  2. I saw a guy in a balaclava in Camberwell recently - Coldharbour Lane. I thought it was some fashion and looked the other way - he walked straight past me (no obvious threatening action made though).

Maybe poor receptionist is last to be told.

When I was young I'd seek someone out with the gravitas to help take revenge - and I'm amazed how many of my friendships started like that - I never ever told them of course (remember when we bumped into each other, well .....) and revenge never happened. Edit: (I just realised I described forming a gang :) )

It seems strange - but I'd demand an apology if someone in my own community did that. Otherwise I could never let it go.

With the changes in politics I can't see that rule lasting long (compared to the other draconian stuff headed our way). Anyway going home before I get angry about these scumbags.

The locals comment ... I suppose being someone who wanders around late at night alone 3-4 times a week, often a bit worse for wear I should be a huge target but never have been (touch wood) and have grown to assume that over the years. I won't stop going out alone either, and anyone walking around here would count as local (or maybe I'm just lucky). I just really don't think the perpetrators come from this area and hopefully they'll be removed from the streets.
  8. That's terrible, I always thought the proper gangs around here don't mug locals (not that I'd know).

Rejoice. Trump has done one Presidential speech and the Lords voted for a small amendment to Brexit. We're saved and M&S has come :)

  11. When I was in Kings for a few weeks it was nice to walk (with drip behind) to the little shop to buy something. Now there might be two :)
  12. Google I did and the first result from Leicester Uni "Students should not be doing each other?s assessed work. Students often help each other and share ideas (which is ok) but if their work is too similar they both lose marks for copying!" So I wouldn't show my work but I'd be happy to talk about it - a bit of a compromise for nice people :).

Racism is such a difficult word I use hate speech or hate crime now.

  17. Glad to here that, all the best. Our old Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis had something which meant he could collapse on the pitch and when it happened it scared everybody.
  18. Why does every news site in the US and UK have this. is it some kind of newspaper bandwidth test ?

    Rugby matters

I'd hope that if Team A (Italy) get knocked back by Team B's (England's) forwards at the tackle area because no ruck is formed then they'll revert to putting men in the rucks or try something else ? Gatland's done the 15 man line-out with Wales (we lost the line-out I think) :( Edit: Memory is a strange thing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tZ4kzMnino

Apparently there is a local offside (a few feet around the tackle) But not for the backs loitering I''d just have gone straight to pick and drive until the Italians put players in - it's not just Wales who can't think outside the plan then :)

Does intent matter in hate speech - genuine question as the law is below ? I suppose the important phrase is "having regard to all the circumstances" I would always give the perpetrator an opportunity to apologise first anyway if possible "A person who uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or displays any written material which is threatening, abusive or insulting, is guilty of an offence if? (a) they intend thereby to stir up racial hatred, or (b) having regard to all the circumstances racial hatred is likely to be stirred up thereby."
  23. stringvest Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > b) Tell them I'm deaf and waste their time making > them repeat all the questions over and over This is even better if prefaced by "You What" As it really annoys people.

Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As an aside, I found it amazing how many people on > EDF didn't think the Jeremy Clarkson "lazy Irish > **** " assault was racially aggravated, yet > calling someone a terrorist, with no mention of > country or race, is. It's covered by the equality act in the UK (used to be race relations act), but many people seem to call any prejustice against white people non racist (and this seems to be taught in University courses in the US as far as I can tell - from so many twitter users quoting it). Irish is definitely a 'protected status' under the equality act in the UK due to history so Clarkson should have been held to account IMHO. But more generally I know many white male people (including myself) find it hard to be offended by 'anti white' remarks in the same way as someone from a race with a history of oppression (somebody said 'stupid white boy' at me the other day when I did something really stupid and I didn't exactly feel abused - maybe I should have ?).
