Thanks Oh come on, what a daft response - parents being "exhausted, stressed, worrying about the baby sleeping, worrying about finances" etc. You don't need academic research to tell you that these things are hardly a 21st century malady. Some people behave as if having children has only just been invented!

Not all parents are like this of course but there are a significant number around who could do with being a little less selfish. The point of this guy's article is a relevant one but he could have made it more amusing.
  4. Learn how to wolf whistle and catch them before they catch you.
  5. Nice friendly approach there Jeremy. Give the poor guy a chance!
  6. Don't go for the back room at The Palmerston - it's often full of kids and is more or less a passageway to the lavs. Franklin's food is great but Le Chardon's atmosphere definitely more romantic/sexy.
  7. 176 all the way but very unpredictable if the traffic's bad. Asset's right. Overground East Dulwich to London Bridge then to Charing Cross. No other way is faster, I've tried them all!
  8. I LOVE bhel puri and dosas but can't stand sickly spicy nondescript meat dishes like you get in most anglicised Indian restaurants so food as Shaila describes would be very welcome. If we had something like Diwana (sp?) in Drummond Street they'd be packed all the time.
  9. Manor Place, off the Walworth Road.
  10. Allow an hour that time of day but it should take 45-50 mins.
  11. I love it! Only in East Dulwich would someone spit chai over a newsagent's window. What next? Will the drunks be swigging prosecco out of a brown paper bag on Lordship Lane?
  12. The Cheggers bit would be an excellent punishment for those with badly behaved kids!
  13. Methinks those with kids doth need to start respecting others.
  14. I support the rant to a degree. I have no problem with kids or parents per se but what drives me nuts is the fact that many people who have children seem to think it entitles them to disregard the comfort and wellbeing of others and confers upon them some sort of superior status. I think it owuld be a good idea for people to have to pass some sort of test before they have chldren. this would include, among other things, buggy steering skills, discipline protocols, noise control etc. If they fail the test they should be barred from procreation.
  15. The Flying Fish on Camberwell Church Street is absolutely the best place nearby, the batter's perfect and not too thick. It's also closer to ED than many of the places mentioned here (just opposite the bottom end of Camberwell Grove). They're also MUCH cheaper than some of the rather overpriced places around (think Lordship Lane and Herne Hill!)
  16. They're already rusting! I'm sure this is intentional but I liked the way the metal reflected the sunlight. Maybe I should get down there with some Duraglit?!
  17. I've started to champion Caravaggio's on Camberwell Church Street. Very good basic Italian food with some great specials, good service, good atmosphere and not too painful a bill, Not haute cuisine but great for an evening out.
  18. Belatedly chucking in my advice. I do this route very regularly (too regularly) as I have to go to Cardiff for work frequently. I've tried every route possible but the best is overground ED to London Bridge, Jubilee Line to Baker Street, Bakerloo Line to Paddington (the interchange at Baker Street only involves walking through a short passageway on the same level) I promise you this is the quickest route.
