady who runs it is from Wales I think (wait for it ....... "so whats Wales got to do with it why do you have to mention that etc.etc.) is very friendly and chatty, they knock-out good cafe food and takeaway sandwiches/rolls too !

I find the 'description that cannot be mentioned' useful, since, if i get a knock on the door from some person of 'description that cannot be mentioned', I will be able to make a judgement on whether it's the likely the same person who's 'description that cannot be mentioned'. A bit like when the dude down near ED railway station was always scrounging/intimidating people for their cash the 'description that got slated for being mentioned' was useful to help narrow down if it was the same person. Have to say that most threads on this website seem to go off on a "ooh you did not say that in the most perfectly non-PC way possible" sort of tangent. Perhaps we could have the website modified so that folks who're interested in the purpose of the thread can stay on track and not waste too much time, but those who want to haul a poster over the coals for their contribution can press a "they have been naughty" button and proceed there unmolested (sorry, should read 'molested', but not in any bad connotation/way you understand [standard disclaimers and caviats go here]) to assassinate each other and demonstrate their articulacy and how much better than everyone else they are.

Good point Curmudgeon, I'll tell my lad again they don't mean any harm and alcoholism / drug addiction is a disease. Problem sorted then. -
tramps on whateley road........
KidKruger replied to sweetgirl's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My 4 year old boy asks me every time to cross the road before we get near that house, he says the people there 'scare me Daddy'. Though I try to explain to him that drunkards (druggies ?) screaming 'Paedophile' at me when I walk past with him is not intended to cause him any harm, he just does not see it that way. Nor when I walk past the house wearing a pink shirt and someone there shouts 'Gay boy !' is any harm intended either I presume. It's just my lot (and my son's) that we have to bear that abuse because we live nearby. I wouldn't dare to complain about it because that would be stepping above my station as a normal citizen and I may be left open to cries of 'intolerance' - especially from EDF posters. -
BIG follower of Old Time. Was round Doc Watson's house in August as part of my pilgrimage to the players in North Carolina / East Tennessee. Karenin - if you can play old-time banjo I reckon I can play some guitar alongside, I follow old-time and mountain music mainly.

I had the same parking ticket a couple of weeks ago on Sunday near Dulwich Park, the road I think is called Gallery Road (goes past Belair House). Dulwich Park car park was full so we drove around and Gallery Road was empty, there was a sign showing cars parked half on pavement which I took to mean we can do that there. 3 hrs later on my return, a ticket. I was the only car with a ticket, the other 20-30 cars (which had arrived after me) had missed the traffic warden ! Apparently the sign indicated you can only park half on pavement BEHIND the sign, not in front of the sign. Oh fair enough then, here's ?60.

Broadband performance in SE22 9EL
KidKruger replied to KidKruger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Mmmm good point - incidentally where DO I find bargepoles... The kind person who advised how to check your speed told me this (don't ask me questions on it though as I have not tried it and don't have broadband [yet]) : " Use the address www.samknows.com (http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php). Then put your postcode or telephone and it will show you the nearest exhange. There is an intereactive map as well. You can find a lot info on this site. Let me know if you need more information. " JM - I have PM'd same to you in case you don't read this. -
Broadband performance in SE22 9EL
KidKruger replied to KidKruger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sue - I'm already using AOL dial-up and has been slow for last few years (not that I have anything to benchmark it against but I have friends on dial-up who send me links to websites that I can't open or use, but presumably they are utilising them OK). But based-on what you have said and other friends locally the AOL broadband offering is a bit weak. JM - I will PM you tomorrow and pass on instructions of how to check your speed, I got the instructions from some kind person on another thread who has been through this. I've hear BT helpline is not great but now I can't get Virgin Media I'm clearly going to have to take a calculated gamble of phone-line providers. KK -
Hi, I have read / contributed on other threads about broadband service selection but now that Virgin have advised my specific house is not catered for I'm having to consider the options available via BT phone lines (as opposed to the fibre-optic cable which Virgins deploys). Virgin deliver to about 35 doors away ! I have looked at various provider's websites but the question is : IS there anyone living in the above postcode who gets decent broadband speeds and if so who's the supplier / what level of service do you subscribe to (and what's cost) ? I could speculate but best to hear from folks within a few yards of where I live. My postcode is Crystal Palace Rd right by the CPT pub. Any shared experience / advice gladly received. Dog Fouling in the East Dulwich area
KidKruger replied to jrussel's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Licence all dogs and DNA test them. When poo is found in street, take a sample and send to the Dog Licencers. If DNA match to a Licensed dog, issue ?120 fixed penalty. Whole scheme to be built into cost of Licences. Don't think anyone will believe that 'flag stuck in the poo' comment is serious. -
Surely MattinDulwich will never post on this website forum again !! I think in the UK where people drink so heavily (even in SE22) it's silly to expose kids to pubs, where people are there to drink alcohol predominantly (even in SE22) and therefore will inevitably experience the effects of alcohol which we all know too well. I suspect the underlying reason for taking a kid to the pub is that the parents can drink. His point is fair though, if I get the chance to pop out for a pint with my mates and the place is full of kids I'll generally move on because if I want a place full of kids I can stay at home. I think a lot of landlords are trying to cater for several market segments when they promote family action at pubs, a bit like your petrol station selling groceries. Also I get p*ssed off with all the prams onthe high street - but mainly because I can't get my baby's pram through !
