  1. Rumour of the M&S is unfounded. However, I don't think the council will now be going ahead with the library. My hunch is the dreaded 'W' supermarket will be interested in this one. Louisa.
  2. *Bob* is fine and dandy. Currently installing a specialist one liner vending machine in my garden. Wish he would hurry up, I'm running out of ideas. Louisa.
  3. The official line as far as I'm aware, is that the dog will re-open on November 7th. Perhaps this is why people were gathering outside in preparation? Louisa.
  4. I know this may not be the case, but I find it offensive when long standing businesses - (to use that well worn, but in this case well earned phrase), "a local institution" - are criticised for something they've done for decades, donkeys years if you prefer. They're survivors. They do what they do well, and are part and parcel of what ,ales this neighbourhood great. The council want to stuff them in a predictable money grabbing exercise, stuff the fact a local independent business is doing well and surviving in tough times, the council just want more money. Greedy I say. And to top that, we get a bunch of nimby keyboard warriors wanting to inflame the situation by nit picking over a pretty non offensive issue to begin with. Louisa.
  5. I've missed a treat of a thread here. For my bit, I really like Dulwich DIY, friendly and competitively priced, just the sort of shop we need in the area to keep that sense of functionality and yes 'normality' going! Street displays have been a part of London's eclectic retail tradition for centuries, don't see why the council or anyone else should suddenly find it offensive now? Louisa.
  6. The thought of a second M&S sends a shiver down my spine. Why would we need a second store? I'd rather Londis relocated here if they are to be forced out of the LL site. Louisa.
  7. Nice to see the double act have laid off me for a while. Foxy, have you seen "My big fat Greek wedding 2"? Louisa.

Maybe a clown is the real life version of a cyber goading expert? Louisa.
  9. I can think of a few clowns on this forum, but they don't scare me. Louisa.
  10. What foxy says above. Just because a genre of restaurant has the same dishes named on its menu, doesn't make them all the same. People may love these hipster chains popping up all over the place, talking up the menu, but to be frank - it's going to taste exactly the same if it's served in Windsor, Southampton, Covent Garden, or this new branch here in ED. Generic chains have their place, but they shouldn't be charging over the odds for generic identikit cuisine. Here come the chains as predicted. Just watch, and mark my words. Viable retail space, or not, they're coming. Louisa.
  11. If you didn't read the dedicated thread, another chain is coming to LL, replacing Jaflong. The Real Greek http://www.therealgreek.com Louisa.
  12. Just found this on the planning portal. It seems a planning application to extend the existing Jaflong Restaurant at 41 Lordship Lane has been submitted, with the proposal to increase the number of covers and floor space. The present Indian restaurant then looks like it is about to be replaced by a branch of 'The Real Greek', a restaurant chain with a branch in Covent Garden. Here is the website for the the replacement restaurant (if I've read the planning application correctly): http://www.therealgreek.com Here is a link to the proposed changes: http://planbuild.southwark.gov.uk/documents/?GetDocument=%7b%7b%7b!sVuvVKE5zZtFCx9JRU1%2fPw%3d%3d!%7d%7d%7d (Edited to add, this small chain which has most of its branches based in central London, is owned by the same group that now owns Franco Manca). Louisa.
  13. After reading some of the horror stories above it is a miracle someone has not come off even worse as a result of the pavements locally. The number of vanity projects being pursued ahead of urgent things such as this are beyond comprehension. James Barber if you are reading this can you please respond and do something urgently? It must surely be a matter of priority. Louisa.

C?te Brasserie? Louisa.
  15. The condition of LL pavement and surrounding pavements are disgraceful and I've raised this before with the council. I have myself come close to falling and trip regularly. Something must be done about it. The amount of money the council receives and they can't re-lay the pedestrian walk ways on one of the most profitable high streets in the borough? Louisa.

My bush has since been kept in check regularly, however, being as I am, tucked away in a corner my front garden never has been overly grown to such an extent that it prevents people from gaining access to the footpath outside. Some of the hedges I was privy to yesterday were extreme in their overgrowth to say the very least. Louisa.
  17. OK this has been getting on my goat all day and I've finally found the time to make a thread about it. Today has been a lovely day, and a scheduled check up at the GP this morning resulted in me leaving the car at home and walking to Crystal Palace Road. Roughly a 15 minute walk. Along route I couldn't help but notice the dangerous number of bushes and hedges which are totally out of control. Not only do they scale dramatic heights, but many are simply growing out into the pavement restricting pedestrians from using the public footpath. On more than one occasion I was forced out into the road, and with cars being so closely parked to the road it is often a dangerous trip hazard. Fellow residents of East Dulwich, could you please trim back your bushes in time for the winter season as this is simply not acceptable. On average I would say every fourth house on CPR had an unruly bush. Is there anyone I can contact about this? James Barber is this a council issue? I'm all for lovely hedges and beautiful front gardens, so don't take this thread the wrong way everyone. Just some simple maintenance and being mindful that disabled and elderly people struggle to negotiate these overgrown monstrosities. Louisa.
  18. Jeremy coming out with the cheesey one liners once again. I relish the opportunity to laugh at and mock this new restaurant. What a pickle it will find itself in with two doorstep rivals. Louisa.
  19. Byron Burger coming to LL. Why do we need so many burger chains? Don't like it? Hard cheese, it would seem. Louisa.
  20. Why do these articles only talk about new or relatively new things? Parallel universe syndrome once again. Louisa.

Have you been to a Turtle Bay restaurant before? I am assuming not, if you think my comparison with Nando's is so far off target. They specialise in barbecued food, particularly Chicken - but not exclusively. Hence why I suggested they would be a good comparable to Nandos seeing as they both do similar main menu stalwarts. Stop splitting hairs please, Pizza Express is of course not comparable. Louisa.
  22. Just seen Vanessa Feltz coming out of Chicken Favorite. Louisa.

    Christmas

Christmas? Are to kidding me? Couldn't you wait until October before reminding us all of this expensive, cold, depressing time of year? Feeling rather down now! Louisa.
  24. Wagas coming to Peckham following station arcade refurb. Louisa.
  25. Bloody chains popping up all over the place, providing longer opening hours, better quality customer service, and cheaper food. I don't know how these places like Subway and McDonalds survive! The way ED is going, we might even get a Pret a Manger soon, there goes the neighbourhood. Louisa.
