Unique East Dulwich postcards now available to buy
Administrator replied to Mark's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If you see your Private Messages I have sent you a message referring to your previous messages and why they were removed. Irrelevant chatting between users on a thread is not allowed*, therefore your posts were removed and you were told why. We tell every user why we remove their posts where possible and it can be very time consuming. Just because you were talking to Mark does not make you exempt from this rule. Let no more be said about this issue here. *I however am an exception -

116 Lordship Lane is to become...
Administrator replied to MadWorld74's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
>This must remain a space for constructive discussion, a certain amount of freedom of speech (despite being monitored) and anonymity. We do not encourage people to use their anonymity as an excuse to hide behind their comments. People must take responsibility for what they say. OK I don't want this to take this thread off topic so back to the new gym on Lordship Lane... -

Administrator replied to TillieTrotter's topic in The Lounge
Please, if it's not East Dulwich specific, post your messages in the Lounge -
Iceland/M&S rumour is not true

We are still working on these problems and will be doing some maintenance tonight. It seems the database 'falls over' at a lower level of use than expected and we will be having stern words with it tonight. Apologies again for any problems you have been experiencing today (Tuesday), hopefully it will be resolved soon.

10,000 Posting - Who in East Dulwich will it be??
Administrator replied to Mogs's topic in The Lounge
Moved to the lounge as although it's about the "General ED issues / gossip" thread it's no longer about ED issues and/or gossip -
Going to have to move this to the Lounge as it's no longer "General ED issues / gossip" carry on

leaving the flat this morning I noticed that the hedge out the front had blackfly on it which are stunting the grown of the leaves. How do I get rid of the pesky blighters?

I'm touched -
This thread is very close to being lounged but because the original poster has been involved in the WiFi / 'signals from the cosmos' talk it hasn't.

Although it is a courageous thing to to do, admitting to driving a yellow/gold Punto does not entitle you to chat to other users within threads. Please try and avoid it.

Purposefully bringing in a Nazi element will not force Godwin's law. People are reminded that this is a public forum and people are liable any legal actions that occur due to their posts. Saying "they wish to treat their customers with such contempt" implies that they have treated their customers with "the feeling or attitude of regarding someone or something as inferior, base, or worthless". As the original poster was annoyed by a loud staff meeting on a nearby table and not actually treated with contempt I would ask them to re-edit their post. This is a legal requirement. Whilst both criticism and praise are encouraged please do be careful. Yes this forum would be really boring if everything posted was nice and rosy all the time but people's livelihood can be damaged by a "getting something off your chest" post and therefore legal action would be taken against the message poster and the forum. The East Dulwich Forum errs on the side of caution (and not on the side of the traders as we are frequently accused of) which is why we have to tread carefully in these situations.

Green and blue, water, and the law
Administrator replied to iamyamyam's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Green & Blue emailed the forum directly and I am posting it exactly here: **************************** Dear Forum Can't post for some reason, but it is the Green and Blue gang here. Someone has very astutely ascertained that we would be here sooner or later, defending our water position and here it is. I have no idea of why someone was refused tap water last night - it is not and never has been our policy. There may have been some confusion as we charge for filtered water - a very environmentally friendly option. Instead of trucking water in plastic bottles all over the place, we have installed an very sophisticated filtration system right here. The filters are changed once a month and while the maintenance of this does cost money, it means we can charge a lot less for the bottles and glasses. It also tastes like mineral and not tap water. If things are really busy, we have even been known to give people filtered water when they ask for tap, but in the interests of not going out of business any time soon, that does not happen all the time. We hope to soon offer a 'refill' system - you can bring a bottle in and we will fill it with our filtered water for a minimal charge. Fresher and environmentally friendlier all round. hope that helps and apologies to the lady at the heart of the storm, but we are more than happy to serve tap water by the gallon if that is what our customers want! very best wishes the Green and Blue gang **************************** -
For those following and contributing to this thread I apologise for the accidental deletion of some (about 8) of the posts. The Thread had moved to discussion saying that "shopkeepers were the same group of people who incidentally were instrumental in electing Hitler to Chancellor" thus breaking Godwin's law*. Godwin's law states that once such an extremist comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically "lost" the original debate in progress. As the Administrator I tried to split this thread but buggered it up and apologise. Please, if someone asks "Do any of the food shops on LL stay open after 5.30 ? " try not to make the discussion break Godwin's law and mention the Nazi's. Now, back to food shops opening late on Lordship lane... *Thanks to Mockney Piers for originally pointing this out and Keef in this instance

Re: After Work Shopping

And therefore this part of the thread gets Lounged (I'm going to try and split it just before the minimum wage debate came in so the original question "Do any of the food shops on LL stay open after 5.30 ?" and some answers stay here) -

This is an example of a thread that is coming close to being Lounged which is unfair the original poster. The original post was "What East Dulwich needs?", the original poster has not commented and taken their own thread off topic so please, perhaps a little respect to their post and original question. I don't like doing this but I get complaints that threads get taken off topic really quickly.

Personal attacks on people will not be tolerated - we are having a clean up and some comments / threads are being removed, not many, only a couple that have been brought to our attention. If you see something that is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, threatening or illegal please tell us immediately and we will deal with it. This forum was created to be a fun place and a useful tool for the East Dulwich community and we sincerely apologise for any offence that it may have caused to any individuals. If you see something posted that is offensive (or could be offensive to others), please let me know so I can deal with it as as soon as possible. Please don't assume that someone else will do it, your help is greatly appreciated in this as it will help the forum to thrive and continue. Just a regular reminder for people of some of the preferred ways of the forum: - Of course the obvious one is please try and keep on topic, i.e. try and consider the thread's title when replying. - Please, no irrelevant chatting between users within a thread, of course it's fine to chat but taking over a thread with inappropriate chat is frowned upon. - Please post in the relevant section (there have been quite a few 'wanteds' going in the general ED Gossip section recently), I will move threads as I deem necessary. - If starting a thread please make the title relevent e.g. don't use the title "boxes" when "where can I get cardboard boxes?" would be better. - Please remember that not everyone has used the forum since day one, so sometimes new people will ask a question that's been asked before. If possible give them a link to the thread where it's been discussed before. (How to create a link) - Please do not direct personal attacks at people. It can put you, me and this forum in an awkward legal situation and it's not very nice. This site gets quite a few visitors other than those who post on it i.e. there's lots of people who just like to watch. There were 1,453 visitors on Monday, and 24,630 page views on Tuesday and it's hard work keeping a bit of order. At the moment there are in excess of 400 posts a day and that's a lot to keep an eye on so any help with the housekeeping is greatly appreciated. I hope that wasn't too heavy going, thanks for listening and most of all thank you for using the forum regards
