  1. 'flamboyant pubs'?! I expect 'the locals' said (and still say) pretty much the same things about Brick Lane, Golders Green.. but they're also the bits that go into making a big city what it is. Just for clarification (for the kids) the drug(s) you speak of are GHB (not GBH) and GBL.
  2. Oxbridge candidates in the making.
  3. I know you enjoy a bit of sparring, Alan - but (If you'll recall our discussions) I think we both know you're struggling on this one.
  4. The thing is, Alan, I had no interest in 'dominating the city, the media and politics' - being happy seemed more important. But then each to their own.
  5. Oooooh yes.. how right you are. If only I could have gone to a 'better' University, I wouldn't be in the terrible pickle I am now.
  6. Alan Dale Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Nice one *Bob*, sailed through the interview, got > your offer, 4 As then off to... > > Sheffield. Whoops. As explained, I had no interest in Oxford or Cambridge as I went for a scout and it seemed dull as dishwater. I also checked who'd applied from my school which confirmed what I already knew. And I might have had to actually work hard there.. and I'm a terrible slacker, as you know. The rest of your post is spot-on though.
  7. Sigh.. I don't want to rub your nose in it, Alan. so I think I'll withdraw gracefully. Back to the all-important thread..
  8. Lorship Lane.. "a place where you need to be able to handle yourself" HA HA I'm sorry if your A levels didn't work out as well as you wanted, Alan - but you only have yourself to blame.
  9. Peckhamgatecrasher There shouldn't be a gap between 'semi' and 'colon'
  10. Sean.. at least let Alan finish telling us how well 'ee can 'aandle 'imself (yawn)
  11. The students in Oxford are very well protected.. more so than in other towns. Black eyes and scarring do not look good in a prospectus which is hoping to attract 'la creme de la creme'.
  12. I rejected Oxford/Cambridge because, having been there for a look-see, I decided there was more fun to be had at a family funeral.
  13. Alan Dale Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sheffield is home to the 22nd and 87th best > universities in the country. No wonder so many > forumites studied there. No-one picks a University destination based on the results its students attain. Didn't anyone tell you that?

  15. No, not the Poly - the other one.
  16. I've been quoted! I'm so proud.. I'm welling-up! The 'townie' thing always amused me as a student (living in Sheffield). "Why do the Townies hate us so?", wailed the bespectacled undergrad with a black eye? Well, perhaps not calling them 'townies' would be a start. You're the guest here, you idiot. It's their home.

  18. I take the view that anyone who moved to ED anytime after I did is ruining the area. A view I share with most other forum users, it seems.
  19. The Metro.. "yesterday's news - today"

  21. Hughes has already declared himself out, has he not? He could have made it - had he not accidentally tripped and fallen open-mouthed onto a penis. Surely Mark Oaten, Ron Davies and Portillo could have warned him to watch his step around that tricky bit of pavement?
  22. I like the new 'Dragon' - a good replacement in the 'good cop' seat for Richard F. Theo and Peter still as punchable as ever.
  23. Well, no-one here actually has to tell the truth about anything anyway. But (on the whole) those that don't either get sprung sooner or later, or just get bored after the novelty of causing a bit of a stir wears-off. If you're a child and you register as an adult, then you should expect your posts to be treated as adult posts - so I suppose that decision is down to you. If you're an adult who registers as a child, you're either a wind-up merchant (see above) or the kind of person your Mother warns you against talking to (disabling PMs should eliminate any threat - perceived or otherwise - on this score) I think it would be an interesting addition to the forum. Children are constantly 'spoken for' here.. it would be nice to here what they think with regards to the stuff which concerns them - for a change.
