  1. Not heard of Wren. Ikea are good although some builders complain because the cupboard don't have any space behind (i.e. are flush fitting) whereas most other kitchens have 50mm being for pipes, wiring etc. so a bit more work in drilling holes for utilities, bit not much and not beyond the capability of a half-decent builder We have a Wickes kitchen which is serving well and has a 20 year guaranteed I think (Ikea right have 25?) Also look at buying the worktop separately - e.g. worktopexpress - can save 25-50% of the worktop cost that way. We fitted the cabinets ourselves and got a carpenter to do the worktop. And organised plasterers/plumbers/electricians in to do the rest. Time consuming but not difficult - good luck!
  2. Near Upland Road and Dunstans Road junction, PlusNet ADSL is 18MB/s (i.e. BT Openreach infrastructure) We had 78MB/s Infinity 2 for 18 months, but went back to ADSL as it's a fraction of the price (and no difference to us).
  3. Shetland is as far north as Anchorage, Alaska. And 300 miles from Iceland and around 200 from Norway. But 800 miles from East Dulwich. Edinburgh is also further west of Carlisle.
  4. I stand corrected Lazero, thanks - I was sure that the Monday-Sunday cap applied to Oyster but you're right
  5. >40 minutes at 1830? Is that because it's so full, it's not stopping to let anyone on! Last time I caught a 176 outside Charing Cross a month ago, it was half full and I was at Dulwich Library within 40, maybe 45 minutes. That was around 1830 in the evening. I wouldn't want to try it at peak peak times though.

Clapham Junction to Waterloo is rammed in the morning rush hour, you might have to let at least 2-3 trains go by before there's space. Coming back you can often get a seat at Waterloo though. I've taken the 176 back from the Strand at 1830 on occasion and it's taken 40 minutes to Dulwich Library, which isn't bad.
  7. PeckhamRose - You can get a refund directly into your bank account if you phone TfL (as they don't give you the option online). Oyster and Contactless are identical for capping. However you need an Oystercard if you want a railcard, other discount or travelcard. And you can register and manage a contactless card online in the same way you can register an oystercard.
  8. In the majority of cases they're the same - https://tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/contactless/is-contactless-for-me Contactless caps you on a daily and weekly basis. If you want a weekly, monthly or annual season ticket, you need an Oystercard. Also, if you have a railcard or other discount, you need Oyster as you can load the oystercard with the discount. However, if all your travel is outside zone 1, then weekly travelcard on Oyster may be cheaper. Lastly, if you only use the train on a regular basis (more than 3 days a week) then get a paper season ticket from the station, at least 1/3 cheaper than a travelcard

Err, the 2025 did run? http://www.recenttraintimes.co.uk/Home/Service?ServiceId=28407150
  10. You get 70p back if you have a rail only season ticket (which works out at roughly ?1.60 a journey). This is the first time this year I've been eligible.
  11. Trains were bad this morning: the 0807, 0817 and 0827 all cancelled from North Dulwich. I walked up to Herne Hill, thinking that the 0847 would have been rammed...

Odd...there isn't an 0653 train from ED to London bridge. There is an 0655...which hasn't been canceled at any time in the las 6 weeks http://www.recenttraintimes.co.uk/Home/Search?Op=Srch&Fr=East+Dulwich+%28EDW%29&To=London+Bridge+%28LBG%29&TimTyp=A&TimDay=6a&Days=Wk&TimPer=6w&dtFr=04%2F05%2F2016&dtTo=01%2F06%2F2016&ShwTim=AvAr&TOC=All&ArrSta=5&MetAvg=Mea&MetSpr=RT&MxScDu=&MxSvAg=10&MnScCt=2&MxArCl=5
  13. Well they're in use as of today, Platform 1 (towards London Bridge) takes an extra minute or two to get to.
  14. Try washing powder (non-bio if possible). Just put a large mug full down, a little water and leave for 30 mins. Not guaranteed but has worked got me in the past. It's likely to be something rotten in the u-bend. The washing powder enzymes may get rid of them.
  15. A third recommendation for Woodfalls, excellent service
  16. Never had any problems with availability. However I found that uber/minicabs are a cheaper option (for me anyway). Worth doing the maths...
  17. I'm reminded of when Nigel Lawson, then Chancellor of the Exchequer, had his credit card refused in a branch of Threshers during the early '90s. He'd forgotten to pay his most recent statement. Everyone can be late or be out by a hundred pounds or so, and I would put Corbyn in that camp. Pushing thousands of pounds around the houses via Panama etc. is deliberate obsfucation.
  18. Judges are human (contrary to common belief!). Stay calm, if the other side kicks off the judge won't like it. If you're a reasonable human and present a reasonable case it's actually very hard to piss off a judge. Treat them as an father/mother-in-law. The judge will make things as easy as possible for you, don't feel intimidated even if the other side has a solicitor. What womanofdulwich said, if you have a mountain of information, index they key documents, use labels, whatever works for you. Try and be as organised as possible and have some sort of index, so if you're asked an obscure point you may not know off the top of your head, say "give me a minute whilst I refer to the index please". The judge won't mind. Try and see the other side's view so you know how to argue any points they may throw. Good luck!
  19. SMBS sell Borja-Booja chocolates, expensive and very nice too. http://www.boojabooja.com

Completely unprofessional survey of course.

To be pedantic, methylene chloride is not banned. In the UK, sale has been restricted to trade use only. And quite rightly, it's pretty dangerous stuff, even in the US there have been (unsuccessful) moves to restrict its use.
  22. A zombie chain. Am amazed they made it past 2008. W H Smith only keep going because they have franchises in major railway stations, airports ad other high-footfall places. And charge a small fortune for drinks, tobacco and full-price books. Boots...similar model now to W H Smith only with expensive toiletries...

Let's all go back to the great smogs of the 1950s and embrace coal fires, unfiltered petrol/diesel engines and rudimentary health care, when life expectancy was lower and infant mortality was higher. To the devil with progress :-)
