I won't pretend I'm not a little hurt by that PGC, but they say the truth does that sometimes. That Flo was a handsome woman though but. -

Calling out 'Dark' and 'Light' to each other? 'Needless to say this upset Bono'? Why would it? A seasoned rocker who has endured far worse abuse than that I would think. Would it be taken seriously? 'El Diablo' he referred to the chap as? Surely he was having a Turkish? Edited because I finaly got the joke. Considered deleting the whole thing but then realised that I don't want to attempt to shove my head up my own arse that much. Also looking at it, my quite prim response makes me chuckle. In fact I'm having a Turkish as I type.

And you can stop starting your ruddy cheek, Brendan. I KNOW YOUR MAM! She shall hear of this. You know perfectly well that Mott The Hoople were formed out of the group Silence and named and produced by Guy Stevens in 1969. So less of your lip young feller-me-lad. You're getting one of my looks as we speak. Now, be told. -

Think Dolly Earneshaw, the companion of Viz's Mrs Brady for th' accent. Not that she's any sort of accent to speak of, what with her being a comic strip character and all and no more more real than that Johnny Vegas or Robert Kilroy-Silk. Where was I? I'm all of a doo-dah, but I know this much, kids today, they don't know they're bloody born. They don't. -

Utterly spot on Charlies, though not how I recall him from the sixties Daily Mirror that used to be just below The Larks strip on the same page as The Old Codgers, but that will do for me. Brendan, it is to laugh. This is Basil Fotherington-Thomas the university years. Couldn't be further from me if he was as far as a very far planet. One that's not even been discovered yet. Tcah. And tcah again. -

Nothing really, I'd just like to be Garth. He was a huge muscled dude who spent a lot of his time with no shirt on, and he got lots of girls. And he had great hair. There was a professor type who was always around and who I reckon was quite controlling of Garth. Truth be told I reckon Garth wasn't perhaps the smartest of fellows but chicks dug him and he seemed to do quite well for himself. Thinking about it, apart from the hair, Vin Diesel might have read and acted upon the strip. Would he have had access to the Daily Mirror, do you suppose? -
Are they up his bum? In a different time zone my nine year old self and his friends are pappering themselves with mirth.

Look, where did you last not see them? Retrace your steps back, falling over everything on your way. With a vile curse, give up and throw yourself onto the sofa. Hear a sharp crack, check under the cushion and find your binns broken in half. This Saturday go and see the very very clean bloke in Paine & Hunter. He'll sort you out.

I'd say in this instance it's merely checking the song that that you probably have pinballing round your brain at the moment, but can't put a name to. The 'It's on the tip of my tongue, honest' rule can be applied.

Not in the least Moos, Kirsty had the good sense to sing on the finest Christmas record ever made, I refer of course to Fairy Tale Of New York. A shrewd move on her part, because if you think her's isn't a great singing voice then who better to duet with than Shane MacGowan? Altough that said I like Kirsty's voice, and for that matter Shane's. Let's call them vocalists. Good enough for me. And Giggi it's your turn now. Although I've just realised that Atila's one remains unanswered, perhaps it might be good form to ask him to reveal it to us as we admit defeat. AR we've cudgeled our brains, Googled like the low cheating bastards we are (well I did and I've not done it before and nor will I ever do it again) so please put us out of our mystery and give us the song. Thanks

Steady on Jayes we're not jailing people for far more serious offences. It's just this sort of thing that the stocks would be so appropriate for.

I think Bowie has a great talent for choosing his collaborators well. Mick Ronson was a hugely gifted musician/arranger and played a big part in the production of say Transformer, far more than he was given credit for. Ian Hunter once described DB as a "vampire", not in a unpleasant way but as an illustration of how he functions, taking from others to form something that's very much his own. A huge talent and Hunky Dory is as close as you'll get to a perfect record, I work just round the corner from where he was born in Brixton. Stansfield Road, number 40. I'm going to spend my lunch break standing outside it in silent contemplation.
