  14. 'Christmas is fast approaching and I wanted to let you know about some extra steps we're taking to help you shop safely this December. Help us to serve you quicker, please shop alone We want to help everyone get in and out of our shops quickly and safely. We are doing everything we can to keep queues as short as possible - and we really appreciate your help with this. We are limiting the number of people in our shops at any one time, so please help us to help you by shopping alone where at all possible. By shopping on your own, we can help more people to get in and out of our stores much more quickly - which means less time queuing for everyone. Of course we understand that some people need support with their shopping and that single parents will need to bring their children. To help with this, we have greeters on hand outside busy stores who count people going in and out so we have a safe number of people inside at any one time. They will also be asking customers to shop alone where possible. Our colleagues have done a phenomenal job this year, working extremely hard in challenging conditions to serve all our customers and help us to feed the nation. Please continue to show your support to them over the festive period - they and I would really appreciate it. Shop early, shop safe We and other retailers have been asking you to shop early to help us serve everyone in the key Christmas weeks. Lots of you have been following this advice and buying Christmas cupboard essentials much earlier than usual. Thank you for this. Buying these products earlier means you'll find everything you need and we hope you can then focus on your fresh food shop closer to the day itself. Plus, it should help us manage queues better as we get closer to Christmas. To thank you for shopping early, you can collect 10x Nectar points when you shop across thousands of Christmas cupboard lines, in store or online, between Friday 4th and Sunday 13th December. You can find more details on the offer and which products are included here. When you're shopping in our stores, try using SmartShop. This is a great app that you can set up on your phone before you get to the store, then immediately start scanning your items and pack as you shop before checking out quickly - so no need to unpack and then re-pack your items at the end of your shop. It's fast as well as safe. SmartShop is available in all supermarkets and by next week, you can also use the app in over 500 convenience stores. Extended store opening hours and Boxing Day opening hours To help you get everything you need in the final few days before Christmas, we will be opening our stores for longer. 90% of our supermarkets will be open from 6am until midnight from Monday 21st until Wednesday 23rd December and many others will be open for longer than usual. Thank you for all your feedback about the fantastic job our colleagues are doing. They are working so hard to make sure you have everything you need for the best possible Christmas with your loved ones. To give them a little more time to spend with their families, our supermarkets will be open for fewer hours this Boxing Day. All Sainsbury's supermarkets will be open from 10am to 5pm on 26th December and our convenience stores will be open as usual. You can find exact Christmas and Boxing Day opening hours for all our stores on our Store Locator webpage. Help Brighten a Million Christmases This Christmas, we want to help make sure no one goes hungry. Until Monday 14th December, we're inviting you to Help Brighten A Million Christmases. By donating food in Sainsbury's stores or donating money in-store, online or via Nectar, you can help put food on the table for thousands of families this Christmas. You can find more details about how you can Help Brighten A Million Christmases here. To help your donations go even further, we are donating ?5 million to a community fund. We'll match your donations up to ?4 million and also contribute ?1 million to local charities and good causes. Giving back business rates relief In this extraordinary year, we've been proud to play our part in feeding the nation. While we have faced significant costs in keeping colleagues and customers safe, it's clear that a second national lockdown has benefitted food and other essential retailers. With regional restrictions likely to stay in place for some time, we believe it's now fair and right that we return the government's business rates relief that we were given on all Sainsbury's stores. We know that non-essential retailers and many other businesses have been forced to close in the second lockdown and we hope that this goes some way towards helping them. Thank you I know we are asking you to do things a little differently this year and I'm really grateful to you all for working with us as we do our best to keep you and our colleagues safe at this important time of year. Shopping alone and shopping early will help you find everything you need and get in and out of our stores quickly and safely - so you can spend less time shopping and more time celebrating. We will be doing everything we can to help you to shop safely and get everything you need from us for this Christmas. Please let me know if you have any feedback on your experience at Sainsbury's this Christmas. Thank you for all your support and thank you for shopping with us. Best wishes Simon'
  15. Amnesty International has joined the Postcards of KIndness campaign for Christmas. Please see attached scan of the Amnesty magazine or have a look at the Postcards of Kindness facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/PostcardsOfKindness/ This is a short description of the campaign from the Facebook page: 'Writing postcards, connecting lives... Last year Your Health Limited launched a campaign asking people to send our residents postcards. We're taking our Postcards of Kindness Appeal one step further this year, and would like to encourage more care homes and care settings to get involved. We want to combat loneliness and isolation across the country, and remind our residents that there's always somebody thinking of them - regardless of where in the world the postcards have come from. Imagine being able to travel the world alongside card writers while sharing their holiday adventures; residents' memories are stirred and imaginations piqued! Getting involved is so simple, and we welcome contributions from care homes, hospices, hospitals and other care settings, as well as posts and messages from those who would like to send a card to one or more addresses.'

  24. Note priority access to stores from Thursday for elderly, vulnerable & NHS id holders. 'Over the last few months, we have been focused on adapting our business to keep you safe and serve you well. As we are seeing increased restrictions across the nation, I am writing to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to keep you and our colleagues safe when you shop with us. We are also aware that this is a challenging time for those in need and I want to tell you more about how we are ramping up our efforts to support the communities we serve and help get food to those who need it the most. Feeding the nation As we approach winter, we know that queuing will become harder for some of our customers. From Thursday, we will offer elderly and vulnerable customers and NHS and care workers with an NHS ID priority access to our stores. This means you can skip the queue at any time so that we can welcome you into our stores quickly and safely. We will continue to have socially distanced queuing systems in place outside our stores, supported by a greeter at the front of stores at busier times of day and we ask that you please queue at a safe distance of two metres apart. We are following government guidance and encourage you to please do the same by wearing a mask when you are in our stores. However, we completely understand if you are medically exempt from wearing a mask. Where possible, we ask that you only send one adult per household when you shop with us. This will help us manage the number of people in our stores and make your shop quicker and smoother. As we keep working hard to feed the nation, we are focused on getting as much food and other essential items as possible onto shelves. We have a good supply of stock so please also continue to buy what you need for yourself and your family and there will be enough for everyone. Online shopping We have been working hard to increase the number of online orders we can carry out and we are on track to fulfil 750,000 online orders per week across home delivery and Click and Collect. We'll be going into the festive season able to serve more people than ever before and we'll increase this as much as we can as we head into Christmas. Since March, we have delivered over seven million orders to our elderly and vulnerable customers and these customers still have priority access to online orders. If you are a self-isolating customer, please use the delivery instructions box on the online checkout to let us know. I also want to let you know that our online order slots for the core Christmas period, 20th to 23rd December, go on general release from 29th November. All our online orders will continue to be delivered without bags, which allows us to serve more customers, however our drivers can help our elderly and vulnerable customers transfer their shopping into bags if needed. Supporting our community Earlier this year, with help from our customers and colleagues, we donated over ?4 million to Comic Relief and Children in Need and ?3 million to Fareshare to support food banks. However we know that sadly, many people are still struggling to feed themselves and their families. To ensure that no one goes hungry this Christmas, we are creating a ?5 million community fund as part of our 'Help Brighten a Million Christmases' campaign. We invite you to support by donating Nectar points, food and other essential products or money in store and online between 1st-14th December. We'll match donations up to ?4 million and with your help, we can raise up to and beyond ?8 million for local charities and communities, supporting the most vulnerable in society. In addition to the ?4 million guaranteed donation, we are creating a ?1 million pot for our stores to contribute to local community groups and good causes. We'll share more details on how you can help us Brighten a Million Christmases in the coming weeks. Poppy Appeal We are also proud to support The Royal British Legion's annual Poppy Appeal, for the 26th year, to raise funds to help the Armed Forces community. In addition to purchasing paper poppies until 11th November, you can support by donating your Nectar points via the Nectar app and website, or through cashless donations at checkouts in store and online. Finally, to recognise the amazing effort of our colleagues across the UK, we will be making a second thank you payment of 10% of four weeks' pay, to all of our frontline colleagues and managers who have gone above and beyond this year, in time for Christmas. Thank you I know this has been an incredibly challenging year for everyone, so thank you for being patient with us. Our colleagues continue to come to work on the front line every day to help keep the nation fed and I am extremely grateful to them for everything they are doing day in, day out to serve you and all our customers. Best wishes, Simon, Chief Executive'
