Now Kebab & Wine is the real business. I'd happily spend a fiver on a large kebab with all the trimmings. A true Lordship Lane success story and as old school ED as me. Louisa.
Went in this morning to see what all the fuss was about. Lovely owner, not overpriced and a really friendly atmosphere. Credit where it is due. My coffee was well coffee, but I think as a package a really decent place. Full marks. Louisa.
Just mention of the word pizza throws up nightmare images of saturated fat from extremely unhealthy dairy and processed meats. Not to mention the overload of carbs. Makes me want to puke thinking about this unhealthy garbage meal being spouted as a healthy alternative to a meal containing vegetables. I've genuinely heard it all now. Pizza might taste delicious to some of you,but I can assure you it's far from healthy and Foxy is damn right with those stats. I think there should be a panorama program on it. Louisa.
Jeremy you know as well as I do that you can go to the Dulwich Cafe (or similar) and have a large meal and drink for under a fiver. Now I challenge you to find a pizza "restaurant" that serves up anything nearly as healthy and filling for the same price. You are justifying the unjustifiable and you know it! Bread with bits on 8-20 quid or a meal with meat and two veg for under a fiver. I rest my case. Louisa.
I still find it inconceivable in times of economic hardship that people can justify spend anything in the price range we speak of for cooked bread with toppings on it. You could fill your boots at a working mans caf with twice as much food for half the price. Bizarre people. Louisa.
Not that if ever entertain posh cheese on toast as a meal option, but I was told that this particular branch of Franco Manca is only open on weekends? If that's the case that's just ridiculous. Louisa.
If it's open by Christmas I'll personally make and distribute homemade mince pies to every forumite and distribute them dressed as a yummy mummy with matching bugaboo accessory from the corner of North cross and Lordship. In other words, January. Louisa.
I personally am going to miss the old derelict police building. There's something quite soothing about abandoned post-modern architecture. Leaves me feeling all cold inside. Louisa.
And along Rye Lane the former storage space above the old Woolworths store (now two stores SportsDirect and 99p Shop), it seems the Pure Gym chain has expressed an interest and submitted a planning application to convert the upstairs into one of their gyms. Confirmation that Evans Cycles will be opening at 41-43 East Dulwich Road in the former Crown House building. Details below: http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/DocsOnline/Documents/390107_1.pdf Louisa.
This is the Peckham I remember as a child. Lots of memories came flooding back watching this, the Peckham School for Girls footage was especially good. Louisa.
Of course it is Jeremy! I'm a curious person. It clearly isn't going to be a Waitrose - but The EDF has become legendary in SE London circles for being Waitrose obsessed, I'm sure the builder was toying with my hopes for an Aldi or Pret. Wow didn't think of that one before it might become a Pret - I'm emailing them right now. Louisa.
On route down LL about half an hour ago I curiously asked a very handsome builder chap to put me out of my misery and tell me who was taking it in and he jokingly said "I hope you like shopping at Waitrose love". I'm taking it with a pinch of organic sea salt of course. Louisa.
This is all getting a bit little britain. "Margaret.... Margaret....." ................................ "yes" "Do we have any of those cat shop shops in stock?" Louisa.
There's a lot to be said for a good iceberg. It pi$$es me off when a restaurant tries to posh up a prawn cocktail with rocket, blasphemous evil bar stewards. Louisa.
To be fair, Cath Kidston have been opening pop-up stores around London this last year, but no mention of ED on the website. However, the short two year lease could be explained with the pop-up nature of their entry into this area. Louisa.
