I read it as ?7.50 per ticket (in advance) + a ?0.50 postage fee per order. So ?8 for 1 ticket, ?15.50 for two, ?23.00 for three, etc. ?10 per ticket at the gate, as you say.

  3. I would be surprised if it is only one outlet that is affected. I was told by Lloyds Fraud Investigation service, that the cloners tend to move into an area with a reasonable concentration of supermarkets, corner stores, off-licences and petrol stations and then target several of those types of business for a short period to maximise returns, before moving onto the next area. They also tend to move themselves/equipment out of an area before selling on any of the details according to Lloyds, so it's unlikely to be anyone working in a shop now. This is all part of my ongoing discussions with Lloyds over their refusal to report the cloning of my card to the police. Their approach is basically there isn't any point because the damage has been done and there's no sensible and cost-effective way to investigate given the nature of the crime.
  4. The suggestion was meant genuinely, but haven't tried it myself. Would be interested to know if works.
  5. We have a similar problem with squirrels coming and digging up our beds. A friend of ours who is a landscape gardener has recommended covering the bed with slate chips - apparently they hate walking on it and won't dig through it. Otherwise, I'm saving for one of these!

My understanding is that the details are normally uploaded (within a very short period) to sites where people trade in credit card and other details. Purchasers buy in bulk batches on the basis that a number of the details won't work. I'm very confident I know where my card was cloned (only attempted, they got my pin wrong) as the card was almost brand new. Also, I remember thinking at the time it was odd that the attendant took my card out and flipped it over once I'd done the chip and pin. I thought he was checking the signature, but I now believe it's much more likely he was trying to memorise the CVV number on the back. Certainly the last attempted transaction used the CVV number but got other personal details wrong, so the transaction was rejected. That said, I agree with you - we can't know for sure which shops are affected, but there is certainly a trend which people can usefully be aware of. I am now totally paranoid about entering my pin anywhere, much to the amusement of others around me!

And I know it's not exactly in the virtual spirit of the forum, but there are probably enough of us with the game for everyone to join in - we could have at least 2 people come round to us, if they have their own controllers.
  9. Count me in. As one of the originators of the idea, I should say that it's largely because I am fed up of getting nudged off the track by 10 year old French children when I do the "continent race". Also, because I am rubbish and normally play at midnight after a bottle of red wine... mp - Play.com served up Mario Kart for us in 48 hours, no problems.

PeckhamRose Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- If you are legally riding someone else's vehicle and cause an accident or break the law somehow, it's you not the owner of the vehicle in trouble, right?. Not necessarily, but it depends heavily on the particular circumstances. If someone has an accident whilst driving your car and causes damage to something or someone, the insurer of the car can be required to pay any successful claim that is made against the driver (if for example the driver doesn't have insurance or cannot be traced) as an "Article 75 Insurer". The insurer can then claim the money it has had to pay out from either the driver of the car or the holder of the policy depending on the precise circumstances. If you're talking about a PCN or similar, it is the owner of the car that is ultimately liable regardless of whether you were driving or not.
  11. The Telegraph has some good photos from as far away as Brighton. My other half was just outside London and said the lightning looked amazing across the rolling hills of Surrey... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/picturegalleries/earth/2515652/Summer-lightning-over-southern-England.html
  12. I read it as "ability to develop the skills of people who directly report into the role I'm applying for"
  13. The trains from Peckham Rye to Blackfriars stop at Elephant and Castle and you can always get on them (sometimes, you can even get a seat!), even in rush hour. At least 3 trains an hour and takes about 10 mins.

  15. Funnily enough, had looked back at that thread very recently as was woken up at 00:13 a few days by a very noisy, low flying plane and wanted to try and work out where it had come from. My best guess is that is was a late outward flight from City (propeller not jet) as it was too big to be a private aircraft. found the observations in that thread very helpful - good to know we have so many informed people in ED (and one of the things I really like about the forum).
  16. There was a long thread about this a while back - see here. Worth trawling through as some very good explanations, but if I recall correctly Heathrow mixes up the approach path so one area gets the noise for a while, then they swap to another area and so on. It's also particularly noisy around here because the planes are descending/coming out of stacking or something like that, so they have air brakes on (this you will appreciate is not a very techical summary) which make the loud whining noise you sometimes hear. You can have fun tracking the Heathrow planes here, but sadly no equivalent for London City that I can find. Hopefully they will start one up when the suggested 50% increase in traffic into City kicks in. I definintely find ED a lot noiser for planes than where I used to live (in SE1). However, there are a lot less helicopters trawling up and down the Thames which used to drive me nuts, so I guess it evens out overall.
  17. You can sometimes fix an airlock in a domestic system by blocking the water flowing out of some of the taps in your house, which ups the pressure in the system and can blow through the airlock. I've seen someone do it by using a garden hose connector and sealing the hose with a clip to block off the kitchen tap, then turn it on full blast (cold). However, if the problem tap is upstairs, you might need to block off more than one tap. Also, if the pressure blows off the blocking connector - could get a bit wet! May be worth a try if you have suitable kit around.
  18. From the Thames Water site: So I guess the question is, is this a larger "strategic" main (in which case no compensation) or a normal one (in which case do we get ?20 per household - the wording is not exactly clear)? I have a feeling I know what Thames Water will say to me...
  19. When I spoke to Thames Water last night, they said that part of the problem is that as they replace some of the old mains (as they're doing all over the place at the moment) it puts extra pressure on the old, unreplaced systems. And if one main bursts, it is not unusual for another one to go in the same general area. We went past the one which had gone in Merton/S. Wimbledon this afternoon as it happens . The thing that I found a bit annoying was Thames Water marking the SE22 problem as "fixed" at 11:59 last night, when in fact they weren't able to switch the water back on until the pipes had been disinfected at 7:30am. Apparently, if it's not fixed "within day", the amount of compensation they have to pay to customers (if customers ask for it) goes up quite a bit...
  20. bignumber5 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > seems to be getting worse on cpr at plough end... Agree with this - we've had very low pressure all day, but it's now completely off. Am hoping this means they've switched it all off to complete the final repairs, as they've been diverting water from other sources all day...
  21. It's a very rare day indeed when I find myself in agreement with Mr Jon Hunt, founder and former owner of Foxtons, but he recently said that we'll know when the fall is over when people stop talking about property prices, because they've become so boring a topic of discussion. Guessing from the amount of interest we have on the board to this and other threads, we may have a while to go yet.
  22. I also had a difficult and frankly bizarre experience when I tried to purchase something from this shop last year (assuming it is the same person described here - the owner). My conclusion at the time was that he didn't actually want to sell anything to anyone and must be independently wealthy (or he has another line of business which he uses to fund the fabric shop). To say that his customer services were lacking would be an understatement.
  23. Not SE22, but still in Southwark. Had a lovely afternoon a couple of years ago eating homemade Turkish flatbreads and houmous, listening to an amazing concert band.
  24. Flying Ant Day indeed. Growing up, was always told that the young queen and male ants will all take to the skies in their "nuptial flight" with a few days of each other in any given area. Will be over in a week or so.

I'm not sure whose legal responsibility it is, but I called Southwark Council environmental line in a similar situation and they came and cut the hedge/overhanging tree back (from the pavement) without any questions.
