  1. i always just drive up to the golf club and walk in from there
  2. We were caught right in the middle of this on our way out to dinner. This was a CO19 operation and the suspect was apprehended on the corner of Landcroft Road and Rodwell Road. The suspect was a male and was shouting abuse as he was pinned down and watched over by approximately 6-7 plain clothed CO19 officers fully armed with machine guns. It looked like the helicopter was tracking him via infa red as no lights were being used. There were about 4 or 5 cars on the scene when he was arrested, but more were circling the immediate area in pursuit and to block access roads. The whole thing seemed to be very professionally handled and was over very quickly. We just walked by on the other side of the road while the police did their thing.
  3. Yes i do. Where i grew up everyone uses that word as a catch-all word to describe people who may indulge in these activities such as rummaging through bins etc. I don't mean to cause offense to anyone through use of the word!
  4. Sean I agree, but I think a lot of forums ultimately turn into this. i guess that's what happens when people sit behind computers.
  5. what? text removed after being reported as offensive - The Administrator
  6. come to think of it they also steal the able and cole veg from time to time as well! but that is obviously later in the day
  7. we had some gippos walking up the street going into peoples bins around 6.30am
  8. Thats what you get for buying on the internet and saving 50p. Support your london dealers people.
  9. moving out of one shop into another next door doesn't seem like much expansion as they are not keeping the original. The only thing that makes sense is buying the place if they got the freehold. this always makes sense for businesses in the long term over renting.
  10. probably. Only been there about 4 times and the vibe does vary. Generally I found it to be good friendly service and a nice place to meet up with mates. If eating it has to be the burgers as other meals have not been as great. Anyway EDT, Bishop, I don't care any change to the mag will hopefully be for the better.
  11. anyone else had problems with this? so many cars are parked tight on all street corners and you cant see down the roads when turning out on junctions.
  12. A nice pub would be great, maybe a bit more like the plough. It can get a little roudy from time to time so hopefully the few chav types that hang about in the magdala will venture back to maybe the harvester on the south circ.
  13. generally really easy to park on most roads except near the station and near estate agents like ludlow and foxtons who have shed loads of beatles and mini's taking up spaces. I nearly always get outside my house or directly opposite. even lordship lane is not that bad for london. Say no to resident permits!
  14. i guess it's a shame to see more loss of houses and decent victorian ones at that when there are so many purpose built flats available. I don't really go with the whole affordability thing. Unfortunately if areas are too pricey sometimes you have to look at moving to more affordable areas and work up from there.
  15. Macroban - well if renovating my own house to live in and enjoy makes me a "local property developer" then the answer is yes. Do you really think a local property developer would need to come on a forum like this to try and find an architect? My comment states that it is my opinion. It also mentions a very large area of London. If you disagree just say so and reply with a normal post. That's what a forum is for. I'll leave it to you to decide wether you need to be suspicious and make unnecessary assumptions of people.
  16. In my opinion South East London as a whole is set to go through the roof again as soon as some liquidity comes back into the market. Initially higher growth will be around CP with tube, but nunhead, brixton, brokley etc are all becoming more desirable and are widely known to be some of the last places in London where buying your first freehold house is still achievable. Probably have around 12-18 months to get through first. Loads of people in ED are investing in their houses right now. Shed loads of loft conversions and extensions adding value long term.
  17. Surely all the Ebay parcels alone must make these places profitable and worth staying open!
  18. Were you the guy playing alongside the guy with the big double bass in the Plough about a month ago? I thought that was pretty cool
  19. It's definitely a great time to buy. Property is a long term thing and that's what a lot of people seem to forget. To many TV programs have brainwashed people into the buy and turn around quickly plot. That's the only risky strategy right now. Long term investment is better now than it was 12 to 18 months ago as there are some good deals around. Even if prices go down a few more percent this year people still need somewhere to live so all this holding on means lots of lovely rising rent for the people who buy to let.
