  1. They aren't keen on passers by peaking in, or taking photographs. You were lucky to get away with that foxy. I'll certaintly be popping in to have a look, but long I can't see it being of much use to me. Handy for classy wines though. Louisa.
  2. Poundland is brilliant for biscuits and cakes, excellent value for money. Top brands too. Louisa.
  3. Oh how I would laugh if the signage people arrived and put up 'Poindland' or 'Pound Stretcher'. I would love to see the faces of the folk walking past if it's done tomorrow on market day! I live in hope. Louisa.

  5. M&S Food yes and due to open on 31st August according to reports on here. Louisa.
  6. Seabag I have to agree. Some of the people of Cornwall and Devon's tourist resort who owns small businesses tend to have quite a negative approach to people who are in effect keeping their businesses alive and kicking through the summer season. They open and close at hours which suite them. I was once told by a pub which advertised it's famous lunchtime offering of food, that the chef had popped to the shops but I was welcome to go and get a sandwich and crisps from the co-op and eat it in the pub. Thanks but no thanks. Louisa.
  7. Sue I go to Crystal Palace, Selhurst, Thorton Heath going. Then on the way back I usually go via Norbury as depending on time of day, the other route starts to get busier. I would never recommend traveling back via Norbury/Streatham again. That route is Absolutely horrific. Louisa.

Many thanks LM. It's great to be back. Admin decided it was appropriate for my confinement break to come to a close, on the proviso that I do not talk about anything class related, outside of the Lounge. I am therefore not going to be dragged into any class/gentrification related topics whatsoever, and I would appreciate it if others do not poke at me like a bear with a stick, trying to get me to perform on this particular topic. Louisa.
  9. Sue I would argue that the group which owns Franco Manca, Fulham Shore (who also own smaller chain 'The Real Greek'), are possibly looking to invest further in East Dulwich, and may well want to expand another brand of theirs into the neighbourhood. Can't see them opening a second Franco Manca though. Louisa.
  10. I wish them good luck too. Happy to see them succeed and wish them well, and people accuse me of being negative all the time when they're being so downhearted about a local business expanding into a bigger premises. Louisa.
  11. i find pizza boring and don't see the point in it, but who cares what I think when the local area has multiple restaurants & takeaways all serving up variants of the same basic food type, all busy, all doing well. That's what counts. Same applies to Indian. Louisa.

But it isn't actually a 'new' curry house is it? It will surely be replacing the other curry house of the same name? So in fact, it's just a relocation if anything. Louisa.
  13. I personally love Mem's of Brockley Cross. Absolutely delicious good value for money builders caf nearby. If its traditional, old school, builders caf that also does things like kippers, black and white pudding, good quality bubble- there's only one place to go. The Cat and Cucumber Cafe, Tower Bridge Road, Bermondsey. Been there donkeys years. Louisa.
  14. Jeremy, it would seem a bizarre move to me for a restaurant chain to open a further branch in a neighbourhood with only limited footfall most of the week. After conversations with Nandos and Tortilla (who both looked at ED), it seems they concluded the neighborhood wasn't economically viable. Louisa.
  15. I would concur with above comments regarding travel by road. I went to IKEA at purley way a few weeks back and as a result of Norbury and Thornton Heath traffic jams it took me close on two hours to get back home. These outlying south London neighbourhoods have in many ways, 'had their day'. They feel a bit tired and isolated. I think train links are OK, and obviously housing stock is way cheaper. If you are holding out for some sort of 'gentrification', you may be waiting a long time. Louisa.
  16. I agree Bic Basher the FH PO isn't amazing. But then remember it's the only one for some distance around so will inevitably attract higher footfall. I don't understand why banks can't house PO counters, or perform the same functions at least. Sub contracted out of course. Or how about the Sainsburys local? Louisa.
  17. Jennys this isn't just about me and my habits. It's about a community resource for this end of ED, which already lacks a number of resources, and a PO closing would further isolate some of the community who struggle to make it to LL main PO. I shopped at Iceland for a destination shop a few times a month, sometimes more sometimes less. The PO is a different ball game altogether. I can often pay multiple trips to the PO and do shopping whilst at it too. Louisa.
  18. I have the same problem when it comes to buying wine for dinner. I stupidly don't hide it well enough, see it during the afternoon and by evening it's been demolished and I don't fancy cooking. What are you cooking dogger? Louisa.
  19. Well foxy I for one, will be visiting. It looks lovely from the outside and they're trying something different with music and a private area for parties. No corkage for wine and beer either, superb. Sounds like an excellent idea. At the end of it all, you can't please everyone can you? (Especially on here) Louisa.
  20. ED has had a reputation for curry houses the last four decades at least, not everyone wants some bastardised version of 'authenticity' (which usually means paying over the odds). If the formula isn't broke, then why fix it? Multiple curry houses along the lane all busy and most successfully been in business for a decade or even more. If people want something specifically regional or more authentic, then they'll not mind travelling further to find it for a once in a while treat. Louisa.

Why not just accept that some people, especially older people, would like to keep certain local resources within close proximity to their home, for reasons that are personal to them. I want this PO or another similar to remain nearby because we are already losing one major branch in Peckham and it is inevitable that pressure will be put on remaining branches nearby, including the already busy LL main branch. Louisa.
  22. I too can vouch for Lorenzos of Crystal Palace. Very lovely restaurant and people. Louisa.
  23. Glad you enjoyed KK. I would recommend the prawn toast slices with lemon wedges. It's making me feel hungry even now as I type! All their prawn dishes are exceptional (in a British Chinese take away tradition sense). Louisa.
  24. No Lowlander it is not snobbish, and if you read back over what I wrote I was saying I am not adding pressure to existing bus services which others rely on, I choose to walk or drive because I am able to do so. Would you rather me clogging up the buses when I don't need to then? Anyway, back on topic. The PO is a resource for everyone not just car or bus passengers. Louisa.
  25. Honestly titch, you would never get me on any form of public transport unless it was an absolute emergency. I do not feel the need to put pressure on already trained community services and would rather free up space for those folk most in need to use them. I quite enjoy walking, but being pressured into walking the full distance from Barry road side over to LL just isn't on, nor acceptable IMO. I have a whole multitude of tasks to complete on a daily basis, and I don't see why I should be inconvenienced in doing them just because a PO has decided it wants to leave the immediate vicinity. Moreover, this isn't just about me, it's about the wider community (especially this side of ED). The main PO at LL will now be overwhelmed by a whole host of closing branches locally. It's just not on. Louisa.
