I would go in and talk to customer services. Six years is the maximum I think under that act and that seems a reasonable life for a kettle - 18 months is not! I've got a bog standard Asda own brand one that's been going for 10 years, used at least three to four times a day (and it's never been descaled.
  2. Oddly enough I did this just the other week - wrapped in newspaper and put in the green bin.
  3. I bought a second hand, 10 year old Ford Mondeo some years ago with 110k on the clock for ?1000. One previous owner. It's now 17 years old (1998 reg) with 140k. Starts first time every time. Never failed an MOT, service between ?100-?300 every year depending on what needs done. If money's tight then I would not spend more than ?3k; you'll get something in perfect condition for that price.
  4. Hahahahahahahaha! That and Sepp Blatter's bizarre opening speech has made my day.
  5. is this unique to Nero? Just ask them to move. Happens on trains/buses/pubs. They're just chancing it.

Whether or not they're foolish is irrelevant to that.

It was James who raised that not me. The point is, even if you're hurtling towards the junction at 60 and a pedestrian steps out, they have priority. The OP is right in a sense, junctions are invisible zebra crossings.

If they have started to cross they have priority, so give way"
  9. Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that people increasingly seem to think that cars have the right of way at the junction of East dulwich grove and lordship lane!!?? People seem to think they can just drive through road whenever they wish and people should stop for them! Sometimes I really feel like posting on a forum! Lol. #pavementrageinED

The only thing allowed to pass your lips with a pint is a cigarette (preferably unfiltered).

Sorry. Anyway also look at the "reassuringly expensive" Stella and branding; people get a sense of satisfaction from buying premium or recognised brands. Which when it gets to ?325 for a cup of coffee becomes absurd... But what is that scale in East Dulwich? The new Italian place and GBK (pay extra for ketchup!) perhaps?
  13. Fair point, but it's not exactly News is it? Been going on since the dawn of time when important family living in the penthouse cave got the best cut of raw mammoth. During the war the rich managed to live it out in Park Lane hotels eating three course meals every night whilst the rest of the population had to make to with tinned snoek.

  16. Try Shipley - have used them for transporting a few things from Scotland to Dulwich. Put in details of the shipment and you'll get quotes from couriers/movers who have space: http://www.shiply.com/

Car speedos typically overestimate by 10%. But I'll be sure to keep to 20mph from now on :-) Southwark aren't enforcing it. Neither are the police. So the only penalty is your conscience, or an accident. Essentially, if it gets people to moderate their speed to between 25-30 as opposed to 30-35 then you're reducing speed, saving lives and (arguably) reducing pollution for little cost.

I find it dead easy (although I admit to keeping the speedo around 22 max). Whenever I drive in Southwark the only places I feel safe driving above 20mph are the red routes which aren't affected anyway. As a pedestrian it's far easier and more pleasant to cross the road (e.g. junction of Heber Rd and Lordship Lane). My car is achieving exactly the same mpg.

Plus you spend a third of your life in bed so spend accordingly.
  20. Oh another tip - do check the prices from ED station to Birmingham. Often it's an extra ?1.50 or so more than from Euston/Marylebone which includes the train to London Bridge and tube so about half the price of using contactless/PAYG. Works with most train companies.

Everyone has done something regrettable once in their lives. Hats off to those who did it in spectacular fashion!
  22. It's only 1h38 from Marylebone as opposed to 1h22 from Euston (and much cheaper with arguably more comfortable trains)
  23. I bought an ipad from the Covent Garden store around 16.00 a few months back - asked a few questions on the models, got my answers, selected, paid and was out within 5 minutes. Is it for repair? Don't you have to make an appointment anyway? Most of the people appeared to be tourists and schoolchildren browsing...

Was the traditional way until around 30 years ago, still the only way in many places up north! Best to ask if you're concerned as many may still fry fish in same oil as sausages / pies etc.
