Hello I am due to have my baby in a month and need to pack my hospital bag - any tips out there from recent mums?! There's lots of lists online but it makes it seem like you will need a small suitcase! Thanks

I am currently doing NCT classes as we are due to have a baby in early November. I also sent the slip in for the NHS classes 4 months ago but never heard back. I have since left a number of messages/tried to go to the office at Kings (it was closed) and now there seems to be no answerphone facility on the number - it just rings out. I know they are on Mondays/Tuesdays/Thursdays at various times so am thinking of just turning up now I am on mat leave. So my question is - are they worth it if I am also doing NCT, and given I can't reach anyone to ask, does someone who is going know when the first set of 3 start? Thanks!

Yes - we had the same chap at our door this afternoon - he was very friendly and the food boxes looked good quality. We bought some salmon fillets as a 'tester' and will see how we get on before ordering more if they are good. Good to give small businesses a chance who try and do something a bit different methinks..

Me too - I have only managed to go once while I am still working as it is just too early. I spoke to JAGs about this but they have not come back to me.

Louisa - you are obviously bored today! You know the 'oooh M&S/other new chain shop' threads run for miles and miles.......naughty.

Not sure but if I leave a bag of stuff on a public pavement I don't think the police would arrest a person who then took it away again and charge them with theft! Either way - it's abhorrent the person who takes from outside the shop and I agree they are taking from a charity shop but I also think the person who left it there in the first place is equally in the wrong... -

Peckham Rose - I agree that it's very low when people rifle through the charity bags and take stuff but my point is that it wouldn't happen if people didn't dump their litter there in the first place. They are not technically stealing as it's just a load of bags on a pavement.....the shops always ask people not to leave bags out of hours as by the time they open it's either ruined by rain or all the good stuff has been taken and they have to deal with the litter. Why can't the people return when the shop is open and give their bags to the staff instead of leaving a load of litter for them to deal with! -

Snorky - the person who left the bag outside the charity shop when it clearly asks people not to when it is closed is the real culprit here....... -
Any pubs open for lunch on New years day?
Indiana replied to Indiana's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes - I remember a few years ago a bunch of us trapsing round East Dulwich trying to find somewhere that was open to drink wine and eat well. I think we ended up at the Gowlett in the end, but as we had only left there at 4am that morning after a superb New Year's Eve party we were kind of hoping for a different venue! Liquorish sounds like an option though -thanks. -
Looking for a pub lunch on New Year's day - does anyone know which ones are open?

Took Lizziedangjo's advice and trotted off to B&Q at the weekend - a great range of trees. We got a 6ft one for about ?20 - very good shape etc and helpful staff.

I really like Georges Restaurant which is on the top floor of the Pompidou Centre. Fantastic views across the rooftops of the city, lots of glass so feels very open (you can sit outside in the summer) and have eaten there a few times and always impressed by the food and service. You can also have a wonder round some of the art exhibitions afterwards...

Alot of my favourites have been mentioned here already so I'm going to champion one that I tried on Sat night after not having been there for 7 years..... Mr Liu on Melbourne Grove/Lordship Lane - opp the Police Station...chinese/cantonese restaurant We used to pop in there when we lived that end of LL, then we'd forgotten about it in recent years due to living closer to the station. However, we moved house at the weekend, stumbled onto LL at 9pm exhausted after the move and strolled into Mr Liu.... What can I say? fantastic service, very busy with locals who obviously come regularly, superb food and a good wine list - and I have been wasting my money at Chopstick with it's bland tasting food for years! Ok it's a bit chintzy but thoroughly recommended - 4 of us had 2 courses each, 2 bottles of chablis all for ?20......what more do you need?!

Pierre - you say some people aren't able to get to the shops when they're open - I don't get it?!! They are open on the weekend too! I work in town during the week too and it's pretty simple to just wait until you are around on a Saturday to drop stuff off..??!!!
-
Yes - exactly.. Jeremy - most of the charity shops are open Saturdays and some on Sundays.....people go after hours, see the shop is closed and then 'can't be bothered' to put stuff back in car/take home again and return when it is open! Pretty simple.
-
I'm with Templeton here - the people dumping their charity bags outside shops when they are closed are the ones totally in the wrong. They can't be bothered to wait until the shop has opened and instead leave (effectively what turns in to) rubbish outside the shop for the charity to dispose of as it's usually sodden from rain or strewn over the pavement and ruined. It's a real pet hate of mine. Those who then go through the bags and take stuff I'm not too bothered about - it's basically rubbish left in the street so if they need it or sell it on at car boot sales/ebay so be it. So next time you see someone actually leaving the bags outside the shop (underneath quite a clear sign asking them not to!) that's when you should speak up.

Charlottekb - I live on St Francis Road and at about 8ish/8.3pm there were two police officers searching the road, pavements etc with their sniffer dog having a good old smell around bushes, bins etc so I presumed they were looking for the scent of someone or maybe a weapon. The police didn't all finally leave until 10 ish I think...great fun.
-
Lots of police, police tape, interviewing and police dogs scouring neighbouring streets for person/weapon? Anyone know what had gone on? I heard lots of shouting about 7.30pm but presumed it was the noise from Duliwch Hamlet FC - police then arrived and cordoned the area off - they were there for a good hours...

I am with Loraine here - haircut guy from the DIY shop is brilliant - often see him enjoying a pint or two at the bar in the Bishop. I am sure he must wear a hair net and rollers in bed to achieve such curves.
