  1. If only things such as a false premise which lead to an illegal war which lead to carnage on a giant scale actually meant something to the majority of the electorate when it actually matter.. ie at elections. If only..

He'll be knee-deep in sticky green excrement by then, surely?

I love to see him on Loose Women, all gangly and blushing as the gaggle of screeching crones clustered around him, trying to prise the racket from his clammy hands.

No, it's because he has yet to demonstrate anything roughly approaching a personality or sense of humour.. all the usual things that make human beings warm to other human beings. And he's Scotch. Rooney has a head shaped like potato and a face to match, so he's already more interesting, right of the bat. Or ball.

Just think.. I can set it up in the kitchen and pretend to be Tom Cruise in Minority Report - only I'll be ordering seeds, as opposed to working in a crack PreCrime department sometime in the future.

Yes, I get that. I have a proper computer, which I use as a proper computer, and a phone, which I use as a phone. Specifically, I (we) would use if for internerd, (seemingly) endless photo and HD vid sorting, and writing (which I do but would rather sit somewhere else in the house than in front of music gear) and (of course) watching some online telly content 'wherever'. Just the regular stuff that we do on a laptop, if we had one that worked.. only we don't. I did try with a Netbook. I tried. But it was rubbish. And it still cost ?300.

Miserable Murray has already pulled off a gargantuan feat - he's made Tiger Tim seem interesting. It's like when Iain Duncan Smith followed William Hague.

I know! Just another few weeks of iBegging and I can afford that iPad.

No.. he does actually look a bit like a younger version of Jah. The crossed eyes is incidental. I have no idea if Jah is cross-eyed or not. His eyes were shielded by some very trendy spectacles at the time.

I'll admit I've only seen you three times, Jah (coming out of a pub on all three occasions).. but doesn't that guy in the video look more than a little bit like a younger version of you?

I think that's where I'm at, price-wise. I think I'd happily pay ?350 for an iPad, enjoy the stuff it will undoubtedly do really well, and live without the other stuff which I can undoubtedly live without. I don't own an iPhone and I need a new laptop. I'm good to go. But it'll be well-over ?500. And more like ?600. Which is a bit mental. And I'd never use it in public, because I'd look like a knob - at least for a couple of years until Apple has shifted 50 million of them, the other manufacturers have played copycat.. and everyone looks like a knob.

    Apple's iPad

Well of course. But then you could have a ?300/year package. And get an iPad? Or go skiing?

Good old Mash. Indeed, I'm sure there are a whole heap of people who are happy to spend nearly ?1000 on, eg, a megapowered Mac Pro and then use it exclusively for email and watching a DVD in bed.. but I'm not one of them.

But in these situations, when you're lounging around on soft furnishings, won't you have to prop it up in some way for a decent viewing angle? Using eg the iLegsCrossed, or the iLapCushion, or even the iPileOfBooks?

    Apple's iPad

As the shouts about sanitary towels/how much? subside.. any thoughts, Apple-types? At first I assumed I'd put it in the 'no thanks' bag along with the iPhone, but then I wasn't so sure. With an nine year-old iBook taking its last breath, I've tried a netbook (one of the recommended eee affairs) and the description 'crap laptop' was truly deserved - and back it went. The iPad might not 'do' much, but what's the point in doing more (a la netbook) if it does everything badly, to the point that you just want to throw it against a wall and urinate on it? Pricing point will be the killer for me, I think. An equivalent $-? translation of ?350 would be a surefire winner, but the addition of vat, plus extra for - well, for no reason at all but hey, that's Apple - and then optional extras which aren't optional because you need them (keyboard dock, useful memory size, SD reader) will surely push the price up to around ?600. With an actual Macbook following on at just over ?800 (and Pro model at ?900), that puts it in an odd place on the pricing shelf, surely?

Just to dot a few i's and cross a few t's: Did you fib about the Ukulele on your CV, or could you actually play it? Could you already play the piano, or did you learn to play it in the three years during which you stated on your CV that you played the ukulele? Are you suggesting that playing the piano (or at least saying you can) will help you get a job, whereas the ukulele will do the opposite? Are you saying you love playing the piano and playing with your children, or or you saying that both you and your children love playing the piano?
