If you like Nandos, then you'll like Turtle Bay. Similar offering. Louisa.
-
They also have branches in Brixton and Walthamstow. I once tried their Milton Keynes branch and enjoyed my cocktails, which were two for one until 7/8pm most nights. The food offering is acceptable. It's just another addition to the expanding nightlife economy of Peckham really. Louisa.

Nothing on the planning application indicates a time frame for the opening, but as EDhistory has already pointed out, this is a protected shop front, so there may be some delays surrounding the length of time it takes to approve the design. It is the newsagent on LL opposite the pharmacy on the corner of shawbury/LL. Disappointing it doesn't have seating, and also slightly confused as to why they didn't just open up a branch in a empty unit rather than share with an existing business. Louisa.

Jeremy, it does indeed. But then some people don't necessarily eat in places because they enjoy the food. It's about being seen eating there. Louisa.
-
And for the record I have not eaten in. Pret A Manger sandwich shop for a long long time. I do however concede they wouldn't be a healthy option to have all of the time, much the same as with pizza or burgers, but unlike other posters on this forum, I can openly concede that point because I just enjoy the offering. I don't use the health care to try and justify why one high fat food option is better than another. Louisa.

Astonishing > calorific values. As Jeremy quite rightly points out above, some people just enjoy things others don't. What's this ED obsession with wanting artisanal/organic this, that and the other ALL of the time? Or bad mouthing anyone who dares to enjoy something like a McDonald's or Subway once in a while? It goes back to my "look at me" post from the meat liquor thread. Some people just don't get that people eat in places because they like it. They seem obsessed by being 'seen' eating in the latest place rather than just enjoying the food. It's very odd behaviour, snobby bewildering and tiresome. Louisa.

Foxy that's not my point. My point is simple. People: Subway isn't good value for money and isn't healthy. Me: neither are lots of things you constantly bang on about on the forum. People: but that's different because I enjoy it. Me: how is that different? It's still not healthy and the prices aren't cheaper, in fact they're often more expensive. Just because you enjoy them doesn't make them superior to something someone else enjoys. People: yes it does because I enjoy it. END OF DISCUSSION. Louisa.

So after the initial application rumours, restaurant and cocktail bar chain 'Turtle Bay' have put an application in with Southwark to turn the current furniture shop on the corner of Rye Lane and Bournemouth RD in Peckham into a branch of one of their lively restaurants. Famous for their cocktails served from a centre piece island bar, this is the kind of place Peckham needs for everyone to get something from this renaissance period. http://planbuild.southwark.gov.uk/documents/?GetDocument=%7b%7b%7b!OhwdFdDIRGjU79bc23g6SQ%3d%3d!%7d%7d%7d planbuild.southwark.gov.uk:8190/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=_STHWR_DCAPR_9568681 It's going to be housed in part of the former Holdrons Department store buildings. Ground floor level I believe. Louisa.

And I've also spoken to people who are into pizza, and on the value for money front Franco Manca isn't in the same league as Pizza Express for example, who offer voucher code deals and free bottles of prosecco for birthdays or special occasions with a code. Subway also offer voucher code deals and meal deals on a regular basis. Do FM also do this? Genuine question, if me and Mr L went into FM and ordered a starter bottle of wine and pizza each maybe a side salad to share too, how much would it roughly cost compared to Pizza Express with its voucher code options? Louisa.

So because I mention something you enjoy not being healthy, which lets face it, it's not. You enjoy this food, that's fine, but it doesn't somehow make it healthy. Pizza is not healthy, neither are burgers (in excess). Lots of fatty cheese and meats, olive oil, dressings, carbs etc Some other people enjoy Subway, also not healthy in excess, but because you don't like it or believe it's not value for money it makes it worse than Franco Manca on the health front? I am as ever confused and bewildered by the EDF. Louisa.

'Le Chardon' changing hands/being sold

Well sourced minced meat, coming from ONE animal and stored at a specific temperature and not contaminated by other meat products CAN be served medium/rare if it means specific guidelines regarding heat exposure during the cooking process which can limit bacteria to less than 10 per however many grams of meat. It still isn't 100% full proof, and I think most restaurants now warn you before serving up undercooked ground mince. Louisa.

Titch steak tartare is basically a raw burger patty,Mitch seasoning and spices. It isn't appealing to me in the slightest. My point was more referring to cuts of beef (in particular), being cooked with any bacteria residing on the outside being killed off in a searing process, unlike with minced up beef which may have bacteria which cannot be killed if it is undercooked because the bacteria may be residing on the inside away from any heat. Jeremy I have not made my mind up about the food, and what's wrong with having a well done burger? Isn't that how burger should always be served? Louisa.

titch juicy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Louisa Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > I don't get why these places serve up half raw > > minced meat and pass it off as 'medium/rare'. > > Louisa." > > because it tastes better. Not when your sat on the toilet or puking for several days after eating it because dangerous bacteria hasn't been killed off during the cooking process. Also it's a matter of opinion, I don't personally enjoy the taste of undercooked mincemeat, unlike steak for example which consistency wise is very different (to me anyway). Louisa.
-
I don't get why these places serve up half raw minced meat and pass it off as 'medium/rare'. It isn't a steak FFS, which is a single slab of meat with any germs restricted to the outside of the meat. Even the best quality steak mince is raw and can contain some bacteria, and I think even the food standards people recommend throughly cooking burgers all the way through. I agree the decor and style isn't to my liking, but I shall try the food via take away just to see how great a burger and chips can possibly be. If they offer this stuff up to be taken home then I expect it to be good, simple as that really, and my "tiresome 'value review'" will be honest, if it's good and worth the money I'll certainly not be holding back on telling everyone. I will also be trying Xoco once I have stopped fuming over my previous failed attempt to get a table at a LL eatery. Louisa.

http://meatliquor.com/london/menu/Meatliquor-W1-Menu-Web.pdf Let me get this right, a cheeseburger (cheapest burger item I can see on the main menu) is ?8. You then add on chips (fries they like to call them) which in there most basic form on the menu start at ?3.35, that ?11.35 for burger and chips and that's before we even get to the drinks menu. It's fried food, full of fat and something you should only have as a treat once in a while. I don't get how these new hipster type restaurants/take aways get away with charging this much for burger and chips I really don't. Despite not being able to get a table last week, I am going to have to get a take away to see what all the fuss is about. The best part of ?30 for me and mr L to have burger and chips at home, it better be good. Louisa.

I agree rendalharris that often healthier options are available for similar or even cheaper prices a lot of the time, even here in ED. Perhaps some take away options do exploit the 'value for money' card a lot of the time, and of course that's down to the individual to decide which options are most cost effective and healthy. However, sometimes people just prefer certain things and that's down to them. What I dislike is this nanny state approach, dictating to people do as I say and not as I do. For me personally, Franco Manca is high in salt and fat, just as unhealthy as any number of take away options locally- and yet, because it's marketed at people of a certain income bracket it therefore validates it's credentials as a healthy option. It isn't when compared to a fresh salad free from dressings at M&S, to use your example. People like what they like, and that's down to them. But for some people to bad mouth Subway when more expensive options locally are also selling unhealthy options is a little bit 'pot kettle' IMO. Louisa.

Robert Poste's Child Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > When you're on a budget, making a sandwich at home > is even better value... So someone on a budget shouldn't be able to treat themselves? Much like the rest of us do when and if we can get a table at any number of expensive eateries within artery choking distance. Louisa.
-
They might not have very healthy components to their offering, but I reckon almost all local food options - including the new MEATLiqour and Franco Manca, are not exactly 'healthy', cheese, fatty meats, bread bases. When you're on a budget something like Subway is a good addition compared to fried chicken and greasy kebabs, the other local budget options. At least it contains salad. Louisa.

Just found this on the planning portal. The existing newsagent at 100 Lordship Lane, 'ED Local', looks like it will be sharing the space with a branch of Subway aka 'eat fresh'. Guessing it will be a franchise? What does everyone think? Welcome addition? Will be handy if it's open late for the post night life crowd wanting a snack on the way home. http://planbuild.southwark.gov.uk:8190/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=_STHWR_DCAPR_9568891 http://planbuild.southwark.gov.uk/documents/?GetDocument=%7b%7b%7b!ux9H2xq98bHbAjZyYwj63Q%3d%3d!%7d%7d%7d Louisa.

Advertised freebies when you spend X amount on a take away, being forgotten to whoever bagged it up. Stuffed but still want my freebies. Louisa.

Foxy I am one for prawns, do Xoco have them on the menu? Do they offer a take away service? I think you and I may need to stop talking about ourselves before the narcissism police arrive and caution us. Anyway, over to *Bob* for the final word..... Louisa.

Goodness me all this drama over a bit of attention seeking. Seem to have hit the EDF nerve with this one! If people want to sit in a prime position in the window of a new venue lapping up attention, that's upto them, it's a free country! I'm just observing this fact. Some of us get turned away from a restaurant with empty seats, others miraculously manage to get prime seating. Just a perfectly rational social observation, but it appears some folk on here take it personally because perhaps it does hit that reality button. Well you'll all be glad to know I will be enjoying another take away tonight, possibly Indian, and I am currently sipping a chilled Sauvignon in the garden. Happy Friday everyone! Louisa.
