Well I can tell you that Golf del Sur can be v nice and is v handy for airport. However you need to check exactly where within the complex you are. It is really big and some areas are badly affected by the flight path, although we were lucky. I will look for details of our agent and our bungalow number if you are interested as it was lovely, accidentally!

Completely agree with Tired. That is my experience and that of friends too.

The price of toddler classes in Dulwich
dulwichgirl2 replied to susie22's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Bea baby bop - five pounds now I think. The best music class we went to. Crystal palace one o clock club - I think five pounds now as well and it is all morning. Swimming Gymnastics Soft play Actually the more I think about it, the more I realise I never paid ?8 for a class! So there are plenty, do not fear. -
Jasmina, the first 90 (?) pounds per week rent is tax free if you rent out a room, in case you did not know this. Be careful of renting out one place and living in another. You will have to pay tax on the rental income (mortgage costs deductible Of course) but I am not sure if your rental costs in the second place are also deductible. Think also of agent fees, both houses, moving fees and hassle. Good luck.

Does it really matter if you only have 1 child?!
dulwichgirl2 replied to SBot's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Smiler, Please don't discourage the OP or anyone else by posting incorrect statements. There are, as I said, some simple remedies for some clotting and immune issues. There are also some more complex ones (not available on the nhs owing to not having passed the testing criteria). I have various friends who have had mcs, had blood test diagnosis, had a simple remedy and then conceived ASAP thereafter. There are many generalisations in your post. Anyone trying to conceive, after a while, please ask the GP for a referral. While waiting, get basic clotting profiles and day 3 LH, Fsh oestrogen tests. Also, do a progesterone test for 7 days post ovulation. Try to get Anti mullerian hormone (day 3, unlikely on nhs). These will give you an idea of the basic position before seeing the consultant. -
Does it really matter if you only have 1 child?!
dulwichgirl2 replied to SBot's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Sbot, congrats on your daughter. An u/s will check inside the uterus and can pick up eg fibroids and maybe scar tissue as well. You could additionally buy cheap luteinising hormone sticks (lh) which will give you a guide to ovulation times. You could also have some tests done by the Gp but he or she will only do these if you are over a certain age and have been trying for x months. (timings vary.) All, for anyone suffering the pain of a mc, be aware that even the nhs will test for recurrent ones. (I think at 3 and maye fewer if the woman is young.) Recurrent mc can be linked to the immune system being too active or to clotting and there are some simple remedies for each of these plus some highly complex ones only available privately. But be aware that the NHS will investigate further if you would like. No-one should suffer this heartache when things can be fixed. X -
Great Djkillaqueen! Sounds like you are still on a high from it! Channel four is one thing but is it true that NBC isn't covering it at all? Disgraceful. Obama of all people should be ashamed of his country.

You will find fewer of the traditional names appearing on the list. Eg Mary, Susan, Elizabeth, Catharine, Victoria, Alexandra etc. Then there is the Victorian/flowery category (Isabella, lily, Evie, Lola, Florence, loveday etc.) and then there is the third category. I'd go traditional if I were you, to avoid duplication or pigeonholing in a certain year or social grouping.

Is the hypothetical burglar threatening my children or my husband or "just" property?

Interesting last few posts. Maybe worthwhile a new thread asking these questions specifically. The reason I say that is that there must be many people who have gone through the same logic. We certainly did. We have dismissed ED as a place to put more money into as it is ridiculously dear per s foot, its transport links are not very good for the place in Western Europe where most wealth is created (city and cw) and there are so few houses on the market that they command tremendous premia, simply for being "for sale". So we started to look at the ELL on the basis that there is more upside (lower starting prices we know and higher ending ones we think). We worked our way down it. New cross - on the up, houses often small, some v nice new developments on Telegraph hill Brockley - seems to split into Hilly Fields park area and "the rest of it". HFP - big gap in size between gorgeous huge impressive flats and the big houses with some in between. The "rest of it" has a lot of four bed, ED style terraces. Per sq foot all of it is still very cheap. Lots of new businesses opening. Leisure centre coming. Local blog but not very chatty. Girls school. HOP - north side of station not as nice as south. Prices lower to reflect this. High street has potential bu we waited 45 mins for some coffee and my husband could not take that. I liked it though. No Really big houses but nice Edwardian terraces. Cheaper than ED and many of the houses are bigger. Forest hill - loved some of the bigger non terraced houses but either cld not afford or decided the re doing and subsequent upkeep would kill us. Also thought the roads system weird and not sure where the centre is or where the development is happening. New leisure centre coming. Sydenham - loved again the big non terraced houses, started to feel a bit suburban. Girls school but not sure where boys go. I guess it depends what you are looking for.... Space and garden are important to us but friends have a cottage in Dorset so they don't mind being less "free" during the week.

PGC, as with all musclo skeletal issues, it is invariably a matter of trial and error as to whether rest is better. Many people with tendonitis find it seizes up badly if they rest it. It is all vey unfair. There is an operation which can be very successful - a relative had it for both the elbow and shoulder I seem to think - and was pain free from about a week post op. I think the key was cutting tendons and it sounded quite nasty but worked v well. It can be agony absolute agony and the term tennis elbow really doesn't reflect how bad it can get so I do feel for sufferers.

Seriously, go traditional ie counter trend. You can be very sure there will be plenty of "whatevers" at school, to your surprise, on day 1 if you choose something outlandish. Everyone is doing it. If you opt for a traditional name, you will find no other child has it in this vicinity and it is so much more pleasant than being called "whatever" aged 20. Otoh, I'm fundamentally old fashioned!

Yes all true but isn't it great that the Paralympics are getting the profile of the "warm up ones" as the slogan goes. I am thrilled it is not just seen as an "also event after the real thing" - the tenacity and dedication of these overwhelming athletes are being shown to a massive enthusiastic and thrilled audience. If I were an employer, I would be desperate to employ them - they are demonstrating all the qualities any sensible employer would love to use ina team. I can see several of the ladies especially getting good sponsorship deals and becoming very high profile in their own right. Wonderful result!

I like plain names for boys and flowery ones for girls viz Alexander, Richard, John, Edward, Henry, William, Archibald, James, David. Really dislike faddish names as they date very fast and pigeonhole the child. How about Richard if you like the Rs?

Actually you have some valuable information, namely how much is too much. Why not ask the next agent what he or she has actually sold at x price recently? That will show you how active they reall are and the prices they are achieving.

Sorry, yes, it is a loo and whb currently. Red devil, yes, we aren't totally behind the curve and had worked out the water and electrical issue plus the need for a suitably qualified individual. Now, I am abit demoralised. It seemed like an easy task at first. Now, mountains of paperwork at best.

The Tony Nicklinson case - where now?
dulwichgirl2 replied to silverfox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Agree with Loz bu do not see the checks and balances working well enough unfortunately. What would they be, anyway? The infirm person prevailed upon by others will sign something to the effect he is acting without external influence. -
Quite right. Ridiculous that your property and possessions could be taken over and that you would then face a long and expensive fight to evict those perpetrating the (new) crime.
-
Salsaboy, yes it would be ina hidden cupboard for aesthetic reasons at least. Does it really have to be for some other reason too? Thank you.
-
Oh no. We hadn't thought of that. It is just a cloakroom - ie loo and whb- if that makes any difference?

Swimming lessons for a 2.5 year old?
dulwichgirl2 replied to Inkmaiden's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Try dropping in and asking for Janet at ED? She runs swimming lessons for the little ones and I think actually takes some. Once you get in for classes, you progress to the next class I think so maybe it is worth one queue?! Good luck. -
Advice please: finding a babysitter you trust
dulwichgirl2 replied to claire101's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Building the trust is the hard bit I know I know... How old is your son? Nursery contacts are a good idea... The only other thing would be to get someone you see as a possible (someone else's nanny for example) and effectively interview her by getting her to look after the ch while you are there doing some work. You could just carefully observe what is going on. Start by going out for dinner round the corner, once the ch are in bed, and work up to other events leaving before bedtime. I wldnt have an agency or someone from an advert personally, even with the above process. I know - it is a bit of a gulp factor...
