  1. This "Sharp" character's good. How did you dream him up? Four separate postings about some third-rate keg-lager 'n'vindaloo shack situated somewhere called "West Dulwich" in one day? Crazy...
  2. Maybe they were just upset at the lack of decent organic produce or the - at best - extremely basic range of wines in said Costcutter?
  3. I work in Islington and live in East Dulwich. Does this help?
  4. We need: a proper, wood-fired pizza place a record shop a big old pub that's still quite pub-like a vietnamese place an M&S Food Hall
  5. I know the place - that's such a dead space there, I actually wish them luck!
  6. Amazing Grace! What a shop that is... Thanks C ED
  7. been on holiday... Opposite The Plough? That's near me - I must investigate. But I can't imagine wanting to give my money to a chain when I could give it to Surma, T Nights or Curry Cabin.
  8. Mrs Rob and I were surprised to receive a flyer announcing the new BB shortly to arrive in ED. Surely the one street in (south) London that doesn't need another (good) curry house is Lordship Lane? Have these people ever been to ED? What are there, 6 or 7 indian restaurants from Mirash to Coriander?
  9. I think it's a case of getting used to a diff way of thinking about pubs. The Montp offers table service - and why shouldn't someone be tipped for offering such? - but you don't have to use it. All I can say is that everyone there was lovely, they seved up great food, walloped a load of free drinks on top of the ones we'd pre-bought and ceremonially wheeled out the (Konditor & Cook) cake and (Pesh) flowers I'd had delivered earlier. Also, the rest of the pub was full of very happy looking people enjoying delicious looking food. What's not to like?
  10. Mrs Rob had her birthday "do" there last night. It was a total triumph. Natasha and the people there are fantastically helpful and made the whole thing go with a significant, well-oiled bang. Much recommended, even if it is outside of God's Own Postcode.
  11. The Wishing Well is a fantastic pub - good thia food too. The Prince Albert is a stabber's paradise - avoid...
  12. *waits for Louisa to suggest it's actually one of the last truly working-class, pensioner friendly social places left in an otherwise horribly over-gentrified ED*
  13. I walked past it last night (on my way to Franklins - I never, ever tire of Franklins) and there was much activity. It looks really good!
  14. I've lived here since early 2001 and I think it's much better for the ponciness, whatever form it may appear in. Great bars, great restaurants, good food, lovely park, lovely neighbours (of the young AND old variety) - what's not to like?

    The Plough Pub

What a beautiful looking building it was. What a shame it's been so badly looked after...

    The Plough Pub

The pain of a SE24 postcode when just over the road it's SE21 must be hard to bear...

    Le Moulin

Louisa, as I think has been noted before, is not a real person, but a forum construct designed to wind-up "incomers" (ho-hum, how hilarious) and it's something "she" (actually a 31 year old banker called Roland who's recently moved here from Clapham) does very well. The fact that people still take any notice amazes me. Only a construct could possibly get any enjoyment from banging on and on and on and on about how ED was so much better when it was populated by greasy-haired, varicose-pinned, damp-cardy-wearing, zip-up-bootie-sporting, penury-struck pensioners eating cold gravel 'round a one bar fire and fretting about keeping a decent supply of newspaper in the outside "lavvy".

    Le Moulin

Why doesn't everyone have a lovely warm glass of Le Piat Dor and one of Eric and Maggie's grebe and pamplemousse dauphinoise and make friends?

  20. Excellent - just what we need! More frocks and cushions!
  21. I have a look in every time we're in Hoa Viet (ie, once a week) and nothing - NOTHING - is ever happening... Come on people!
  22. I've heard Eric and Margaret serve a mean Boiled Owl Gratin up at Le Moulin
  23. I do it everyday too. Either from Tulse Hill (quick nip in the car) or Loughborough Jct (equally quick nip in the car) - 30 mins tops....
