My friends wife is a school teacher and they had some ducklings in eggs Last week at the school and they hatched my friends wife bought them home for weekend as they couldnt be left alone at the school and she was ment to take back to the school Monday but read the bottom of the letter that comes with the eggs and when they have hatched your ment to call the company who breeds them etc and they will collect ( they charge £30 per egg for the schools ) and when they collect them they take them back to wherever they come from and kill the baby ducklings by gassing them , she got upset and refused to take them back and has contacted an animal sanctuary who will pick them up this week from her house , as an animal lover I think that is absolutely discusting and if anyone's school has this sort of thing going on please get other parents together and get it stopped

At sue , do you think the people of southwark or even the UK on their own can solve all of the environmental problems in the world on our own ? And putting garden waste into a brown bin is going to solve the environmental problems of the world ? I do my bit for the environment by doing my recycling and driving a electric van , southwark council are causing more pollution by having LTNs and causing the traffic jams and vehicles to idle, believe me iam all for the environment but I'm afraid what happens to the earth in 200 , 500 or one thousand years from now is not my concern , I need to makesure that I can keep myself and my family alive now the same as many other people who are finding it difficult to pay for food and pay their Bills, so I'm afraid I will be putting my garden waste into MY green bin which I pay for via my council tax and save my £80 which would help pay for my electric or gas or food .. Also heard that council may only be collecting green and blue bins once a month, not confirmed but just hear say at the moment ...
-
Dont care if its environmentally friendly or not , we need money to survive now and pay for food etc not waste £80 on a bin , we all pay our extortionate council tax so we shouldn't be paying anyway
-
Making people pay for garden waste etc is making fly tipping in some areas even worse .. I'm not going to renew my brown bin for £80 what a RIP off that is .. I'm gonna throw in green bin save my money , council will lose money now if 100 people stopped paying that's a potential £8000 in revenue because they are getting to greedy

Garden Waste Fees - 50% increase
tedfudge replied to Penguin68's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Fee rises include the garden waste charge going from £60 to £80 per annum, raising planning fees, increasing the price of leisure services and commercial property rents. -
Should cyclists have the same speed restrictions as motor vehicles?
tedfudge replied to tedfudge's topic in Roads & Transport
Can you get pulled over for speeding on a bicycle UK? Bicycles are not included. While you can't normally be charged for speeding on a bicycle you could, in extreme cases, be charged with careless cycling (maximum fine £1,000) or dangerous cycling (max fine £2,500). Furthermore, local bye-laws can impose limits on cyclists. -
Should cyclists have the same speed restrictions as motor vehicles?
tedfudge replied to tedfudge's topic in Roads & Transport
Do bicycles need lights UK? The most basic requirement of the law is to fit a white front light and a red rear light which must be clean and working properly, when cycling between sunset and sunrise. Reflectors should also be fitted to pedals and the rear of the cycle. Spoilt dog Type on Google or look at highway code for cyclists and it will tell you the laws for lights , red lights , etc. Has anybody watched the tik tok clips yet of cyclist hits barrier ? Can anybody tell me and others on here what happens if a cyclist damages a vehicle by breaking wing mirror , denting or scratching vehicle as they go past etc .. if I was to damage a cyclists bike my insurance company would pay out and by law I would have to stop and give details to cyclist but how would I know if cyclist is giving real name and how would they pay for any damage etc ,,? This is why cyclists need to have insurance it would also make them be more careful and considerate to others -

Last night I watched as a cyclist sped through a red light and nearly hit by a Tesco lorry and the when the Tesco lorry driver bibbed him he just total ignored him ( other cyclists had stopped at red light ) -
According to a news article bus drivers are talking about striking because of the LTNS as they are making their journey times longer and passengers being threatening and abusive to them and they are finishing late on their shifts , so it us not only people driving cars that are complaining A group of London bus drivers are considering striking after being pushed to “breaking point” by delays caused by low-traffic neighbourhoods and bus lanes being removed. Drivers say cycling policies are making life on the capital’s buses a misery, with one bus taking 55 minutes to travel two stops when it normally takes four minutes, according to The Times. This was in the evening standard newspaper and website

If anybody wants to see how dangerous and stupid some cyclists are when they speed then please have a look on tik tok and type in cyclists hit barrier , let us know what you think about that as clearly shows cyclists going faster than they should as anybody could come from the left of the picture and br seriously injured or worse and they are going that fast they dont even see the barrier . Please take a look To the avid cyclists on this thread have you ever read the highway code for cyclists ? Because I have and I have it on my phone as I like to tell dangerous cyclists the law about It Is a requirement by law to have lights on bicycles when dark and must stop at red traffic lights Must stop at pedestrian crossings when people are crossing Must hand signal at roundabouts and when turning corners Must not ride on pavements It's a pretty interesting read and as earl has said there is NOT a speed limit for a cyclist as they are not motorised so earl wins that argument , but they should obey the rules of the road as they are using it , it cannot be one rule for one and one rule for another that is what creates conflict etc , I also blame the police for not enforcing this laws when they see cyclists ride through red lights or no lights when dark or riding on pavement etc .. if there is no vehicles coming or pedestrians crossing road but lights are red motorists must stop but cyclists for some reason think they are above the law and ride through them and that's what annoys motorists -

Admin Note: this topic has been split from the "20mph in Southwark" one. It's not just motorists who speed , buses speed bet they dont get fined , I've seen many many cyclists speed believe me , I've been doing 20 over blackfriars bridge and cyclists have been whizzing past in the cycle lanes , if motorists have to abide by the 20mph on roads then so should cyclists , I've been over taken by cyclists when I've been doing 20 loads of times so annoying that they get away with it where as motorists get flashed by cameras or stopped by the police but cyclists can just carry on with no fear of fines or points on licence

I have asked southwark council to put more speed bumps etc on Barry road at least 6 times in the 22 years I have lived there as seen many a crash including 2 cars I have owned being written off while parked outside my own house by poor drivers who speed etc , the response from council was that it is up to the police to request speed bumps and cameras etc ( which I find rubbish ) I am with ppppick up a penguin 68 ( couldn't help myself sorry penguin ) That it's all to do with the buses 20mph zones do NOT deter people from driving faster than 20 I must admit I do it myself , not excessively but I dont always stick to the 20 unless iam driving near a school which I will drive slower than 20 or a park etc but some roads like the old Kent road should not be a 20mph road that's just plain stupidly by someone sitting in an office wondering what they can do today to keep their job
