I love WH Smith stores. They sell all sorts of convenience products and would be ideally suited for this area. Most of their branches have now closed and I believe they're concentrating more on train stations and airports nowadays. It would be demographically appealing to them to setup shop in ED, especially the Plough end. Where they could provide a service for people who would go in store and spend money on other things too. No I think it's a good idea, I'm going to contact them and see what they say. Louisa.
  2. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Why does ED not have a WH Smith (similar to forest hill), with a PO branch located inside it? It would solve so many problems. The Plough stretch of shops, either side, is the IDEAL spot for one of their branches. Is there anyone we can petition WH Smiths to open a branch around that end of LL? Louisa.

I hate buses and am not prepared to jump on one when I have such a convenience on my doorstep for X number of years. Equally, the short walk to this PO is convenient and good for my health. The main LL one is time consuming when you have other things to be getting on with, and I am not prepared to drive my car and add to the problems LL area already has now M&S will be opening up, causing mayhem for the poor folks on the surrounding residential streets. My nearest PO will be Dulwich Village. I am mortified. Very angry indeed. Louisa.
  4. I think this is disgraceful for anyone living this end of ED and I for one am very disappointed and angry about this move. Some people aren't in a position to have to walk or jump buses when they need a PO and some of us have better things to be getting on with than desperately trying to find a parking space around LL of an afternoon when all we want is to pay a bill or send off a letter, collect pension or whatever it is you do on one of their branches. Can we not do something about this? It is becoming unacceptable. Rye Lane and now this one. The queues are long enough in the LL main branch as it is. Disgraceful. Louisa.
  5. North Devon or North Cornwall further afield, closer to home the north downs are beautiful and a short trip away. Somewhere like Downe or Cudham, very nice scenery and walks. Louisa.
  6. For me Hong Hong, Grove Vale all the way. Really nice people, I've known the older lady for over 20 years now. The food is delicious and always on time, good value for money. The best bit is they often do things you might not see on the menu too. Small and large containers available. Free prawn crackers with orders over ?10 I believe. Louisa.
  7. Foxy the interior is looking lovely! I shall certaintly be visiting it on its first week of opening. Are you aware of any opening week offers? Louisa.
  8. Just a quick warning if you live on or want to travel along Shawbury RD, they're resurfacing it currently. No idea how long it will take. I was caught off guard about 20 minutes ago. Louisa.
  9. So were the Huguenot minority of the 18th/19th century, who settled much of the old 'East end' considered immigrants, refugees or expats? Louisa.
  10. What does 'drop some acid mean'?, I'm not down with modern slang. Louisa.
  11. If anyone here doubts the existence of spirit, then why don't you test it for yourselves. Sit alone in a dark room with a ouija board, and your finger hovering over the glass or word piece. I guarantee anyone that does this will eventually with patience attract spirit and possibly even communicate. It isn't something I would recommend to people to do, and I certaintly wouldn't touch it after the experiences I've had. But so many doubting Thomas's and nay saying Mary's on this forum that it's the only certain way I can ensure that you'll change your mind. Louisa.
  12. The word 'Guy'is a very old word dating back to the gunpowder plot of 1605, when a bunch of Catholic political figures decided it would be a good idea to kill the king at the state opening of parliament by planting a load of gunpowder in the cellar of the parliament building. After this failed attempt, the word guy came to represent a grotesque or ignorant man, which was transported via cultural ties to the United States, where over the years the phrase came to just mean a man, or later anyone, in an informal setting. So it's actually not American by origin at all, it's origins are from here in London. Louisa.
  13. Does Denmark hill station still have a pub attached to it, and if so, what brand is it? Louisa.
  14. I have directly contacted M&S on their live chat web page and requested details about when this branch will be open. I've been told that they will be opening up on the 24th August. But judging by the lack of signage and work going on I wouldn't be overly surprised if that date was pushed forward a few weeks. Louisa.
  15. Quids class trolling again I see 😊 Louisa.
  16. Some people seem obsessed by it. It gets tiresome doesn't it? Louisa.
  17. I think it's a real shame that sometimes we must immediately jump to the logical conclusion and doubt a persons sanity, simply because we choose not to believe in something we don't understand. This poor person could be perfectly rational and experiencing some sort of unexplained phenomena, and yet no one wants to help her explore that route without mockery. It's a very sad world we live in. Louisa.
  18. Two great young divers win gold in the synch diving last night, no one says a word. Tom Daley wins bronze and no one shuts up about it. Start celebrating real success and stop feeding overblown egos. Louisa.
  19. It's a commonly held belief that spirit is more likely to play up between the witching hour and 4am. Many reports of poltergeist activity have been reported to my spirit church and they provide regular healing to clear off negative spiritual energy. If you do get a chance to speak to your neighbour feel free to provide her with my contact details on here and I can have a quiet word next time I am down Eltham. It's not nice having to deal with poltergeist activity. Louisa.
  20. The milkman. Rag and bone man. Ford escort. The Sweeney. David Soul. Louisa.
  21. I miss the Woolwich. I was with them for donkeys years, then bloody Barclays bought them out. They did the open plan banking years before any of their rivals which always left you feeling at ease in their branches. Very informal and friendly atmosphere. Louisa.

  24. 1976 was a very special summer for me. I recall the water shortages and that was my first summer holiday abroad, to Greece. I was on top of the world and life just seemed so much easier. 1976 was a financially tough year for me, but being young you just got on with it. Sunny days and Demis Roussos on top of the pops singing "forever and ever". Happy memories! Louisa.
  25. How much? ?16? That has to be the biggest take on I've ever heard and it knocks my 6/12 quid burger van comparison out the park. What a bloody liberty. I don't know how these people get away with it. You could make your own burger and chips from scratch for less than that! Louisa.
