  1. I'm struggling to remember (m)any years when the top-billed haven't copped a load of flak. Also struggling to remember (m)any years where the fields weren't full with an appreciative crowd. So job done again. Quite enjoyed Metallica myself - total newbie (just about knew one song).

  3. Who do you think would make a good headliner?

  5. I heard their new place is so awash with spare cash, they started using it for insulation.
  6. There's another strange bit of psychology to the self employment / tax thing - for me, anyway. If you do a PAYE job, you do 'the job' and get 'your salary' - a years work for your years pay and probably don't think too much about it. If you're self-employed, however - and do jobs one by one, you reach the point where the jobs you do later in the year suddenly 'pay' (once you take the tax into consideration) not that much more than half as much as the ones you did at the start did - which - for me - leads to motivation issues. So I suppose I'm both greedy and lazy - and both balance the other one out.
  7. I wish I felt better about it. I've got nothing to complain about. I should feel satisfied with my (relatively) comfortable lot and be at peace with the taxation system. Unfortunately it's a knife in my very heart, twice a year. I should try yoga or something.

  9. When you're on a low (/no!) income - which I was for a fairly long spell - it's easy to not be annoyed about tax, because - let's face it - you don't really pay much of it. It's easy imagine you'll be all groovy about paying more when you've got it, no worries, fair's fair. Red hot poker. Rectum.
  10. Obviously I understand the reasons & benefits.. I'm not that mad. I just can't lay claim to the 'with a glad and willing heart' stuff. Psychologically, it's probably a little easier on PAYE.
  11. I wonder how many people do/would change their opinions on tax when/if they found themselves moving up into the higher bands? Humans are inherently selfish, after all. Look at children: they're born selfish - parents have to try and knock it out of them. I pay what I owe of course, but unfortunately I confess I can't manage it with a happy clappy huggy pink fuzzy feeling. It's like a red-hot poker up the rectum.. every time. There, I've said it. I'm a bad person.

  13. I think everyone can agree that the World Cup has come alive since this guy bit someone. Would it not therefore make sense to bring biting in generally - as an enhancement to the game itself?
  14. Where's the suitcase?
  15. Phew! Glad that's sorted. Can we move onto the next pressing issue: Neymar's underpants?
  16. not that one
  17. ?99 family tent. Get some friends together and go to one of the campsites with a groovier, slightly feral feel where the kids can do what they like - and you can have a fire and a schmoke. Bosh.
  18. These Precious Things can be bought locally from Just William. It's all quite sweet really. Makes a pleasant change from demands for iPhone apps.
  19. Are you really going to pursue this, Loz? Just to win a point at the sixth form debate on sexual equality? Really?
  20. It's like the Clarkson / Morgan incident. Technically assault, but, well..
  21. Cross posted with DC and DaveR
  22. They did. But the point remains. For many - whether they deserved to get the full weight of the law thrown at them hinged upon whether there was sympathy for the victim (or mostly one victim in particular in this case) - not on a point of law or 'right' and 'wrong'. If the victims had just been Max Clifford, Heather Mills and George Galloway a ?100m trial would not have been on the cards. Great to see some unlikeable people squirm in court, but there's a slightly grotty level of schadenfreude, hypocrisy and double standards in play which clearly hasn't occurred to Mr & Mrs Bloke in Street - who've happily spent the last ten years tittering over a picture of Sienna Miller's tits as photographed through a long lens.
  23. So many of the general public have a perverse sense of right and wrong. One day cackling over Gazza having fallen off the wagon again; the next day 'outraged' at the source of the information. Does the addict not share some responsibility - along with the dealer?
  24. Phonehacking blew up because of the Dowler case, full stop. Would the majority of the public have been up in arms about listening to to the intimate affairs of Boris Johnson, Heather Mills, Prezza, Gazza or The Royals? Would they bollocks! Half the population pay to lap that shit up every day!
