From that date, ?hostile environment? checks apply to EU citizens in earnest. It will no longer be possible to satisfy an immigration status check ? for benefits, employment or a tenancy ? by flashing an EU passport. Instead, as Home Office guidance puts it, EU nationals ?will be required to provide evidence of lawful immigration status in the UK, in the same way as other foreign nationals?. For those living in the UK before the end of 2020, evidence of lawful immigration status is likely to mean pre-settled or status granted under the EU Settlement Scheme. Applications to that scheme are, for the most part, also required before 1 July; people who haven?t applied by then will invariably run into the hostile environment. What happens to those people is the subject of this podcast. Chris Benn from Seraphus, as ever our indispensable guide to all things Settlement Scheme, has the latest word on what EU residents can expect if not among the 5 million people who have already secured their pre-settled or settled status. If you prefer it in writing: we?ve previously reviewed the guidance on making late applications, and will put out a briefing on the approach to enforcement, drawing on Chris?s intel, next week.' Three links regarding recent case re: Zambrano carers & EU Settlement scheme 'By way of very brief (and slightly simplistic) explanation, Zambrano carers are non-EU citizens who are primary carers of British citizens. They derive a right to reside in the UK on the basis that, if they were to leave the UK, the British citizen would be compelled to leave the EU. Importantly, as Zambrano rights derive from EU law, they are only available to those who became primary carers of British citizens before 31 December 2020.' - https://www.freemovement.org.uk/high-court-finds-the-eu-settlement-scheme-rules-for-zambrano-carers-unlawful/ - https://www.freemovement.org.uk/latest-on-zambrano-carers-and-the-eu-settlement-scheme/ - https://www.freemovement.org.uk/eu-settlement-scheme-zambrano-carers/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=eu-settlement-scheme-zambrano-carers&utm_source=Free+Movement&utm_campaign=c2b7192896-EU+rights+updates&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_792133aa40-c2b7192896-105092221&mc_cid=c2b7192896&mc_eid=bcf851a85d

A minority cannot, including adults without a valid passport and children with no ID at all. Those people have had to call the Settlement Scheme helpline and ask for a paper application form to be posted out to them. With days to go before the main application deadline, some readers have told us that they are unable to get through. Possibly as a result, the Home Office has now put that application form on its website. The form can be downloaded and submitted by email or post, but there are important restrictions. It is only for: people who have been in touch with the helpline already and been told they are allowed to use the form, or people who, as above, have no valid passport/ID card and need to rely on alternative evidence of their identity Our friends at Seraphus also advise that this form cannot be used by non-EU citizens who qualify for the EU Settlement Scheme under a variety of scenic routes (known to lawyers as Zambrano, Chen, Ibrahim, Surinder Singh and Lounes) and also have to apply on paper. Such applicants still need to request a different type of paper form from the helpline. Approved NGOs and local councils can request these specialised application forms by emailing the EUSS Grants Team rather than having to phone up. This article was originally published on 10 June and has been updated several times in light of changing information about the process for obtaining a paper form.

I strongly disagree. There has been an upsurge of violence against women in recent months. A battery and attempted murder - strangulation - is extremely serious and, given that the offender carried out this attack in broad daylight it should be high priority not only for the impact on the family involved, but the risk of further escalation. alice Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > With all the police cuts hard decisions have to be > made. I agree with Penguin68 - contact Helen Hayes and mark it urgent: [email protected] - I've found her to be responsive to issues I have raised; yours being rather more pressing than mine. Also, maybe get in touch with Inspector Tom Cornish | Neighbourhood Policing | Southwark | AS BCU | Peckham Police Station, 177 Peckham High Street, London, SE15 5SL tel: 0207 232 6495 | internal: 726495 mobile: 07917 133162 Twitter: @InspTomCornish

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/police-missing-person-tameda-khamara-camberwell-b939834.html Whilst not technically ED, she went missing from Camberwell on Wednesday, I think it is crucial to get the messsage out and get her home safe and sound. Photograph via link. 'In a tweet on Thursday morning, Southwark Police said: ?#Missing Please help us find 12yr old Tameda Khamara missing from the #Camberwell area. Last seen on 09/06/21. ?She was last seen wearing school uniform - grey skirt, white shirt, grey blazer. ?We?re really concerned for her welfare - please call 999 if seen quoting 21MIS016556.?'

Those people have to call the Settlement Scheme helpline and ask for a paper application form to be posted out, filled in and returned. It?s much more of a faff. With 20 days to go before the Settlement Scheme deadline, the Home Office now says that these application forms can be ordered and returned by email instead of by post. This doesn?t seem to be mentioned on its website yet, but officials have been letting lawyers and charities know in correspondence. Marianne Lagrue from Coram Children?s Legal Centre has the following message direct from the EUSS Grants Team: With effect from Wednesday 9th June 2021 it is now possible to request paper application forms from the SRC [settlement Resolution Centre] to be sent via email, this will hopefully speed up the process. In addition to this, if required, it is also possible to submit a paper form via email, although this needs to be specifically requested when requesting the paper application. Any bulk requests (no more than 10 per sheet) should be sent using the attached spreadsheet [here] with all required columns completed to [email protected]. Presumably non-bulk requests for an emailed application form can also go to [email protected]; we?ll try to confirm that.'

Update to story in Guardian today: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/may/21/uk-like-an-enemy-state-to-eu-nationals-detained-by-border-force As a former lawyer in the field I would suggest returning with basic proof of your residence and/or presettled/settled status, for example, but not limited to: NHS number, NI number, proof of employment and home address, proof of application for settled status i.e ref number. You would only need to use them if an issue arose. Maybe a practising immigration lawyer could add their advice. Colin Yeo, an immigration barrister, has a good website, www.freemovement.org.uk, which has an article regarding visitors being affected but not returning residents yet. Watch that space. Just found an older post on Colin's website which maybe helpful on proving residency when automated checks fail: https://www.freemovement.org.uk/how-to-show-residency-when-the-eu-settled-status-automated-checks-dont-work/

Link: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/news/watch-out-for-scams-related-to-census-2021 'I?ve received an email/text that says I need to pay a fine because I haven?t filled in my census, is this legitimate? For a fine to be imposed your case must go to court for non-completion of the census. You will never be issued with a fine by text message, phone call, email, or on social media. You will not be fined for a mistake on your census. The ONS have a Cyber Intelligence Team who are taking down fake sites related to the Census. If you find a site that looks suspicious or receive text messages with links to sites asking for money related to the census, do not engage with them. Report them to the Census 2021 Contact Centre by ringing 0800 141 2021 in England and 0800 169 2021 in Wales'

I think the noise seems louder because we're so unused to it (at least I am!) after the near silence overhead for a long time last year, but I have been wondering if the planes coming overhead are flying lower. I was quite concerned about one in particular the other day.

As well as talking to your neighbour, you could also have a chat with the RSPCA, not to make a complaint of cruelty/asb etc., but to see if they can help educate the owner about training, behaviour etc. if you are unable to make progress to resolve the disturbance. There is a local RSPCA office not too far away ([email protected]).
