Yes, it is the norm in my house too. My son's first week was probably more of an excitement to me than it was to him. I'd pick him up and ask him all manner of questions only to be met with a monosyllabic yes or no or okay. I was desperate to find out how his day had been but would get nothing back. Through the school grapevine I'd find out he'd got a certificate or a golden ticket weeks after and when I'd ask him about it he'd matter of factly fill me in with the scantest of details. Now, on the walk home I ask him to tell me three things that happened during his day. His responses are usually - I ate some bread with butter, I went to the toilet twice, I did some writing or I played in the playground!

I've come on holiday to a house we regularly use and the room where I sleep with my son has big windows that let in a lot of light which wakes my son up really early! Usually I spend ages hanging blankets and towels all round it to try and cut out some of the light but it means having to redo it each time you want to open a window and it's not terribly effective either. I remembered your post this time though so thought I'd give it a go. I bought a wide roll of foil and armed with a sprayer I covered all the windows. It worked fantastically as it covers every inch of the window, didn't take long to do and I can still open the windows for fresh air! Plus, It keeps the room cool during the day as it reflects the sun. It's a genius solution! I showed my parents who are going to do the same in their room at home. Thanks for the tip!

Just to be aware, my dad was woken up this morning at 5.30am on upland road to a banging sound. He looked out and saw two guys on a moped trying to steal a neighbour's motorbike. He shouted at them and they drove off but literally three minutes later they returned. He called the police and started filming them. They were very brazen and didn't appear bothered. He ran outside and they drove off. The police arrived really quickly. They thieves had also attempted to steal another neighbour's motorbike but had given up on one as the owner had removed his battery as he'd gone abroad. The most shocking part is how unconcerned they were at being spotted. I think they were used to be able to steal it really quickly and make a fast getaway.

Word of warning, we phoned Virgin just to enquire about prices and a few days later we got something through the post telling us a date that the engineer would be coming to install it and with a direct debit already set up (they used our details from when we were with them years ago). When we phoned to complain, we were told we had verbally agreed to this. It was only through insisting that they listen to the recorded conversation that we were able to get them to admit to fraudulently using our bank details. Outrageous. That definitely made our minds up for us.

Is anyone around the top end of Upland Road using Virgin? If so, what is it like and would you recommend using Virgin tv and broadband? I know there were lots of problems for a long time with Virgin in the area - speaking to them today they said the problems had now been resolved - is this true?

Could you see if you could get a stall on the North Cross Road market and trial it there first? See how it competes egainst the food already being sold to give you an idea of what people want?

Anyone know what it's like now?

I just didn't want Peggy's owner to have false hope thinking it might be Peggy or to search for hours in the woods on a false lead.

I was in the woods today and saw the posters for Peggy. There was a daschund in the woods today wearing a harness but it was with a couple and they were calling it 'Hero' I think so not Peggy I'm afraid. I am keepin an eye out though and will try to get to the woods again tomorrow so will keep an eye out for her.

I think maybe you're confusing East Dulwich and West Dulwich. My sister lived just around the corner from you and fell between the postcodes of Crystal Palace and West Norwood but was close to West Dulwich.

Just used Steve for our broken oven element. He was polite, flexible on days and times, prompt, friendly and reliable. He fixed our oven in no time and his charges were more than reasonable. I would definitely recommend him and will certainly use him again.

We went to the playground at the bottom of Greenwich park on Tuesday. There were no building works taking place but I can't say that I particularly noticed that any renovation works had taken place. Are there two playgrounds here?
