  1. I did look at Zipcar as an alternative for my occasional use needs in ED and a few trips to the Yorkshire Dales to see close family. Unfortunately, the most basic Zipcar for a 5 day trip, with no certainty that you can stay on an extra night which I often do [an extra £85], the price comes in at £483. Completely prohibitive for me.
  2. ...and a £65 fine each and every time your cleaning lady, friend, relative, child, pops by and forgets their 1-hour permit has run out 10 minutes ago. "I thought I'd only be here an hour", "I didn't realise the time", or "I didn't ask you for a permit for my car as I was only dropping off your child and then we got chatting on the doorstep..." "I didn't even notice the warden on the moped..." Things to consider... The person visiting you stays 10 mins longer than intended. Returning to their car that has a 2hr parking voucher, their 'extra 10 mins results in a £65 fine. Your cleaning lady decides to stay a bit longer to finish off a job and when you get home from work she left you a note saying "I got a ticket, I didn't realise"...results in a £65 fine. Your guests stay overnight. Next morning, too late, you realise they should have had a parking voucher from 8am...run out to the car, £65 fine. Car goes into the garage and you have a loan car for the day...completely overlooking the fact that not only is your permit in your car in the garage but such permit is useless as it is for that car only, and you should have made arrangements with the council for a temporary permit. £65 fine. Your visitor puts a voucher on the dashboard and it blows over or to the floor as the door closes. You then show the voucher to the warden when challenging the ticket but are told "you could have written it after the fine"...£65. Permits will preoccupy you day in day out. I have lived where a vigorously managed CPZ had parking wardens waiting on the corners of the street at 7.59 am each day, ready to pounce. The most diligent of neighbours still paying fines [because they are human and they, or their visitors, occasionally forget]. The annoyance that you have paid £250 so you expect to be able to park. You will need to pay to park on most other roads [by getting hold of permits for that road], making sure you cover yourself for the remaining enforced time left and, if necessary, another permit for the following morning if you arrive home after work. You will have to get used to clock-watching, being constantly aware of the need to remember the permit times of visitors, to mark time, to note time, to use visitor permits, deciding whether or not to give a visitor a permit if they only drop by for a few minutes ...if so, you stand guard at the window the whole time, looking for wardens. That is, if you can see the car... You will have to get used to the regular sight of wardens, who often don't bring a sense of joy and optimism, as you now live in a lucrative, money-making CPZ. All these things and more happened to me and my neighbours when we lived in an unwanted, unrequested [by us], CPZ. Oh yes, and we unanimously requested 12-2pm and got 8am-8.30pm, Mon to Sat inclusive. Once in place, and despite many protestations, it never changed. It's not just the £250+ cost of the permit....
  3. Once again, Niko is the Number 1 guy to go to for all plumbing related issues ! He is endlessly reassuring, each visit comes with sage advice and the knowledge that he is endlessly available no matter what the problem. If he can, he will talk you through doing it yourself if it doesn't need his expertise, a very refreshing approach. And, as I said last time... "Came round quickly. Very decent price. Professional. Generous with his advice and support. Lovely person with lots of experience and reassurance. Just what was needed!" Until the next time, Niko!....
  4. Ah, Niko!! First time I have called upon him after an EDF search for a plumber. Such a great guy, and definitely top of my list to call for any plumbing-related issues! Came round quickly. Very decent price. Professional. Generous with his advice and support. Lovely person with lots of experience and reassurance. Just what was needed!
  5. Do you mean ALL of Denmark Hill or just the bit by the station?
  6. I thought the LTN has made a virtual gated community out of the village 🤔 This

  8. Voted at the St Clements, Friern Road polling station, 6pm-ish, and they said that turnout had been low so far...
  9. Another acknowledgement for Jon who now has a team, such is his excellence!! Seriously, I texted him at short notice for just a few windows and he was there the next day, then fitted in my neighbour who is also really happy with his work. He also does carpet and upholstery cleaning [i can vouch for this after one of my sons smashed a whole box of beers down the carpeted stairs and Jon came out the day after Boxing day and saved us!] Ovens, decks, end of tenancy cleaning. I'm just reading from his website...he must be doing well because, years ago, he used to just clean my windows and be a really decent man. So...a recommendation for Jon and his lovely team! https://www.jonsmithscleaningservices.co.uk/
  10. No post for nearly three weeks except yesterday received a birthday card posted 12th December...sigh.
  11. My friend had this bike stolen from Forest Hill. 'Bird ZeroAM 27.5" hard tail, size M. Super subtle paint scheme'. Really grateful if anyone sees it.
  12. Thanks for this. I am trying my absolute best to not drive the car I can't afford to replace but am already ?50 in debt to TFL [on Autopay]. *A215 Denmark Hill / A2216 Champion Park *Peckham Rye/East Dulwich Road *'Lordship Lane'...not sure which bit as they try not to show you more than your registration plate. [two lanes, then an unbroken white line with red route double lines on opposite side if there is any detectives out there...]
  13. Mine still not arrived so have emailed them to ask for another. Maybe if we all did that they might get the message...
  14. "We recently sent out a newsletter to all households in Dulwich" ... ..er, no you didn't. Dunstans Road.

COMPLETELY agree!
  16. Southwark Council are asking local residents and businesses for feedback as to whether or not they should keep the 'temporary pavement widening measures on Dunstans and Upland Roads'. As a local resident, it's the first time I have been asked my opinion on this, one of many, parking, layout and road changes in the vicinity.

So, James are you saying that if, for example, I move my car from the next street to be near to my flat they will charge me ?11.50 each time? Cross-referencing it with any recent journeys paid for? I bought my car after the Government said diesel was better. I have to keep it for rare journeys. But current issues with reduced parking, builders vans, school parents drop-offs mean that we often have to park a long way from our home. To think that people will feel persecuted in this way is unbelievable.
  19. Another great job by Jon! Nothing is too much trouble and he really is a great guy! https://www.jonsmithscleaningservices.co.uk/
  20. Albrighton Community Fridge is a fantastic resource for our local area and families and individuals can get much-needed free food without a referral. More importantly, they are a fantastic team and helping a couple of hours or more a week is very rewarding. Highly recommend!

Totally agree! Also, as we are months away from the extended Ulez zone there will need to be cameras on every corner. Maybe these new cameras are part of that plan?
  22. Lost! One bright yellow toddler shoe...my granddaughter's first pair! :( Somewhere from inside Goose Green Playground, up Crystal Palace Road, towards Dunstans. Thank you.
  23. 'Whoeveritis', I think it's appalling that you should call individuals out by name on a public forum and then proceed to slag them off. For what it's worth, Sue has been an absolutely wonderful and helpful receptionist in all the 8 years I have been a patient at FHR. That aside, no-one deserves to have to read your diatribe. Shame on you.
