  1. It's the BT Dulwich Exchange - serves all our landlines and broadband in the local area. It's not unused, there's plenty of plant and machinery in the building. Someone is there most days (or at least there's a van parked up) but they upped security of the building after the last time it got taken over by travellers, so it looks pretty boarded up now.
  2. I know the local councillors have raised this a number of times - but there still seems to be an impasse as to long term use between Southwark (social care or affordable housing) and the Dulwich Estate (rather less affordable housing) with the added complication that the relevant pubco is still a tenant and has overall responsibility for the property. The last time I asked about the pub (it comes up regularly at ward meetings), I was told that there were discussions about using the car park as temporary coach parking for some of the local schools, but since then the Grove DIY skate park project has taken off there, so I very much hope that won't be moved on, simply to accommodate the needs of (mostly) private schools. Edited to add - they also have live-in guardians on site, not all the time but every now and then, presumably to manage the risk of squatters. I realise the skate park also doesn't look very fancy either, but it's an amazing community effort, and the kids who skate there work really hard to keep it clean and tidy, not disturbing of neighbours and open to everyone.
  3. Like, I suspect, a lot of people - I signed up for a postal vote this year after Southwark sent out letters suggesting that we all do this to help with Covid-19 issues for the upcoming local/mayoral elections. At the time the post was ok after a poor period over Christmas and into Jan/Feb, but I'm massively regretting it now that it's getting bad again. What's the betting that half of the postal voting forms don't even arrive until after the election?
  4. The Leasehold Advisory Service is a great resource - see here for example: https://www.lease-advice.org/article/major-works-and-consultation-under-section-20-of-the-landlord-tenant-act-1985-a-brief-guide-to-your-rights/#:~:text=Payment-,What%20are%20major%20works%3F,lease%20through%20the%20service%20charge.
  5. I think the most telling part of the new report on CPZs (which does roll back considerably from the previous position that CPZs would be put in place borough wide) is page 11. Notwithstanding the updated timetable which says that CPZs in Dulwich Village, Dulwich Wood and Dulwich Hill will be considered as part of the wider impact of LTNs - if you look at the map on page 11 it says "Programme subject to discussion with councillors" (not "Not Currently Programmed" as it does for other areas). So there's still a central Southwark CPZ program planned for those wards but it's subject to further discussion (not necessarily consultation with residents). So something else that people really need to be engaging with their ward representatives on (whether they are pro or anti a CPZ in their area).

Really Maria on Lordship Lane was doing on-line classes a while back - would be worth speaking to her maybe? https://www.reallymaria.com/online-classes.irc
  7. Just to say that the link to sign up to receive Southwark comms relating to Dulwich, East Dulwich and Champion Hill review process has been updated to expand the list of streets you can select as part of the drop down list to include some core streets in Dulwich Hill/Dulwich Wood, including Overhill/Underhill/Melford/College Road. https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/dulwich-review-registration-form/
  8. Underhill and Melford (and possibly other streets) have been added over the weekend. I know a few people emailed the Dulwich Hill/Dulwich Wood councillors about it, so that?s good news!
  9. Just to echo what is said above, if the list of streets given reflects the core area for review - it confirms the fairly limited scope of review which was initially proposed by the Council, and doesn't include the key roads in Dulwich Hill/Dulwich Wood which have consistently reported significant impacts from the Court Lane LTN, and where councillors said these roads should now be included in the consultation area (although Council Officers then said to me there were no plans to do so). You can pick "Other" and give your road, but it's not clear what weight will be given to "other" roads and there is a suggestion that their feedback will need to be balanced against the feedback from within the core area. I really do encourage anyone in these non-core areas who feels they have been impacted (positively or negatively) to sign up. I still firmly believe there is a middle path here (i.e. not getting rid of all LTNs and going back to how things were) but Southwark will only move towards some of those middle path options (like actual proper monitoring on displacement streets) if enough people tell them their experiences.
  10. Try the Items Wanted In East Dulwich or the For Sale & Items Offered in ED parts of the Forum?
  11. Steven, is that you??? ;-)
  12. You can sign up for a vaccination appointment direct on the government website if you are eligible (and it will tell you if you are eligible) - https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/coronavirus-vaccine/ but you do need an NHS number.
  13. The report has been removed from the agenda but the item is still on for discussion.
  14. Couldn't agree more with this. My own perception is that the majority of people on this thread are not opposed to LTNs on principle, but many are frustrated with the way that Southwark is going about these specific experimental LTNs (including me). Which is why the inflammatory language and the unwillingness to engage in the experience of these specific LTNs (on both sides - pro and anti) is also pretty frustrating. Almost everyone I've spoken to on this thread who is pro the current experimental measures seems to agree that proper consultation and proper monitoring is key to the success of these measures. Currently, we're getting very mixed messages from Southwark about what the consultation will look like, whose views will count and what area will be consulted, and it's a similar picture for the monitoring. As someone who lives on a street where there have been multiple people reporting adverse effects (including for residents, pedestrian and cyclists) from the Court Lane closure, all I want is some proper consultation and proper monitoring including in the streets that appear to be experiencing adverse effects. I don't think that's unreasonable, but Southwark won't currently commit to it. So please don't tar all of us who are raising questions with being backward, SUV drivers who don't care about the environment. As I've said before, if more people who support the current experimental measures were pressing Southwark for this sort of transparent consultation and monitoring, I think we'd all be in a much better position to move forward. But for so long as anyone who is pressing for this can be categorised as an anti-LTN stalwart (which is Southwark's main response to those of us who keep raising it), it's way too easy for them to divide and conquer in our community. This thread being a prime example.
  15. Lou, based on what you've said in here - I would look at something called the doctrine of legitimate expectations. Basically it is a legal principle that a local authority should exercise its powers in a consistent way - so not give one person a benefit if it treats others differently in the same situation. It's obviously a bit more complicated than that, and I'm not saying if it is or isn't applicable in your situation, but it may be worth looking at and perhaps incorporating into your submissions, if applicable.
  16. For those who are interested, here is the timeline for CPZs to be extended throughout Southwark. Presumably this overrides the previous "no area that doesn't want a CPZ will have one imposed on it" position.
  17. And you can order a set of Garden Waste bags to tide you through the period before you can subscribe for next year. We only have a small terrace so use this service all year and it works pretty seamlessly. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/garden-waste-collection-subscriptions?chapter=2
  18. There is a Dawsons Hill Community Orchard Initiative - I wonder if it's something to do with them? If so, they are fairly active, although the last few community pruning days have had to be cancelled due to Covid. https://www.theorchardproject.org.uk/what-we-do/project-a-celebration-of-orchards/orchard-profiles/dawsons-hill-orchard/

  20. I think it's likely to be a reference to recent news articles like this: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9257365/Are-Britains-lost-parcels-really-auctioned-eBay.html But it's not a new phenomenon - see this from 2007: [link deleted due to malware concerns]
  21. The fact they haven't updated the reference to the Data Protection Act 2018 which came into force on 28 May 2018 probably tells you something about their overall approach...
  22. It reminds me of my first encounter with a commercial drone a few years ago. We were in a 9th floor meeting room with windows facing onto the street, discussing some sensitive HR issues with a big presentation on screen, when we heard a "whirr" and saw a shadow cross the windows. Didn't think much about it, then it happened again, so a couple of us went out of the meeting room to a place we could look down and saw three guys and a van standing looking up at our windows. They were totally bemused when we came marching out asking what the f**k they were doing, and it turned out they were a local video production company with offices near us, playing with a new toy, but when they showed us the footage they'd got just by doing a flyby, it was completely crystal clear of what we had up on screen (and yes, they deleted it). But it really made me think and I'm much more cautious about keeping curtains and blinds open at home as a result.
  23. Hi sorry to hear this - you might want to post this in the Lost and Found section, as that's the most likely place for someone to look or post about a found phone.
  24. Can we please keep this thread to what it was intended for - a useful place to share information about actual side effects suffered by actual people who have had an actual vaccine. There's an existing thread in the Lounge for all the discussion about those wish not to take it and would like the rest of us to either do the same or validate their decision (and/or just sh*t stir with increasingly wild anti-vac theories that have no basis in fact)

That is for the replacement of the water main/pipe down Wood Vale and Melford Road by Thames Water - the works actively started late November and are scheduled to finish mid-March (with a three week break over Christmas). To be fair, it has been a mammoth job to do and keep the roads open and I'm very glad that they will be finished soon so we can get back to a more regular water supply and less drilling.
