There are indeed 4-track apps on phones which do the job just fine if all you're really looking for is a musical notepad to put some ideas down.. but the sound quality is pretty dire - by any standards - depends on what you need. The general rule of thumb.. If you are a genius then a mobile phone and an acoustic guitar will make you rich and famous, with beautiful women hurling themselves under the wheels of your Limo in the vain hope that you will spare them a few words and hold their hand until the ambulance arrives. If, however, you are a jobbing musical schmuck like the rest of us, a million pounds of high-quality recording gear installed in an acoustically-treated soundproofed barn in Sussex will still only enable you to write humdrum drivel.. as you repeatedly excuse your offerings on account of 'not having the right microphone'.

Good thread here on this, Keef. No votes for the Boss (indeed, 'sucks' is mentioned) - but plenty for the Zoom H2/4 - I've used neither, I should say. However.. If you or TheMissus already own a reasonable laptop.. Your 4-track machine is essentially a small computer with a small screen, limited key functionality, non-upgradeable software - and whatever's leftover (once all that has been paid-for) to go on the Analogue/Digital conversion chip.. which dictates how good everything will sound. And whatever's left-over won't be much. If you already own a laptop, which is essentially a better computer, with a more usefully-size screen, lots of keys and innovative and upgradeable software options - you can blow your budget on a soundcard which gives you really good sound.

Isn't person A posting a detailed private email from person B (who they are no longer in a relationship with) - onto a public forum, on the eve of Valentines Day.. also.. a bit odd? Fun to read, of course. But for some reason I can't help thinking more about what is says about you for posting it than I am about him for writing it.

Well of course.. they sure do look great - from the inside. It's only when all the other houses - the backs of which you can see from your house - get their own lovely black portakabins attached - it's only then that you realise what an eyesore yours has been all along. I can't wait to do mine! I'm gonna make sure it looks really, really horrible.

I remember one particular school assembly, where the member of staff 'on' for that week - (committed caring Christian type, beard, round spectacles) carried out a series of mild stunts aimed at 'making you think about the third world'. The clothes were washed using only half a cup of water. The daily allowance of grain was measured. Empathy, understanding. Makes you think etc. What was that.. ? Twenty years ago? I wonder if, in the fullness of time, the West's role in developing the developing world will be mostly seem in terms of empathy, sympathy.. and handing-out sacks of grain, whilst China was in there actually building things and making things happen.

Olives from Chislehurst.. pancetta from Orpington.. and (lest we forget) those divine tomatoes which grow only on the gentle south-facing slopes of Bromley.

What can I say? She's an eccentric millionaire.

Does Celine Dion deserve to be a millionaire? No. But there it is. It's not her fault. It's not like she buys her own records.

I guess the pub (or bar) is weighing-up the financial benefits of (eg) fourteen people who are definitely looking for somewhere to booze all night - against the possibility of someone else maybe dropping-in for one or two. The former being the ones who (these days) keep the pubs open.. unfortunately / fortunately (depending on which way you look at it)

looking for perfect wedding photography slideshow music
*Bob* replied to Philby's topic in The Lounge
Wouldn't it be better to ask your clients to choose a song that means something to them? After all, with tastes in music being entirely subjective, one persons great example is liable to make other people.. nauseous.. -
If you listen carefully you can still hear it thrashing about in the back of his van.. apparently. Fish is expensive in the first place, and Moxons is a bit more on top. But their fish is rockin'.
-
Two things to avoid buying from the back of a van in London: 1. top quality fish 2. top quality loudspeakers

Off the back of your show of strength, ????, I was just about to leave - and better my life. Now you've gone and ruined it. Thanks.

How can we improve our community

Come on Sean - think about it. Our community would definitely be improved by establishing a local arena for ritual public humiliation. That kind of stuff really builds bridges. -

That's a great idea! Think back to those "crime-free" golden days in "Medieval" england when the stocks were still in use and you got hanged for stealing a "chicken". We could have those days back again. That'll learn 'em. -
I'm not averse to a bit of BBC-bashing myself, but a world without the BBC would be freaky and frightening. Seeing that most people - given the choice - would lazily accept a crap free alternative in place of a superior product which they had to motivate themselves to pay for (see 'The Metro' etc); the BBC forces a huge swathe of the population to absorb comparatively quality information (eg current affairs) instead of Goldenballs. That alone is worth a puny hundred and fifty quid a year - especially when you consider how a substantial proportion of the rest of your substantial taxes get flushed. The people who beat their chest about having to pay the TV licence are usually the ones we need to have it there for. And QI isn't made by the BBC.
