  1. How exciting, another Pizza Express within half a mile of the village. Can hardly contain myself. Louisa.
  2. A car wash, turning space for large delivery vehicles, parking for residents along with pedestrian access, all in a very small cramped residential street. An accident waiting to happen. It's understandable immediate residents would be upset surely? Louisa.

    Christmas

Thanks for the tip. Will pop by this afternoon. Are they knocked down in price? Louisa.
  4. I was under the impression delivery lorries had time and size restrictions and had to back into the very narrow former car park at the rear of the building? Louisa.
  5. I quite like background Muzak or back in the day up-beat saxophone lift/elevator music. Very relaxing when you're "going wild in the aisles" as Dale Winton once famously said. Louisa.

Give it a few months, this will be the next planning application. It amazes me how people 'overlook' things when they get what they want. If this were a small independent business having big deliveries outside their shop people would be up in arms. But bow people are getting their posh ready meals it miraculously becomes the acceptable face of capitalism. Like it or lump it mentality. Louisa.

I could go on. I'm just stating fact surely? That's not pessimism, it's encouraging them to sort it out. None of the above comments applied to the previous occupant, who so many of you on here took joy out of slagging off. Louisa.
  8. For goodness sakes! I do not have any issue with well behaved children walking around a supermarket with their parent/guardian. But are you honestly telling me Jeremy, in a small supermarket with limited space in the aisles, it is appropriate for some parents to allow their children to run around like they're in a playground? Btw it's not the fault of the child, it's the parent who seems transfixed with being in a high end supermarket and not caring about other members of the public around them being confronted with trip hazards. One family who were in their the other day literally took over an entire aisle, grandparents (presumably), mother and father - two kids one in a pram another one walking. They act like no one else exists. It's just ignorance. Louisa.
  9. LM I don't believe I've been knowingly pessimistic about the new M&S. I've wandered in more than once, just giving my observations on where they can improve the offering. There seems to be an obsession on this forum with talking up things they like, and talking down things they don't. I much prefer to take the central route which is more constructive. M&S can take any constructive criticism on the chin I'm sure. Also, judging by James Barbers comments on the other thread the whole planning process is under question again. Don't recall any such issues when Iceland were around. Louisa.
  10. Amateurish. I cannot be polite about shoddy work. 0/10. Louisa.
  11. Wouldn't say it was up to scratch with other M&S food stores I've been to. Far from it in fact. Relatively small range to begin with, worsened by a lack of stock. Staff who overall don't seem to be on the ball or able to answer questions. All coming across a little stretched and out of its depth. To add to this, the typical clientele who like to block the whole aisle with kids/extended family/friends/prams (delete as appropriate), shopping like no one else around them exists. Bit of a shambles overall after a few visits although some staff do seem to be very friendly and I did enjoy my wine selection Sunday. I'm with foxy, I wonder how long this will last. Louisa.
  12. A damn well patronising letter. The Dulwich Estate referring to people as peasants? The pub has been given a generic New England yacht club makeover? I for one am fuming at this most horrendous act of hostelry vandalism if true. If I had received this letter I would have driven to their office and demanded an immediate meeting with whoever wrote it and a thorough explanation for their contemptuous lauding of self importance. Louisa.
  13. Been in again, found a really love cote du rhone which I will probably stick with my roast lamb today. Still disappointed at the scale of the place, it just lacks something other M&S branches seem to have. Can't put my finger on it. I think I just miss Iceland deals most of all, something marks seem to be lacking. Louisa.
  14. Froggy I do believe Waitrose have been holding out for either this site or the former police station soon to be Harris school, which they of course lost out on. If the Co-op do lose customers they may think it's better to just rent it out to a more prestigious retailer and still retain the freehold maybe? Louisa.
  15. My sympathy goes out to the Co-op they don't seem to be having much luck lately. Maybe the new signage and store layout change will bring with it a change in fortune. Louisa.
  16. I'm popping there again in a moment so if anyone wishes to see me I shall be nosing around the marks wine section within the next half hour. Louisa.
  17. Cut wholemeal loaf (thick sliced) M&S 89p Co-op 75p (Sainsburys and Lidl 45p) Personally, I've tried all of them. I would say the Marks version is head and shoulder the best, but lidl really isn't far behind (and basically half the price). I am disappointed Marks isn't displaying it's wine by country. Louisa.
  18. Foxy, IKEA and IDEA sound very different. I don't think you'll be making it into the top 100 Cockney rhyming slang terms anytime soon with that one. I'd personally have said 'pint of beer', or even just 'pint'. Sorry I'm not at all with it today, the new M&S opening has knocked me for six. To be honest, im not sure whether I'm coming or going anymore. Louisa.
  19. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I've no problem with charity shops. And as it goes > I think Beckenham is perfectly OK. But posh ???!! Jeremy, I know it pains the ED hoi polloi to have to admit that Beckenham has had a Waitrose and M&S for years, many many of them. Along with a sainsburys and a lidl, a Foxtons, Nandos.. I could go on. It's attracted wealthy people for decades. Some neighbourhoods want to have it, some had it and lost it, others have always had it aka Beckenham. Louisa.

  21. Foxtons can like it or lump it! A small IKEA would be good. Can't see that happening though. Louisa.
  22. LM Crouch End has bigger retail units, and more of them too. Eltham and Charlton (despite arguably, being less affluent), also have much more space to accommodate these big chains. Let us not forget, Clapham has an Iceland next door to a Little Waitrose. Come on, people got their upmarket supermarket, let us now have a Lidl to replace Co-op. Louisa.
  23. On the topic of trolling, isn't it interesting that horses for courses doesn't apply when certain members wish to play the 'do as I say, not as I do' card. Tiresome. Louisa.
  24. I popped in again today. It isn't as good as the Beckenham store on reflection. Staff not quite as clued up (yet) and stock levels low. Also, the range isn't anywhere near as good. Disappointing freezer section too and no deli counter. But then, Beckenham is naturally posh, and ED is, well.. I don't have to spell it out. It's ok. Nothing spectacular though. Some good wines. A lidl to replace co-op would be the ideal situation now. We don't need bloody Waitrose AND M&S. This is a dump that's been given a makeover, it's not Chelsea FFS. Louisa.
  25. Waitrose seem to be staying schtum on social media about their rival taking a punt on East Dulwich. Louisa.
