Oil at $40 a barrell...lucky escape for the sweaties
Lowlander replied to ????'s topic in The Lounge
Everyone's forecasts are laughable in hindsight. The SNP chose the most optimistic figures and the UK Government the most conservative. Both were wrong, along with most of the banks (Goldmans were forecasting $100 a barrel against the SNP's $110) -
(a)that doesn't look bad you should see our house! (b) get someone in to verify, but I reckon you're looking at at not very much to secure it (looks like it's been there a while so if it's lasted this long they may say just leave it...) © Plaster is weak, it won't be holding it together (d) I've see worse just skimmed overly a competent plasterer and no further cracks appearing 20+ years later (e) get a professional opinion!

Denmark Hill station: Beyond a joke

Who would buy a paper ticket to Victoria? It's far cheaper to use Oyster or contactless -
If it's affordable you'd be crazy not to. (as long as it's a long term investment say 10 years +)

Only if you're a car enthusiast. There's no problem in having a mix of good quality tyres in good order, fitted by a competent garage.

What DaveR said. We used http://bennettwelch.com for a recent lease extension, they have a lot of experience in this area http://bennettwelch.com You should certainly have been notified in advance of the works taking place and a bill beforehand (sadly little chance to challenge it)...

Fireworks after the Paris Attacks... Really?
Lowlander replied to littlethistle's topic in The Lounge
Fireworks were prohibited during WW2 for obvious reasons. Did people resist in 1946? Of course not! Life goes on. -

Because if no-one reports minor crimes, the police get less funding, and crime rises. Vicious cycle!

A Beckenham junction to London Terminals season ticket is ?1316 and would allow you to make those journeys ( as it allows you to take any train to any south London terminal station apart from Waterloo) So Kent house to Herne hill is on the route from Beckenham junction to Blackfriars, which is allowed. North Dulwich to London Bridge is on the Beckenham junction to London Bridge service, also permitted.

Err, I wouldn't buy croissants from a supermarket...pitiful things. If you can easily make them then you should set up business in ED - big market for you!

Mmmm...a plain croissant is made of butter, flour, yeast and salt. You can make it with 100% English ingredients. Your beloved Hovis? Wholemeal Flour (Wheat), Water, Yeast, Wheat Protein, Salt, Vinegar, Malted Wheat, Toasted Wheat, Emulsifier: E472e, Malted Barley Flour, Caramelised Sugar, Soya Flour, Vegetable Fat (Rapeseed, Palm), Flour Treatment Agent: Ascorbic Acid. This product contains 62% wholegrains from Wholemeal Flour. Do tell me where you can grown Soy and Palm oil in the UK? Or event the EU?? Looks like it's you who's being patronised :-) (PS it was the Egyptians who discovered bread..probably..along with beer..do you walk like one too?)

Could be damaged cabling or horrendously long (I have found 50ft coil in a cupboard once!) Have you tried disconnecting the ring signal connection? That can also have an effect. 20mb is at the top end for ADSL but you should be able to get at least 14mb in Dulwich. Also try your map here http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk to see what your neighbours are getting.

You can use a standard rail season ticket between any stations on your route, for instance my North Dulwich to London Terminals station lets me on and off at East Dulwich, Peckham Rye, QR Peckham, Sth Bermondsey and London Bridge). It costs ?712 a year. Any South London station to London Terminals season ticket is valid to London Bridge, Blackfriars, Waterloo East, Victoria, Cannon Street, Charing Cross and Vauxhall So that adds Tulse Hill, Denmark Hill, Elephant and Castle, Brixton and probably quite a few more to my list of allowed stations. For instance a Wimbledon to London Terminals would add Waterloo to that route and a whole load of permutations. If you post on this helpful forum they may be able to find you a ticket that would work as it gets a little complex with the routing guides but potential to save you ?572 http://www.railforums.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=105 Which stations to you want to use?

A freshly baked plain croissant with butter (or dipped into milky coffee) is delicious. Not a snack if you have two or three of them.

I went from 21mb on OH copper (ADSL2 provided by BT) to 70mb on OH copper (BT Infinity). So I would suggest it's something wrong with your line or setup. (I presume you've tried all the usual remedies i.e. checking internal wiring, sockets, filters, modems/routers, wifi channels/speed selections/different devices)? The only reason I did it was because Quidco gave me ?250 and I got a ?150 Sainsbury's card, so the price per month went down to ?20 or so. Otherwise I'd be tempted to try PlusNet or another ISP with ADSL2.

Bus Route 12 to get Boris Buses

I was in Hong Kong in 1994 where the buses had sealed windows and ice-cold air-con in tropical conditions. -
I've got a 10 year old B&Q own brand cordless which is still going strong. No hammer function but I've fitted a kitchen, bathroom and easily drilled through brick and masonry with it. Was about ?40 in 2005. Also get decent drill bits, I got a set of Black and Decker ones at the same time and they're great. If you're an infrequent user and will always have easy access to a plug socket then buy a mains powered one it will probably outlast you...

Opinions of online estate agents - Purple Brick etc.
Lowlander replied to damzel's topic in The Lounge
Showing people around is only really a disadvantage in a buyer's market. You can do fixed open hours and/or by appointment (as is common in Scotland e.g. Sunday afternoons open hours or evening appointments). -
BlueOrchid Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > They still live in central London so I doubt they > are using the forum yet. :-) Good luck with that! Most incomers start using local forums before they move to an area precisely to find out more about It (and then promptly stop using it when they move in)!

The whole thing's a bit of a car crash. The legal profession is very old fashioned and good on her for trying to shake it up a bit. I didn't think much of the whole thing until I read what the male barrister posted under his own daughter's photo. That's just a little bit creepy. She is quite hot though.
