I agree that it's important for everyone who can to limit the amount of deliveries they receive at home by car or van - by which I mean ordering less for delivery and choosing providers who deliver in an eco-friendly way. Also that there are plenty of people for whom this is simply not an option, and plenty of things that you need delivered in a truck or van (can't see a washing machine on the back of a cargo bike with the best will in the world). I made a conscious decision to try and wean myself off Amazon a while back - I'm not 100% successful but I've massively cut down. The only things we get delivered regularly are: Riverford - meat and veg delivered in an electric van; Freddies Flowers - cargo bike; and Dabbadrop - cargo bike. I'm the first one to criticise the way I think the LTNs have been implemented and the adverse impacts they are having on some, but the fact is we all need to make changes to the way we do things regardless of whether the LTNs stay, are changed in some way or go. And those of us that have the ability to be able to choose better suppliers need to do it now.

63 Bus: no service to Forest Hill Road
Siduhe replied to FredCasa's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Looked like they were backfilling the hole when I cycled past at 8.30am so suspect the work may have gone up the priority list (especially if they were working at night). -

It's two issues - there is a big leak on Wood Vale - yes, on the site of the recently replaced water main. Having seen the quality of the Thames Water work at the junction of Melford and Underhill where they replaced the water main and in doing so cracked the gas main (then covered it up and left it like that causing months of further works), I'm not surprised. The closure of Peckham Rye looks to be a burst pipe - as far as I know not one that has recently been replaced. This is what's affecting the 63 and 363. -
From memory, the pedestrian priority sign was added by the council at the request of local people who felt that cyclists were speeding through the junction and causing risk for pedestrians by not slowing or stopping. Don't think it was a formally approved signage process but something added to remind people to take care.

Worth having a look at this thread - there is a long term issue with a key mast that has been down since 2019 (with no signs of being fixed) in the area which does affect call stability and quality. The general view is that EE is least affected but someone posted recently that Vodafone was now working well. I know that O2 is heavily affected and so I have wifi calling enabled at home which helps, but I wouldn't recommend it for mobile signal in this area. /forum/read.php?5,2167941,2167941#msg-2167941

I will add my own observation of driving down EDG at around 3pm yesterday for the first time in ages. Before anyone has me down as some kind of tin-foil hat wearing LTN denier, I posted pretty extensively when the Court Lane LTN went in and it had a significant adverse impact on the roads I live and cycle on (Underhill, Melford, Wood Vale) - I thought then and I still think that the way that Southwark has gone about the implementation and the lengths it is going to justify is pretty appalling in terms of process and engagement. But I did come on here about four months ago and say - actually, traffic has really dropped off and it's better to walk and cycle than it was. Jury's still out if that is more about the epic Thames Water works which are still ongoing, but I'm more than willing to say that it could well be the impact of the Court Lane LTN. So consider me in the cautiously optimistic camp as regards the Court Lane LTN. The same cannot be said of EDG. I was genuinely shocked at the weight of queueing, static traffic - bumper to bumper at 3pm yesterday. Didn't seem to be particularly made up of school run parents vs other kinds of traffic but this is probably the first time I've driven down EDG in 18 months as opposed to crossing it on a bike, so for me the impact was really in my face and a massive change from what I have seen in the past. I don't understand how anyone can seriously say that - even if that only lasts for a couple of hours - it isn't a serious adverse impact on the people who live and work on EDG. By all means come on here and say you think that overall the benefit to other areas of the LTNs is worth the damage and adverse impact on EDG - I don't agree but I understand how some people can take that position. But continually posting that it's not that bad really doesn't seem to have much empathy or understanding of how much of a change in patterns there appears to have been.

Don?t know if it is open on Mondays but Kartuli is a bit different - not fancy dining but the food is good and it?s in an interesting space. Not a buzzy/trendy atmosphere - more friendly family neighbourhood restaurant. Try Yama Momo or Forza Wine if trendy is more your thing - though I find YM a bit ?? personally.

In which case, I feel I should issue an immediate and unreserved apology to him, as the block has now been lifted... ;-)

Royal Mail..parcels not being delivered

Glad to hear you got it sorted Sue - as I mentioned on the other thread - my memory is that it's a banned word on this forum because of a spate of spam trainer ads a while back. -
Because the banned keywords only apply in the forums that the spammers frequent from memory. I don't think a banned keyword would prevent someone using it in a username, only typing it into the posting box and posting it. And some of the words are really random - kitchen was banned for a while - but it's all about trying to keep the forum spam free, so I'm grateful! Glad to hear my memory isn't failing me after all.
-
Sue, try it without ?Adidas? - I may be completely off track but I seem to remember a load of spam trainer ads a while back. I wonder if that is a banned word?

Try Freecycle also.

Frontages on F H Road shopping parade

Frontages on F H Road shopping parade

It looks to be related to this: https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/corporate-strategy/article-4-direction-class-e/ National changes to planning rules that the Government is bringing in allow developers permitted rights to change building uses which are currently within Class E (commercial, business and service) to change to use Class C3 (residential) without needing planning permission. Local councils can prevent those permitted development rights applying automatically, using something called an Article 4 direction. Per Southwark's summary "An Article 4 Direction can be used to remove specific permitted development rights in all or parts of the local authority?s area. It would not restrict development altogether, but instead ensure that development requires planning permission." So short answer is, this stops developers from turning the Forest Hill Road shops into residential accommodation without first seeking planning permission. -
Updated to say that a neighbour has moved their car and traffic is now flowing again, but it's still pretty busy. To be fair, I'm not sure that opening up Court Lane and the Village Junction would help the 197, 185 and 176 get through to Forest Hill from LL, but it definitely means that the only available route for all traffic right now is around these streets. I didn't enjoy leaving the house on my bike today.

Just a heads up that Lordship Lane is closed between the Court Lane and the Grove Tavern, I think due to a traffic accident (judging by number of ambulances early this am). As a consequence, all buses and traffic are being diverted around Melford and Underhill (where there are traffic works) and as a result it is carnage. Two double decker buses coming opposite ways have been stuck opposite each other on Melford for about 15 mins as they can't get past the parked cars and can't reverse. Avoid if possible.

Do you mean that when you search in google, the EDF isn't coming up as a first hit? If so, that's a known issue - see here: /forum/read.php?5,2218871,2220525 It's partly because the Facebook group (which is trading off this forum) is promoting themselves on Google as the EDF and partly because of the way the forum is set up. Although I thought that had been fixed - at least for me if I go onto Google and search for "East Dulwich Forum", this site comes back at the top again. Best advice is to bookmark the EDF rather than search for it. Otherwise you need to post in the About this Forum section - /forum/list.php?12 That's the best place to contact Admin.

Southwark dropped kerb road safety audit
Siduhe replied to donm101's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don?t have a recommendation but here are a couple of firms that seem to have the right capability and should cover London: https://mayerbrown.co.uk/our-expertise/road-safety/ https://capitalroadsafety.com/ There is also a register of a particular type of certified provider here: https://www.theihe.org/registers/road-safety-auditors-register/ More if you search ? road safety audit provider london? -
A few reasons that posts get deleted: Posting in the wrong forum - if you are advertising business services in the main ED forum rather than the business section, your posts will first get moved and then deleted if it happens regularly; Not following the rules for business posts which are here - /forum/read.php?30,642847 - the one that a lot of posts get deleted on is not including a business address; Bumping posts, posting fake reviews or recommending yourself. Hope this helps.

On the residents tickets it was a bit different this year. Gala made 25% of the Friday tickets available to residents for ?20 + booking fee. You had to send proof of address to an email. See here - https://thisisgala.co.uk/information/ malumbu, put yourself on their mailing list and you will get notified when tickets go on sale. I had tickets held over from last year that were for the main festival on Sat - when they made a much smaller number of residents tickets available but they were for the "main" event. I can also see both sides of the argument re noise - it didn't seem particularly loud nearby and I think Gala had done a lot to try and manage the issue, but sounds travels in mysterious ways. The thump of the bass from the Horniman event was much louder for us than the Gala event. But I very much take the point about Friday being a working day and more disruptive for residents.

It?s open now. Just walked past. Looks like a great selection. No idea on prices.

I would say that's normal where you have a small team and have agreed measures in place not to damage the site (normally a max number of vehicles, or max size of vehicles] - you can certainly do it more quickly with more people, bigger trucks, more activity, but it all causes more inconvenience to other users of the area and more damage to the site. I've got no connection to Gala but some friends run a small festival of comparable size where they have the whole site (not a part of it, so no fencing required) and it takes them a week on site to set up.
