This has just happened to me. I definitely did NOT want to replace the whole thing. Went to Dulwich DIY and a '?2 plug on a chain' later....success!!

Cafe in Peckham Rye goes cashless
Jacqui5254 replied to siousxiesue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes, got turned away on Tuesday after queuing with a 3 year old. Didn't want to go for a trip to the park with a handbag so just put some cash in my pocket. No drinks for us. -
Suggestion to reduce single use plastic locally
Jacqui5254 replied to simn's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Maybe fill it with fresh food and give it to someone on the streets who could do with a meal? Lots of people around Peckham Rye station for example...on your way to work? Doesn't need to be fancy....could be fruit or a piece of cake. -
Sainsburys - removed more trolley tills

I rarely use self scanners as I object to the reduction in available jobs. And now overtime it seems. -
Sinister anti-CPZ posters in shop windows
Jacqui5254 replied to Lowlander's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Talking about 'hyperbolic statements without evidence to support them", wasn't there a MASSIVE Southwark Council poster on the railings outside M+S that claimed.. "FACT. People who walk to the high street spend 40% more than those who drive to the high street"? -

So how does it work if there are conflicting views...if one or more vote is for, and one or more against? jimlad48 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Someone asked about how many votes counted from > same address. All this so that a few people who live near the station can 'supposedly' park nearer to their homes.....???!!!! -

Surely a 'no return within [a certain time period]', as is common on many signs, would ensure that the driver has to move the car? 1921 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi James > > Can you please find out if the whole day CPZ does > not come into place and it is reduced to 2 hours > as was the majority vote how the council plan to > deal with the problem of people parking and then > paying at a later time. 8.30-6.30!!!!! I thought it was to discourage all day parking by those who went to work from the station...? -
It's funny, because there is a black and white cat that spends a lot of it's time on Dunstans and Goodrich. I always thought it lived around here and has a curious personality as it follows people around and gets a lot of attention. It has jumped into my car a couple of times when I have come home and was VERY reluctant to get out. It has also run into my flat a couple of times. I never got the impression it was hungry or desperate though. Maybe we are talking about a different cat?

Hi Sue I was so persecuted by them in my flat. I tried everything. They ate all my clothes, I had train tracks of where they had eaten into my bedroom carpet. Every time I saw one I responded like some crazy person. I then bought this....https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pest-Expert-Killing-Clothes-approved/dp/B075LH2SDR/ref=sr_1_10?s=outdoors&ie=UTF8&qid=1535037805&sr=1-10&keywords=Pest+Expert and, after using a lot of the spray, I have not seen a single moth in well over a year. And I still have loads left just in case. I wish you well! Jacqui. ps...was going to send this as a pm but your inbox is full.

How on earth can you make a judgement on what people can and cannot afford? As you say, car owners have to buy, maintain, tax and insure a car. Add on the cost of petrol, extra penalties for diesel car parking [diesel cars bought on the advice of the government as being the smart and responsible choice], congestion charges, ULEZ penalties, etc. A lot of people need to use a car, and a lot of people are struggling financially.

Delivery of parcels in East Dulwich
Jacqui5254 replied to Jennys's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've had two red cards yesterday to say that I wasn't in when, in fact, I was only feet away from my front door. No way did anyone try to deliver 2 parcels I have paid postage for. And whilst we are at it....this means I have to DRIVE to Peckham to collect my parcels whilst this forum is debating the problems of too many car journeys in this area. I wonder how many car journeys this slack system is creating? Time for some formal complaints to Royal Mail. -
Southwark School Street Closure Scheme
Jacqui5254 replied to Passiflora's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Where are the parking wardens/enforcement officers?? We don't need a hammer to crack a nut...it's reasonable behaviour that is required, not control, closures, 'residents only', new signs, barriers, street access times, etc. This is crazy. And to all the people in Herne Hill, those whose houses I parked outside when I took my children [and my friend's children in a car share] to school...I parked outside your house twice a day, Mon-Fri during term time and I thank you for the opportunity to do so. I now live near a school so...feel free....It's now my turn to have a minor inconvenience. Traffic wardens are the answer, not sleep walking into another Southwark Council initiative to control the roads, based on a 'good idea', and without any investigation into individual needs of the area. -

One thing that is very clear is just how disorganised and chaotic Southwark's approach to implementing a CPZ is and we are all walking blindly into a potential nightmare. On the basis of this, we should all vote NO until they show us that they are offering a positive, well-thought-through solution based on facts and needs of the area. We need to stop thinking "I want to park outside my house" and instead consider just what this will do for all the people who live, work, shop and enjoy East Dulwich and the implications for its future.

If Southwark cared about reducing pollution they could start with reducing the size of the speed bumps throughout the area which they haven't chosen to do. Constantly slowing down and speeding up almost doubles the amount of harmful gasses vehicles pump out. The CPZ is nothing to do with 'cleaner air'.

nxjen, goldilocks wrote "but generally they just add the cost of the parking to the job" apologies, my post should have read.." are you going to be happy to pay for someone to come and give a quote?", highlighting that even short visits from people will end up costing us money. My concern is that the residents will be paying out for all sorts of extras that are currently free,

Yes, but right now NO-ONE has to 'add on a tenner' as we don't have a CPZ. I don't understand why all these extra ???s are being bandied about in such a casual way. A lot of people do not have spare money to be used for things they don't currently pay for. An extra tenner to add on for workmen [and are you going to be happy to pay for them to come and give you a quote?] ?125 residents permits. ?2.75 an hour parking bay [?3.25 if diesel]. Visitors permits.. ?10.30 - groups of 10 (1 hour) permits ?1.55 - individual 1 hour permit Five hour permits ?20.60 - groups of 10 (5 hour) permits ?2.58 - individual 5 hour permit All day permits ?5.15 - individual all day permit ?25.75 - 10 all day permits (purchased within any 12 month period) ?46.35 - additional permits (max 100 per resident), purchased within one year of buying your first 10 after 12 months, you'll qualify for the discounted price ?85 instant fine for misdemeanors. So let's not gloss over the financial implications for us all.
