  1. Did anynone see the accident on LL last night about 4.30ish? It was down near the bishop, one car on the pavement one sideways on the road.
  2. Well, i do know of one that's reduced it's TAs, but that one didn't even take up the offer of a free one, so not so sure it's all about cash.
  3. A friend of mine lost her glove on a a bus, she called up the bus people who said they'd call her back, and they did saying they had found it. She went to the depot that evening and found that a) it was where they said it was b) it was open and staffed c) they had her glove. most unlike public services if you ask me.
  4. 1800m would be 1 mile and 208.5 yards. Where's that 1800m 'marked' cwld? edit: realbuzz says it's 1 miles and 70 yards. being pedantic here but 70 yards makes a difference to lap times.
  5. I heard someone say they were turning it into a Marks and Spencers? ;>

    a joke

Deplorable northern stereotype joke 2: What's the difference between a cow and a tragedy? A scouser wouldn't know how to milk a cow.
  7. My sense is there was an 'ED 2.0' wave that started around the Palmerston regeneration and ended with foxtons/white stuff moving in. I'd like a list of dates of places opening just to check my theory.
  8. I think i asked whether it could fulfil both functions and pointed out it would be a real flagship bringing loads of publicity for JDW. I have no designs myself on doing anything. The picture house in clapham has a small bar attached, this place seems large enough. Other bars, like the sun and doves, also seem to be able to show films so the licensing probably wouldn't be a problem. Perhaps the equipment and running costs would be prohibitive. Maybe it wasn't viable in the past but I'm guessing now there's more disposable 30-something income in the area than when it closed down.
  9. nice idea, what good use are you planning to put them to?
  10. modern life kalamitykel, it takes 5 minutes to get from the swing to the slide, so walking to the shops would take most of the day I'm afraid. there was a buggy that was designed to keep kids high up out of way of fumes. it looked most odd and ungainly and they didn't seem to have any evidence that the air quality 3 foot up is any better that that found at about 1.5 feet high.
  11. I know it's se23 but don't lounge me! Every day i go past the Capitol pub in forest hill and every day I think what a shame it is a cinema no more. It has fantastic architecture, a great location for us ED'ers (upper east side especially) and, er, well it wouldn't be that manky old pub any more. I know there's the multiplex and the ritzy near-by but it's such a prime location it's a wasted opportunity. So i dropped wetherspoons a line here: http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/feedback/product/suggestion.php#section-header and wondered if anyone wanted to do the same.
  12. sounds nice, i like the idea of a recipe thread, although they're a pain to type out. the best thing i had recently was a starter from a restaurant in surrey which combined black sausage and egg over a salad. it was top grub but i forgot to take a pic of it on the the menu. if anyone's seen something similar i'd be grateful for the details.
  13. yes, post no.3 of 3 about puffin crafts from yourself now.
  14. cryonics
  15. What's Barry Road like? it doesn't like anything, it's a road! (sorry, old paul merton joke) We've tried to move there twice and I've had reservations due to the busy road but friends who live there say it's not a problem. I do like the look of it too with the avenue of trees and the spire at the end.
  16. gosh, what a horrible thing to have to go through though, being doorstopped like that must have been gob-smacking. the article seems a bit confused to me, as if they realise half-way though that's it's not really newsworthy stuff. i bet they turned up salivating at the scoop and then found out you weren't the monster they wanted you to be. there's no such thing as bad publicity - good luck.
  17. ah, it's global wamring nero, throw away the cleaning gel and turn your heating down.
  18. it's not silly at all, i believe buddhists state that there are 2 equally moral or valid positions when it comes to keeping abreast of stuff. you can pay attention to the world and it's woes, involve yourself in it and do something about it. Or you can choose to ignore it all. to keep abreast of stuff and do nothing is where a lot of modern angst comes from.
  19. it seems like i've been constantly ill since september, if the current sore throat turns into anything it will be 4 for me, the last one being sinusitis which wasn't fun. solution? move out of the city.
  20. Lidl scam: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,27963,28191#msg-28191
  21. Welcome, You won't regret moving here. The post office can get very busy, as can they all, but there is a second one near the plough at the upper end of Lordship Lane which is less busy. edit: er, but don't ask about the postal service right now, bit of a touchy subject.
  22. there's another thread on the topic here: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,15153,15424#msg-15424 also contains a nasty incident in burgess park.
  23. okay? sorry, just trying to make this a bit more interesting. Has anyone got this barclaycard mail where they're going to change your card into an oyster card / credit card thingy? They're saying that unless they hear from me they're going to pass my details onto TFL and ther business partners - a scary prospect indeed. My O'Level commerce teaching was that silence is not acceptance, and as i haven't sgned anything saying they can pass my info on is this illegal?
  24. Edmummy, great point. my partner was angry at my earlier post as she thought that we shouldn't gossip about school problems but sort them out. It's true that scares about certain schools can lead parents to desert it which causes a snowbal effect making it harder to sort out the original problems. If every school had a good proportion of parents getting involved and supporting the system then there would be no bad schools.
  25. heber's improving, but slowly - not great on parent communication, school trips or sport thus far. getting a bit of a 'wish-we'd-chosen-goodrich' feel after a few years. can anyone explain why heber seems underfunded compared to goodrich? is it just a perception or is it to do with the parents associaton bringing in money?
