I have just witnessed what appeared to be a drug hand-over between two cars (one parked and one pausing as passing by) towards the LL/Horniman end of Underhill. Has anyone else noticed that this is happening on Underhill?

'Trussell Trust Reverse Advent Calendar Campaign Christmas is undoubtedly a time of excess for many. However not everyone is in a position to indulge. For that reason, we?d like to suggest considering taking part in this campaign by the Trussell Trust if you can. It?s pretty simple, every time you open a door in your own advent calendar and take a treat for yourself, you also donate a much needed item of food to a box destined for a local food bank. To check what stock is most needed in your local area, visit https://www.trusselltrust.org/get-help/find-a-foodbank/ and click on the links to ?Give help?/?Donate food?. They ask that you try and get donations in as early as possible so that foodbanks have enough time to distribute before Christmas.' A quick google turned up this, so maybe James Barber would know more or the leaflet might point you in the right direction: https://jamesbarber.mycouncillor.org.uk/files/2015/01/Dulwich-WWII-Air-Raid-Trail.pdf Also the archivist at Alleyn's might have record (see school website).

Do any local garden centres recycle plastic plant pots?
IlonaM replied to IlonaM's topic in The Lounge
That's good to know, thanks DulwichFox. Hopefully I'll be able to pass them on to someone who can use them. I collect so many! -
Does anyone know of any local garden centres recycle plastic plant pots? As there are now companies recycling pots into new goods it would be a good idea to have some local collection points, but I haven't found any yet.

Unfortunately some roads are quite busy in East Dulwich. I have two buses regularly coming past me on Underhill and am quite close to Lordship Lane. I moved from an exceptionally quiet road in SE15 and it was a surprise, although luckily I sleep at the back of the house. You do get used to it - Can you get nice thick curtains for the front of the house? They can help. If you have a front garden you could think about a hedge or trees as planting them can not only help reduce noise pollution but air pollution as well! You'll need to check which are best though.

Love this - Stars line up to pay for coach travel to Brexit 'people's vote' march Delia Smith and Sir Patrick Stewart join political figures to help supporters get to London https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/oct/06/stars-line-up-to-pay-coach-travel-to-brexit-peoples-vote-march That is how important it is to have a say in sorting out the quagmire the politicians have got us into.

If you pop it on the For sale section you might have interest from gardeners!!! Excellent for bottom of planters etc.

Just had a concerned young man from Belvoir Rd who is checking locally for the owner of a 'white/silver tabby' which he found deceased on Belvoir Rd this evening. He described the cat as not your ordinary tabby colouring. He has taken the cat into his home to keep it safe and is trying to locate the cat's family. He is planning to take it to a vet tomorrow to check for a microchip. He may also post separately on the Forum as I suggested that he check descriptions of missing cats in the Lost section. I have his name and house number if you think it might be your cat. Please PM me and I will reply to you as soon as I can.

LL end of Underhill - lots of slow/no mail deliveries for a couple of weeks. We discovered yesterday that a temp? postman had put everything in one box rather than individual boxes! Important letter barely got here in time. Hope everything settles soon as there are quite a few parcels MIA at the moment.

Cat scent might help I suppose. Have you got a friend who could bring their cat round for a visit? As for a resident cat, I think it depends on the cat - one cat owner I met said mice freely walked across their cat's line of sight as she had no interest in chasing them. I think my housecat would be more of a huntress if she got the opportunity, though. Have you thought of ultrasonic deterrents that you plug in? As long as there are no pet rodents nearby (hamsters, gerbils ... mice etc.) it will discourage rodents, ants etc. Peppermint oil spray or soaked cotton balls placed in strategic spots can also be quite effective I've found as the mice don't like the smell.

What to do with a 16 year old for a 2 week half term?
IlonaM replied to DiD's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Start off with what is he/she interersted in?! You both could plan a mix of activities - discovering small, lesser known museums/cinemas/areas of London etc. and/or free events on South Bank etc. - and a bit of work shadowing/experience in their area of interest. Do they enjoy languages/other cultures? If so, there are a number of cultural institutes in London with events, courses etc. - Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrave Sq, French Institute in South Kensington, Spanish Institute, Goethe Institute to name but a few. -
Also, remember the volunteer befriending services offered by AgeUK (https://www.ageuk.org.uk/lewishamandsouthwark/services/) and Link Age Southwark (http://linkagesouthwark.org/) for lively conversation, activities, advice etc.

I hope you sort it out soon. There's enough to do when you first move in without worrying about the bins...

I agree with worldwiser to go back to your solicitor. Easements etc should be covered in your lease. Another source of information and advice is LEASE with a helpful website and telephone advice line: www.lease-advice.org

'This Saturday 22 September we can take our country walks to central London to make sure politicians see just how much we care about our animals. The People?s Walk for Wildlife will start at 12pm with ?infotainment? from some of the top names in the world of wildlife. Then there will be a family-friendly walk winding through the streets of London. Animal costumes and face paints are encouraged! Would you like to come Ilona? Here are the details: Sat, 22nd September 10am: Gather at Reformers' Tree, Hyde Park, London 12 noon: Infotainment 1pm: Walk: Hyde Park Corner, Piccadilly, St James, Pall Mall, Cockspur St, Whitehall 2pm: Finish at Richmond Terrace Every year is important for our wildlife. But this year is even more so. Brexit means big decisions that will impact on our wildlife for generations to come. New laws will be passed. It could be make or break for our bees, birds, and badgers. So now is a great time to show our politicians how much we love nature. Since the 1960s our wildlife numbers have been decimated. We?ve lost over 44 million birds and half of our hedgehogs [2]. When we go on our country walks we?re no longer hearing the sounds of nature our parents and grandparents enjoyed. It will take people power to stop this.' There was a young man doing work experience in the Neighbourhood Vets recently, so a vets practice might be an idea. Or Celia Hammond as an alternative to Battersea. Alternatively there are a lot of interesting charities around Southwark & Lambeth.
