  1. God that must be annoying. Could it be something connected to rise and fall of the wind? Vibration of metal sheeting (for example) causing high pitched sound maybe? Any engineers etc out there?
  2. Did you see the recent BBC series Rome Unpacked? If not the episodes and link to OU info about Rome is available at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09l64hd They showed some very interesting, accessible art (often off the beaten track) and areas which you might find interesting. You can download a free OU booklet on Rome at http://www.open.edu/openlearn/romeunpacked
  3. Hi Penguin, Yes, on further research it appears that someone is using a shorthand rather than the full address which is resulting in confusion for deliveries, post and taxis. I have written a note on the parcel for the resident requesting they use the full address. I will try the sorting office as well. Really don't want to be losing my mail etc.! Hopefully it will sort itself out if the full address is used.
  4. Dear James, I have just posted in the General section regarding two no 8 Underhill Rd with two postcodes - http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1905185 I am rather concerned that, although 8 Underhill Rd SE22 0AH is a longstanding address at the low numbers end of Underhill, a second address has been created on Picketts Terrace SE22 0QR/9DX. Although the Post Office postcode finder quotes the full address as 8 Picketts Terrace, 242 Underhill Road, LONDON, SE22 9DX, I have received a parcel for 8 Underhill Rd SE22 0QR and it has caused some confusion with taxi drivers who have gone to the wrong address in the past. I was wondering whether this was something you would be able to look into please. With kind regards, Ilona
  5. Whilst that might be the case, SE22 0QR has set up a postal address (I think in a new build) for 8 Underhill Rd next to a street sign for Picketts Terrace as far as I can tell from Google Street view ( ). All the low Underhill numbers are at the LL/Horniman end of Underhill (SE22 0AH). It is going to be very problematic for deliveries, taxis etc. On further research the postcode on the parcel appears to be wrong and should be SE22 9DX. Postcode finder records a longer address, but it does not appear to being used?
  6. I have recently become aware that there are now two addresses at '8 Underhill Road' with two different postcodes - SE22 0AH & SE22 0QR/9DX - and at opposite ends of Underhill. A taxi driver told me about it after he went to the wrong address by mistake and I have now had post for the other address delivered to me. I will repost it with a note to the post office. Surely it cannot be right for two addresses in the same road to have the same house number even with different postcode. I am hoping that deliveries for the residents at my address (4 flats) are not going to have misdirected mail etc.
  7. You could get some advice from ACAS ( http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=2042 ) - they offer advice by email and there is also a phone helpline.
  8. Hi Joseph, The Law Society has an online Find a Solicitor search engine and enquiry form on its website - http://solicitors.lawsociety.org.uk/ but it might not bring back relevant results due to the general areas you can search online. An alternative is to phone the helpline: 020 7320 5650 (Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00 charged at local call rates. With best wishes, Ilona
  9. Hi Joseph, Do you know the address of the person believed to have Romeo? You could try the RSPCA - maybe at HQ level - they do private prosecutions in cases of animal cruelty (although this used to be undertaken by private firms of solicitors, they may have in-house lawyers now) and they may be able to offer you some advice on both encouraging the police to follow up and alternative legal routes. If they are unable to help, maybe a solicitor could help (the Law Society could advise you on suitably experienced lawyers in the area). It must be incredibly painful and frustrating for you and your family. I hope the situation is resolved soon. With best wishes, Ilona

    Bags

I give my extra delivery bags to Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers (www.sdcas.org.uk) at the Copleston Centre. They use them for food [parcels for clients and don't get nearly enough since the charges came in.
  14. They need permanent flip chairs for the queue at the Post Office. It is a real issue for mobility-impaired visitors who cannot stand for long. I try to avoid the Post Office unless I see there is no queue, but at this time of year it is terrible. Alternatively people can provide their own seat for when they need it - there are tripod chair sticks which I find very handy for queues, bus stops etc. You can buy them on Amazon etc.

  18. Also, are you a leaseholder or a freeholder? If a f/holder, are you an outright freeholder or a shared freeholder part of a Freehold company (ie in a house of flats each sharing the freehold)? Your lease or company articles might have a lot to say about what you can and can't do in your property. re: loadbearing vs stud walls - always err on the side of caution and get someone in who knows what they're doing.

  21. As a former military dog handler/trainer jimlad48 maybe you can give us a fuller picture of the usual procedures etc. Although the article appears to have had input from experienced military dog handlers, it would be very helpful to have a fuller picture.

    Junk Mail

I usually recycle everything except the free eye test vouchers which I give to a local day centre for clients (www.sdcas.org.uk).
  24. ... dropped off a parcel to Underhill Rd which had been wrongly delivered to them in another road completely. It was much appreciated and terribly kind of you. As the 'We missed you' card had been delivered to their neighbour, I would never have known had they not taken time out of their busy day to deliver it.
