  1. I don't know what to say about the spat between Sue and DJKQ, but I must say Sue has raised some interesting points about the McCann case that I was not aware of. Interesting, therefore, but not sure where it gets us. Perhaps the matter should be left there??
  2. All buses seem fine at present. I've used 197, 176, 185 and 36 today.
  3. Brilliantly explained Huguenot - that is really helpful.
  4. Hi, haven't stayed in Los Christianos recently, so my advice won't be up to date. I always use trip advisor to help choose the right hotel. They also have forums which answer lots of other questions about the resort or the rest of the island.
  5. Louisiana is right IMHO -we need to cut down as much as we can on energy use, and insulation is the most effective way because it means we need to produce less electricity. Don't bother with solar panels, insulate under you floors etc.
  6. If others are thinking that Alleyns is too expensive then be aware that there are several bursaries available which could mean you pay hardly anything, depending on income.
  7. Sorry, you're all wrong, it has to be Dancing Queen
  8. I found it pretty quick and easy to do, I must say
  9. I've been worried about this for years. The Oil Drum website is very scary in places. It makes me rather regret having children (only in a sense, you know what I mean), thinking of how hard things will be for them. I fear we are in for some very difficult times. Just imagine what will happen to the stock markets when they realise that cheap energy has gone for ever? Cheap energy underpins our whole civilisation. Jared Diamond's book "Collapse" looks at historical examples of civilisations that ran out of resources. It wasn't pretty either.
  10. I'm delighted!
  11. I have to say the HTC Desire is the bees knees as far as I'm concerned. I'm on Orange, no probs in ED with reception at all.
  12. You can usually find bags of smokeless fuel (coal) for sale in some petrol stations. I bought some from the Total garage at Cobb's corner in Sydenham.
  13. The Lib Dems claim - with some justification - that they have ensured that the new fees system is much fairer than that bequeathed by Labour, in that the poorer students will pay much less (if anything) from now on. I think the Libs need to work harder to tell people what they HAVE achieved, in watering down/altering/liberalising the Cons policies. They need to get their message across to get their poll ratings to rise again.
  14. 'bout now Wrote: ------------------------------------------- > ...is this the end for the Lib Dems? Who knows? But as the coalition is hoping (!) to last 5 years, it is entirely possible that by then we'll have a real recovery, and that even the students will have forgotten about this issue, and that the LibDems may do alright. Many governments are highly unpopular at this sort of stage, and then recover. I wonder if DJKQ can tell us Labour's policy on university fees, then? After all, they're the ones that brought them in, in the first place.
  15. You are completely wrong, I have never voted Tory in my life. Shows you up for looking at everything through your totally biased right wing Labour spectacles.
  16. You have a point PGC. Thing is though, I'm not sure vocational courses are cheaper to run. Obviously there'd be savings in not having to do research.
  17. Just opinions. No evidence to support them at all, DJKQ. And I would think Clegg might have held his nose whilst working for Leon B. Who knows? Many people work for politicians that they don't agree with politically. I think the coalition is doing quite well in difficult times, thanks to Labour's (mainly G Brown's) huge cock ups. Abolishing boom and bust. What an arrogant pr*ck that man must be!
  18. re the title of this thread - it sin't a massive dilemma at all. If your Dad isnt safe, then he shouldn't be driving. End of. Other posters have made some very helpful practical suggestions which you could act on. My wife was fortunate in that her elderly mum (90) realised herself that she wasn't totally safe, so she got us to sell her car and now she manages quite well without it. Taxis, lifts, buses. Online shopping.
  19. There's a parade at the Chapel in Dulwich Village too, with plenty of cadets from Alleyn's and a few from DC also.
  20. I should point out that as North London lacks rail services, as someone said earlier, but South London had extensive Southern Railway (as it was pre 1940s) services, which were electrified very early on (1920s). So, as tube lines had to be profitable, then the fact the Southern had the area sown up will have discouraged any rivals from getting involved in providing more services.

    Driving

Waynetta, you are totally wrong about this. If the inside lane is clear, that is where you should be. Stop showing your ignorance of good driving practice and the highway code. Speed is irrelevant. Don't be such a bollard!! lol
  22. Thanks for that HAL - useful advice for sure. x
  23. Great idea! Why not have a chat with Alleyn's School - their new building has just that sort of space. Might not be feasible, but surely worth a try?
  24. HTC Desire - I have had one a month now and they are just great. Like an iphone, but the apps can be bought from anywhere, you're not tied to the Apple shop like the iphone. Never used a Blackberry, can't comment, but The Desire is great for email, maps, even does satnav, music. Our IT boss at work has one, he thinks it is far better than rivals.
  25. Dear Zebedee, as I've already explained, the open space at the school is zoned as "metropolitan open space" and the planners won't let it be turned into concrete. So your first suggestion won't be possible: (1) Since your school has plenty of land, why can't you get, or indeed require, the coach companies to park off-road during the day?
