former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Siduhe replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Southwark do an annual giveaway of bags of salt so that residents can grit their own paths/drives/access - it's a great service and designed exactly for these sort of occasional but extreme bouts of weather. However, they do a very poor job of promoting the days when the salt is available. I only know about it because our local councillors are good enough to post on here from time to time. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/street-care/gritting -

I still had a bag of salt from 2 years ago when Southwark gave them out to residents for free so I salted my path and the pavement outside. Did they offer the same this year? If so, I missed it, but it was a really good initiative. -
The Thames Water incident map also shows a large area from the top end of Lordship Lane (Library up towards Forest Hill) which is said to have no water/low pressure due to faulty equipment and leaks, both of which are being worked on. Not sure if that would also affect the rest of SE22.

Suggestions for sun shades for bi fold doors - advice pls
Siduhe replied to nixter42's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We have Perfect Fit type blinds from the London Blind Company in a light white material on each bi-fold which open "bottom up" so you can set them halfway up the doors to block out the sun. Expensive but brilliant - we've had ours for over 10 years. -

rahrahrah, completely agree. On the Boris Bikes, as I understand it, the reason we don't have them is because Southwark wouldn't pay for an extension to here/docking stations. It would be great if they would look at this again. https://www.citymetric.com/transport/why-south-east-london-doesnt-have-boris-bikes-805

There was a thread a few weeks about about an extension company allegedly doing exactly this in ED. No idea if it is the same matter, but the summary is very similar. If the extension company has screwed up, it's equally awful for both sets of neighbours.

O2 has been worse than usual for several months now, due (I was told when I complained) to ?upgrade works?.

There are still textile recycling points in Lewisham - so disappointing that Southwark has basically stopped other than at the central depot. Two Lewisham points close to ED are on the small housing estate on Wood Vale near FHR and Sydenham Hill (Google Maps has it as no 38 SH).

Yes. Reported around 10am and it is due to repair work elsewhere. Now mostly back to normal.

2 x 8 Underhill Rd with different postcodes
Siduhe replied to IlonaM's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I feel for you - we had a similar issue when our house was built as we are one of the last houses on our street and there is a block of flats with the same number as our house which is next door to us, but technically its address is on the street which runs perpendicular to ours - so the numbers are the same and the houses are right next door to each other but we are on different streets if that makes sense. Deliveries, pizzas, bills and even Southwark Council kept getting the two properties confused for the first couple of years but it hardly even happens now. Only when someone new moves into the block of flats and then only for a couple of weeks. Hopefully yours will be sorted when the other person starts using the full address. -
Here's a few online resources - not a lot of detail but you might want to contribute on some of these? http://www.brockleyse4.co.uk/category/harp-club/ http://transpont.blogspot.co.uk/2007/04/venue-pre-history.html https://www.southlondonclub.co.uk/blog/a-brief-history-of-the-venue-in-new-cross

Mine is double that but we have some specific items insured, a high level of cover and a non-standard roof, so it's at the high end of what most people expect to pay round here.

For those of us who live nearby and very much wanted the site brought back into use for the local community - pub, restaurant, community centre - this is good news! Better than the initial plan for flats anyway, I think.

Have you looked at the Lambeth and Southwark Older Person's Information Directory - https://www.ageuk.org.uk/lewishamandsouthwark/activities-and-events/ ? As it says, the directory was originally created to make it easier to find services for people with dementia. It's not the easiest to navigate, but this looks like the most relevant section for you - http://directory.ageuklambeth.org.uk/Pages/Subjects?KC=456

I did say I'd videoed the truck going off, but the chap said they need to witness it themselves. That may suggest he's aware of this thread and following the complaints. Anyone else who has this problem may prefer to call the Noise Team before posting.

Thanks DF. This one did not fly, just scuttled off to hide in the cracks in the shelving. I may have got it, but not sure. Am going to take further steps this evening..just frustrated that I didn't even think to check there before.

Sue, I sympathise. I found a female moth this morning in my airing cupboard where it has been happily over-wintering and probably laying a tonne of eggs around the house. I thought I'd finally got on top of the little buggers. Bah!

What makes East Dulwich special - your input needed!
Siduhe replied to eastDAG's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
According to this, dated 1 Nov 2017, the Southwark High Street Challenge is now closed. This could well be a project that was approved before the project closed but it would be useful to know what specific project that was approved this is for. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/business/support-for-high-streets?chapter=2 -
@lavender27 - usually it means ?Original Poster? - the person who starts the thread.

I'd be interested to know what happens if your street is one of the new ward boundaries - like Belvoir and Melford Roads. Do they split the street down the middle so that one side of the street is in one ward, and the other side in a different ward - or is the whole street in one ward?
