  1. They also have a bar / room upstairs which is never used... I've always dreamt of putting on "club nights" (ie: me playing mouldy folk, goth-pop and sprightly reggae to little or no repsonse) there.
  2. Me and Mrs Rob - and various SE22 affiliates - have eaten in there quite a few times. It is the tackiest thing since the invention of glue-topped tacks, but the margaritas are very strong and the pefectly adequate food soaks them up with the minimum of fuss. Personally, I LOVE the fact it looks like it's been transplanted from Cleethorpes circa 1978...

    The Plough Pub

As someone who lives reasonably near The Plough and - as recently as three years ago actually went in there - I say tear it down and put a great pub in its place. And do something about the car park - like a great Herne-style garden for the little 'uns so us responsible grown-ups who've accepted that we're not 22 anymore and have got on with our adult lives have a choice of places to go for organic rib roasts and cheese plates.
  4. Tilly: Have you read this? You'd love it...
  5. App the Spam a la Orange was off round at Eric and Margaret's place :(
  6. Mr Liu's is good, old-fashioned fun (ice old Tsing Tao helps). Chopsticks is a bit boring. EE House and Zin Oriental both do good takeaways...
  7. Fair point Sean - retracted! I only mentioned that as there has been some griping on the board about kids in pubs. And I didn't mention Mrs Rob and I came together on Sat night to meet friends for a fair number of drinks and it was just as good for that too..
  8. Took Mrs Rob and Rob Jr to The Herne yesterday and it was - by some margin - the best pub lunch / environment I've been too for ages! I've banged on about it here, but, suffice to say, unless you're some sort of professional curmugeon, or you don't have kids (and if you don't - why go there anyway? There's hundreds of places for you to enjoy locally), I can't recommend it highly enough. Fantastic food, great service, great atmos, thoroughly enjoyable and very reasonably priced. Literally, hurray for The Herne.
  9. Perhaps the Castle? I used to go there a lot, but it got a bit much even for me (and I like "much").
  10. I got a stack of great religious LP tat from the St John's Ambulance church hall in Norwood the other week..
  11. 3 Try the lobster thermidor surprise at Eric and Margaret's place
  12. no need to elaborate - you do all the work yourself! It's fantastic, really! I expect to see the EDlouisa blog referenced in mediaguardian any day now. x
  13. Erm, it seems fairly obvious to me that "Louisa" is a construct designed to rattle the cages of certain people on this board And she does it very well! I wouldn't let "her" worry you too much...
  14. Louisa: William Rose - ie Dave the Butcher - was in Vauxhall, not Bermondsey, for years before moving to ED. He knocked out just as much ORGANIC material (and game and pies and eggs and whatever) then as he does now.
  15. Well, actually, I love pie and mash and have eaten in Manze's, Bert's and Armant's on many, many occasions!
  16. Agreed on G&B. I actually went back in a bought a load of (extremly nice) prosecco on Saturday. And they were all really, really friendly.
  17. You know what, the more I think about it, the more convinced I am I'll pass! "Have we got any pea fritters in the deep freeze Margaret? Only we've got a coach load coming up from Steeple Bumstead on their way to Mama Mia..."
  18. They should invite us in - Green and Black-style. Though I'd want it professionally cleaned first.
  19. I would rather eat my dinner off the grimy concrete in Le Moulin's front yard than go in Caffe Nero or GBK, tbh.
  20. Is it "snobby" to expect to be able to read the menu? And if you don't care about the grim state of the outside, why should I trust you to care about what goes on inside. Still, if they can make a living banging out early-bird trout and almond specials to the silver-surfers up from Penge, then good luck to them!
  21. I've lived a two minute walk from Le Moulin for about seven years In that time I've been - at least once - to probably every restaurant within a two mile radius (including Mr Lui's Peking Cuisine, but not including Kebab & Wine, though I've been sorely tempted). But every time I walk past Le Moulin I see the peeling paint and ignored frontage and rotten, rain-soaked, condensation ruined menu board and wonder why the owners don't pull their collective finger out and make the idea of actually walking in one night a little less unnappealing. Anyone actually ever eaten there?
  22. Mrs Rob, Rob Jr and I go to Hoa Viet once a week - it is (easily) among our most favorite places to eat in London as the food is just fantastic every single time we visit. If you can make a spicy beef pho as good as theirs (and Pho can't, sadly) then we'll see you there...
  23. oh, used to go to Corner a lot a few years ago, but then it changed hands (seemingly) and all went a bit dull. Last time we went there it was cafe chairs and tables squeaking on the floor and zilch atmos...
  24. Chardon, Palmerston, Franklins, Sema Thai - we're really spoiled aren't we? All four of those would provide a very pleasant night out.
