  1. Hmm, the minor rumpus kicked off by the cloak's postings remind me somewhat of the the oddities posted by CRAZYFISH or something like that. Has she disappeared? (BTW Sorry Keef, I could have started a new thread and let this one sink a little lower, but it is my first posting on this thread, and I'm sure it won't keep going forever. Maybe we should start a sweepstake on when it will disappear from the first page - Christmas...2008?) BM
  2. MW74, for someone who threatened to leave the thread a couple of hours ago, you're hanging on pretty well! Mrs M's sister practices Reiki, and I have benefited from having her hands passed over me - very calming. (But she is completely bonkers, in a sweet way of course.)
  3. Faff-on. Is that how you spell it? Meaning "I'm not doing that, it looks/sounds like a complete faff-on". Also faff around, as in "stop faffing around".
  4. Ha, me too! Is it Tina G Wee? I still like tingawee though... Anyway, welcome & hope you enjoy the area. BM
  5. The Village - Mercedes S class (with or without chauffeur) North Dulwich - Range Rover Vogue Sport (like Jamie Oliver) West Dulwich - Audi Q7 (gangsta bling) East Dulwich - Vauxhall Zafira or Mini Cooper (boosted in number by soon-to-open Foxtons)
  6. DM, I didn't realise you were in West Dulwich, I always assumed you were in 'the Village', far above us mere mortals....
  7. Cloak, I believe the last thread I read on the police station suggested it was destined to become a block of 'luxury' flats. Can't remember if this is speculation or whether someone has actually applied for planning...
  8. That does sound very good Cloak. Actually I forgot to mention that Black Cherry used to do a v nice lamb burger - though I'm sure not quite as nice as yours! Macroban, you are so right. I don't know what possessed us. It was our first, and probably last time in WD.
  9. Just got back from The Rosendale (in West Dulwich) which was reviewed in Time Out this week, and given a good rating for their burgers. Well, we may have been unlucky and arrived on an 'off' day, but even accepting that they have only been open for 5 weeks since their makeover, we were very disappointed. The burgers were OK but a bit dry, and not as rich in flavour as the review in TO led us to believe. Also we asked for one rare and one medium, and they both came back a little overdone. Chips were OK, but likewise, nothing amazing. So, where does one find the best burger in Dulwich? Our vote currently goes to The Herne, whose burgers are moist and tender and full of real, quality, meaty flavour - accompanied by gorgeous, 'home-made' chips. With lashings of ketchup and mayo to boot. Gourmet Burger King seems to us to be awful, over-priced, mass-produced 'concept food'. But we're always open to trying new places - any suggestions? BM
  10. Monica, that's lovely, I really would like to think of Icelands as 'having the answer', but sadly I'm a bit more cynical than you! I have been in previously, looking for something specific (can't remember what it was) and they didn't have it. I'm sure they are fit for purpose on most occasions though... BM
  11. !Por supuesto! We lounged around on the grass, sampled various (mostly Mexican) cuisine, and generally enjoyed soaking up the sights and sounds. Had to get baby M home for bathtime, so missed the evening's events, but we had a great day out. BM PS: The food at those stalls is so much better and more authentic than any 'proper' latin american restaurants I've tried in London - those guys should open up their own space. Especially since we went to wahaca on Saturday (new poncey Mexican restaurant near charing cross) and it wasn't nearly as good as the carnival... PPS: Maybe they could run the new Peckham Rye Park Cafe?!
  12. Which has the best public swimming pool? We went to 'the Spa at Beckenham' on Sunday morning for a swim with baby M, which was a bit disappointing really. Not terrible, just a bit dirty (toilet paper floating in the adult pool), water in the kids pool a little too cool, not what I was expecting from the web site which makes it look super-posh. In fact, it was no better than the pool at Peckham Pulse, which stands up pretty well by comparison. Haven't been to the Ed pool, but wondered which of the three pools forumites think is the best? And does anyone know anything about the plans for ED leisure centre re the GBP 5 million refurb? BM
  13. OK, thanks for all suggestions, we didn't make it to the lido, but did get to the LA carnival, which was great fun, with nice food stalls and plenty of space for relaxing on the grass (could have done with a parasol though!) Thanks again for your inspiration, BM
  14. It wasn't like that last time I went past, will check out tomorrow. No news on the third unit yet I guess? BM
  15. Thanks MM, Do you think Brockwell Lido is OK for young children (9 months)? Is the water quite warm? It certainly sounds nice to be in an outside pool while we can enjoy it. BM
  16. OK, according to the BBC, this weekend looks set to be a corker, at least relative to the kind of weather we've been subjected to recently. The Marauders will probably be trooping into town tomorrow, but are planning to spend Sunday doing nice family things in our vicinity. We might take baby M to Beckenham for a swim in the morning, and then - does anyone know of anything exciting that's going on later in the day? (We went to the Lambeth County Fair and Latinamerican carnival last weekend and had a great time at both.) Any suggestions appreciated, BM
  17. Don't know, but despite the location (hopefully the recycling bins can be screened off...) I'm hoping it's going to make a great a space to hang out on sunny days. Like the Dulwich Picture Gallery cafe but without the ladies who lunch, and hopefully a bit cheaper too. DPG cafe is really nice though, and actually won an award for its architecture. Great for Sunday afternoon tea.
  18. I don't get Jacks. Average prices for below average food, made by sixth formers who just don't put any love into what they're doing. You get the feeling it's run for them more than for their customers. Compared with Petitou on Choumert Road, it's a joke.
  19. I have to confess, I did buy a pair of white stuff cord jeans. Averagely priced, average quality. Cut is oriented a little too much towards early 30's rugby playing types who drink a lot of beer (definitely not me, but it does give me some slack for the lack of exercise currently caused by baby marauder) - but overall I'm quite happy with them and they're comfy. So, while I may not be buying much from them in the future, I could think of far worse clothing brands to have on LL.
  20. Cool Ultraconsultancy! BTW have you been to the new Rough Trade shop in the Truman Brewery? Just called in on my lunch break, and it looks like a great space, CD's, loads of (new) vinyl - it's amazing what's being re-released on vinyl these days. Plus they have a cafe, and a 'snug' with sofas and free wi-fi. Now if ED could have a more compact version of that...
  21. Of course the secret handshake only really works when you get to the point at which you 'press the flesh'. It might be interesting to have a form of recognition that can be used more subtly, ie to satisfy curiosity as to whether someone you see in ED is an EDF user - without having to approach them formally with the words 'Do you post?' (which makes me feel like an extra from a black and white WW2 movie - and would be very embarrassing if the other party does not, in fact,How about post). How about something more along the lines of nods, winks, etc - which of course could still make you look mad to the unenlightened - but would in any case be quite amusing to recount on the forum.
  22. Do you think 'gift shop' is a cover for something far more sinister?
  23. anyone know what's happening with the cafe in the park?
