  1. I'd be interested in seeing the evidence base for these types of posters improving performance
  2. the ?60 is extended for the 1st appeal only, after the 2nd it goes up to ?120, I'm still appealing one from September last year
  3. they do usually state what time you were observed between, so betwen 1610 and 1615 on a yellow line 4eg. if he did it properly he'd have taken pics of your car and the signs, so you probably have a strong case.
  4. This was discussed on the radio the other day - posties fearing attack when delivering to certain areas with a high percentage from minority populations. Royal Mail's line was that they have to do it by law.
  5. Anxiety follows an 'inverted u' shape curve on a graph in terms of usefulness - a little is good, a lot is bad. We do live in a safe borough, which can breed complacency. I didn't think that muggings occurred at rush-hour times on main roads. If the OP had been about someone walking down a quiet road after dark then maybe it wouldn't be so useful. But it highlights something that not all of us may consider happens in this area, and so it is a reminder that we do live in London and should be a little bit more aware of our safety outside of what we might consider risky times/places.
  6. Is the last ED boozer going the way of all the others?
  7. I think you should trust most people right up until the point that they ask you for money. A quick straw poll - has anyone here ever been short of money for any reason and asked a complete stranger for help? I know we're a biased sample but i just wondered.
  8. I appreciate it is easier to criticise than stage an event but it wasn't my cup of tea. I felt it was more market than fair, I walked into the main bit with my 6 year old and walked out as there didn't seem to be anything to do but buy things. I'm sure there were a few more 'fair' type stalls last year - or am I thinking of some other event on the Green? This was more like North Cross road on a saturday.
  9. i note it's the queen's official birthday - anyone invited her?
  10. I note that the Nooks and Corners section of Private Eye has followed up their piece on the concrete house last month with a piece on the church opposite, after being pointed in that direction by 'a reader'. Was it a forum-ite I wondered? In a nut-shell it points to more foot-dragging by Southwark council over a listed building.
  11. "in field behind sainsburys" - or behind the abbotswood houses - there's a 3-4 story factory style building, you can see it from most angles, but best from the greendale pathway. I think this is it, hard to tell from above
  12. in more paranoid days I used to wonder whether that big building next to that green space was some sort of government establishment. maybe I was right, best get my tin-foil hat back on.
  13. "But rather in the sense of ordinary folk living ordinary lives, reaching out on to one another, on occasion, with humour, kindness and fellow-feeling" I would say in my experience that 9/10 people are like this really. It is our own fears - and any hype that feeds off that - that causes us to think otherwise. Mind you, I don't think this when I get on a crowded bus with my toddler.
  14. Clapham, battersea rise, wandsworth bridge, fulham rd, hammersmith
  15. where have you come from where are you going home postcode it took about 2 minutes chat with a TFL lady, no police involvement, didn't seem like a hardship.
  16. on a related fees issue how long does an agents contract last for? we saw a house ages ago and were interested in it but the whole crash thing put a kaibosh on the idea of moving and the house came off the market. we're back to thinking about moving again and I was going to knock on the door of the house and see if they were still interested in selling. would the original agent who showed us round have some claim for fees, even though the house has been off the market for some time?
  17. t-mobile is a bit shoddy, there's space in the corner of my kitchen and by the window in the dining room where I can get reception, but it seems to be carried on the wind as it disappeares without me moving. just got a new c905 and not that impressed with that either.
  18. it would have to been a bomb dropped from a zeppelin going by their dress
  19. Jeremy, Can you stay on topic please - this is an irrational, knee-jerk thread using half-baked ideas. If you want to post reasoned arguments can you please go elsewhere.
  20. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7896783.stm?lss
  21. it seems hard to tell as the few houses still on the market aren't really dropping their prices or selling.
  22. i'm 6 months into challenging a nursery drop-off ticket. 'escorted alighting' should be the challenge but Southwark weren't having it so I've gone to the independent adjudicator. I should hear next week if you're interested.
