So are they taking the entire population of young people in Southwark and dividing that by the number state pupils taking A-levels? That's absurd. In addition to not including children studying in Lewisham etc, it would exclude young people in private school rather than state school. In Southwark that would create significant distortions as well.

Louisa, he has lost the race by every metric. Not conceding is petty, disrespectful, pointless and increases the chance of a Trump victory. Very scary times. Also, I can't believe that despite winning the popular vote, the assigned delegates (those you get from winning a state) and the total delegates (including Super Delegates), Sander won't concede much less congratulate her as is standard practice. There is something very ugly about it and I strongly suspect would never happen to a male candidate.

Please stay on topic.

Louisa? Lord, I really don't see how one chain taking over another makes LL any more generic. If you want to start that debate please post on the old thread and leave this one for genuine updates regarding opening, licensing etc.

family bathroom renovation question
LondonMix replied to SE22mum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It makes the room feel more spacious and in small bathrooms take up less space. -
Its not a new Lido, its reinstating an old Lido which I think will make a lot of difference from a planning perspective. Not sure about the supporting facilities but that I am sure will largely depend on bulk / massing.

I don't like the decor either but that menu sounds terrific

Haha! I need the last word? Right, let's agree to disagree. The links posted are really interesting. Otta, I don't think there is anything hypocritical or rose tinted about celebrating someone like Ali just because they did some things that they have apologized for. Comparing the Ali-Frazier situation to looking past pederasty is insane. After 4 posts about the issue, I came in to correct factually incorrect statements that people made about what happened. It could have easily ended there but didn't.... Anyway, I'm glad the thread is moving on.

I agree red devil. Having a great legacy isn't about having made no mistakes in your life. He made plenty- speak to his 3 ex wives! He grew as a human being over the years, publicly acknowledged his mistakes and apologised for them, devoted himself to humanitarian work in addition to being a huge proponent in the civil rights movement, a world class boxer and one of the most dynamic and charismatic sports personalities in the 20th century. That the majority of this thread has harped on his feud with Joe Frazier really feels myopic and petty to me.
-
I can only go by the fact that at the time Frazier said he accepted the apology and that he wanted to give Ali a hug. Ali actually apologised to Frazier's son the night of their last fight saying he didn't mean a word of what he said in promoting the fight. He didn't apologise directly which always bothered Frazier. Their relationship was a very complicated one- for years Frazier's personal voice message celebrated the fact his blows were responsible for Ali's Parkinson. I'm sure both had unresolved feelings for a long time. In the end though Ali was one of the few to attend Frazier's private funeral in 2011 so by then at least the Frazier family appeared to have moved on and Ali certainly had. He eugilised him greatly in the press.

I don't get what you mean Otta. KK said Frasier was owed an acknowledgement from Ali that he'd gone to far and Ali needed to retract his statements. I pointed out that Ali did both of those things 15 years ago and Frasier accepted the apology. My only point was that criticising Ali for not apologising to Fasier was rediculous because he had done so many years ago and the beef between the two men ended then. I should add Frazier warmly accepted the apology publicly and all this was resolved between them more than 15 years ago...
-
Ali publicly apologised to Frazier after he retired so I'm not sure what more you lot expect. Also Stevo can say what he wants and equally we can say it was tacky and in poor taste, because it was.

The Castle - Jenny the manager forced out
LondonMix replied to paulj's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree Brand New a Guy and rah rah- the pubs in ED have a reasonable amount of variety. I second that they should feel welcome at the EDT which isn't exclusively working class but all the same is very welcoming and inclusive -
The Castle - Jenny the manager forced out
LondonMix replied to paulj's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Otta, do you think the owners are planning to revamp the pub? If its really busy, then why would they do that? If the other pub she's been offered isn't that bad, why doesn't she want to go there? Is it a matter of principal because she's been at the Castle forever and doesn't feel she should be expected to move- genuine question? By 'old man's pub' I just mean not a modern pub (of which there are many varieties around here). I actually think the most diverse and welcoming pub in the area is the EDT. Anytime I go by there is a mixture of young and old, different races, different sexual orientations, middle and working class etc. -
family bathroom renovation question
LondonMix replied to SE22mum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Baths don't come with taps. How much are you looking to spend overall? There are 3 things I'd recommend strongly: 1. Heated towel rail 2. Large mirrored medicine cabinet 3. Sink vanity unit with lots of storage The storage is especially important if you will be using this bathroom as well as the kids. If you can, get shelves inset into the wall as its a great place to store shampoo, soap etc. Good luck -
People who like crafting. Do you have zero time for any hobbies? Is it just work, family, sleep? I think most people have time for a least one extra hobby occasionally.

The Castle - Jenny the manager forced out

That's not to say that its not sad that it might be changing. I'm not trying to be flippant as I know some people will feel the loss keenly. -

LondonMix replied to paulj's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Not everyone wants the same thing of course. If what the Castle is doing doesn't appeal to enough people to fill up the pub (even though its the only place offering its style of pub), that says it all though. If there was really a significant demand, it would be full and it would remain open as is. -
The Castle - Jenny the manager forced out
LondonMix replied to paulj's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Castle was the last 'old man's' pub. Seeing the success of the CPT's repositioning as the Great Exhibition, its not surprising the owners are tempted to try a new strategy that will generate more business. For those of you who go to the Castle, how busy is it? It always looks fairly empty whenever I pass it. Its a bit harsh to criticize the new style of pubs. They are full, which means they are giving people what they want and there are differences between them. -
The Peckham Coal line might get funding from the Mayor. Its discussed extensively on the GLA website and is also part of the New Southwark Plan. Sweaty Betty - the final nail in the gentrification coffin?
LondonMix replied to Louisa's topic in The Lounge
Louisa, you are just biased. You don't have to be rich to treat yourself to nice work out close occasionally and you don't have to be rich to treat yourself to nice make up. Its just about spending priorities and personal preference. -
Last offered distances for primary schools 2016
LondonMix replied to Fjgb's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Do your furthest distance stats include offers made to LAC applicants Renata? I know Southwark's official figures typically publish the furthest distance figure for pupils admitted only on the distance criteria but it would be good if you could confirm your attachment has been done on the same basis.
