  1. i'm with mockney - 1962 for that glimmer in the eye. wh's your 2007 pick then? without any bias i'm going for London.
  2. i must say i stopped as i only smoked when in the CPT watching football - and I hated not being able to breathe in there when it was a busy winters night. i always said i wouldn't stop because the government forced me to, but meh! and i'm running instead (see sponsorship) and feel a bazillion times better as a result.

    a joke

An Englishman, a Scotsman and an Irishman were sitting in a bar. The view was fantastic, the beer excellent, and the food exceptional. "Y'ken," said the Scotsman, "I still prefer the pubs back home. Why, in Glasgow there's a wee bar called McTavish's. Now, the landlord there goes out of his way for the locals; so much that when you buy 4 drinks, he will buy the 5th drink for you." "Well," said the Englishman, "at my local, The Red Lion, the barman there will buy you your 3rd drink after you buy the first two." "Ahhh, that's nuttin," said the Irishman. "Back home in Dublin there's Ryan's Bar. Now, the moment you set foot in the place they'll buy you a drink, then another, all the drinks you like. Then, when you've had enough drinks, they'll take you upstairs and see that you get laid. All on the house." "Well," said the Englishman "did this actually happen to you?" "Not me myself, personally, no," said the Irishman, "but it did happen to me sister".
  4. surreal is absolutely the word for it, i couldn't work out if it was a very clever act or if they were as mad as they made out!
  5. whoa - a hit! marvel all of you at my spam filtering nose!
  6. I'm not sure there is Brendan - isn't this just the well-worn argument about ED staying the same or progressing towards claphamdom? some people want it to gentrify and some want it to stay the same. gentrifying means moving new people in and old people out. I don't think DD has been offensive, he's just stuck his neck out for which option he prefers. I'm neutral by the way
  7. hmm, maybe not, no multiple nappy posts. it just seemed a bit 'cillit bang' - one of those things are distractingly annoying but get the message across as a result.
  8. does anyone else smell the faint whiff of spam?
  9. the latest Friday Cities newsletter (from the ex-The Friday Thing people) raises a contentious issue about our borough: WHICH BOROUGH HAS THE BEST LOOKING INHABITANTS? Out in East Dulwich last night, it struck me that, overall, East Dulwich does not appear to sport a particularly good-looking populace. Not as bad as Nunhead, obviously. But there is a grimy, potatoey sheen to most of the people you see on the streets of SE22. Now, I?m no Adonis myself. But there?s no doubt the inhabitants of some other areas of town are more consistently pleasing to the eye. On the Kings Road or on Battersea Rise, for example, the overall radiance of passer-bys ? male and female ? is high. Islington, too, isn?t bad. So is there a best looking borough? And why are some better than others? Is it just wealth or youth? - McCandelish Join the conversation: http://tinyurl.com/33aatj
  10. have i wandered into the lounge by miestake...?
  11. oh man, i just wriote a really long message trying to stop the lounging and it's not appeared. anyhoo, my 'downcast' pic was meant as a comment of despair at how people demand service with a capital 'serve' these days. this may be price related but I wonder if there was anything that bailey could have done to recitify the situation rather than leaving disgruntled and posting on here. my sense was that as there was not an immediate response to the complaint umbrage was taken and resentment created. was it impossible to sort out at the time? and you didn't even have to pay for it.
  12. she's just seen the bill!
  13. this whole thread serves as an illustration of how much east dulwich has changed
  14. *bob*: voice of reason - I've never worked out why I'm supposed to pay 5k for someone printing photos and holding keys. I've been to look at a few properties recently and the agents have been utterly useless - worse than useless in fact as they just agree with my comments.
  15. i had a meal there a few years back with some friends and remember a very crazy chef dude and his son do the waiting - i was a bit drunk, but they seemed drunker. did i imagine it all?
  16. I go across wandsworth bridge and head for hammersmith, but 45-60 mins is the minimum for any of these routes. There's no easy way out!
  17. my postie on Landells is great, he knocked the door the other day to tell me I'd left my keys in the lock.
  18. There's also the Oakwood midwives at the Forest Hill Road GP surgery. We've had them twice and they've been great both times, 3 midwives at each birth and tea and toast made for us afterwards.
  19. what, none of you went there?
  20. I noted that Heber school is 125 years old this year, having opened in 1882. I only know the current and recent past history of the place, I wondered if anyone else had any memories or stories of the school prior to the last 10 years or so.
  21. I think the blue mountain got it's rep from times when there was no other alternative.... but my partner has just entered the room, is reading over my shoulder and says i'm being negative and the BM is great because it's friendly and they do help you out if you have buggies and small children. and they do great cakes. and we should support them rather than starbucks. but jacks is good too. right she's gone, i think it's okay but nothing to write home about.
  22. Hi Jos, Pictures can help if you have any, the EDF has a pretty good hit rate with lost cats at the moment. Good luck with the search.
  23. I did watch it and it was quite interesting in the way it went through the timeline in excrutiating detail. My two-penneth: 1. The photo was up for about 4 seconds, nothing could be seen and it added nothing to the programme. It could easily have been dropped. 2. Diana was mercilessly hounded by the paps but did use them quite a lot to publicise herself. 3. If they'd been wearing seatbelts we wouldn't be having this discussion
  24. back at the start of this whole saga i thought it was the white company, so i'm quite happy with the white stuff, not bad clothes and there's really nowhere close (primark aside) that can lay that claim.

    seacow

i've been to both seacow recently and it seemed okay. although, having said that, the mushy peas last time were more runny than mushy. no reason not to go though.
