  1. Well, if what's been said in the papers is true, the other driver has been arrested for dangerous driving. It is awful, shocking news. Such a waste of talent. Hope his family will take some comfort in knowing how many people were awe struck by his abilities. Car Man was an excellent show.
  2. The Evening Standard had a pretty good article about this today. Sam Leith was the name of the columnist I think
  3. This feels like a strange thing to post on the ED Forum, but whilst I'm here.. Anyone know of a good careers or HR forum where you can crowd source opinion, just like our lovely EDF? I know the Guardian's Ask Jeremy column is brilliant, but obviously you have to rely on the editors picking up your story. Thanks
  4. We have moths in our basement conversion/ study. I've got 2 Rentokil cassettes various lavendar bags down there, tried the Rentokil moth spray, and still I keep seeing the little buggers. Has anyone fared better? I've also tried putting clothing and blankets that are stored down there in vacuum bags but they don't seem to ever stay shut. If anyone has a recommendation of vacuum bags that actually work and stay closed then pls also throw them my way
  5. Desmond's My personal experience of ED estate agents - Foxton's: don't even consider. Underhand and massively over-inflated prices amongst many reasons. - Haart: Really good sales agents, but as a buyer, pop in on a Saturday and you'll just see sullen-faced Saturday girls filing their nails. Potential buyers won't even get eye contact, let alone any normal customer service. The tumbleweed office on Lordship Lane is Haart's biggest downfall. They're otherwise fair. - Winkworth: Like Haart, good, honest(!) agents who sell hard but won't bullshit buyers. - Peddar: Don't have the same physical presence as the above 2 as their office is probably the wrong end of LL, but some good agents. They really push the appeal of networked offices in SE London. Fair valuation and more 'local feel'. - Ludlow Thompson: Cheeky chappy Essex lads who seem to think selling houses is like market trading. Had no faith in their experience and didn't appreciate salesman techniques. - KFH: Hugely over-inflated prices to start with, only for you to be forced to drop the price months later. One negotiator will drown you in his cologne and give you or potential buyers either hyperbolic scare-mongering or be downright ruthless and impersonal. Not a comfortable experience at all...
  6. Okay this can't be just bad luck now. Over the past nine months, I've had 4 parcels not turn up to their destination when sending from Forest Hill Road post office. Yes, they're always labelled and paid correctly and yes I keep the receipt but still. I won't risk it again.
  7. If you enjoy waiting 4 weeks for a routine appointment, being left on hold for 15 minutes each time you call, y our results being lost and the odd snappy, rude receptionist then I highly recommend Forest Hill Road Group Practice. Such a shame because the doctors are actually great.
  8. Most houses of this age will have some damp spots. The survey is always going to flag up worst case stuff - they have to cover all bases. Unless the walls are visibly crumbling, you were wheezing, or the walls were wet with large visible patches you'll probably find you're OK.
  9. Also really angry about this. And that does not mean I am against Road safety. The 20 mph on Sydenhan Hill is ludicrous. It's a long, wide and not too steep road that doesn't have any schools or care homes nearby as far as I'm aware As both a pedestrian and a motorist, I've actually felt less safe on this road since this limit came in because you can see people concentrating on either not pissing off the car behind or fretting about looking for cameras. So painfully slow - but that doesn't mean that when we drive at 30 we're suddenly reckless a-holes. Without a Tube or a train service that runs on time,or buses that take an hour to get to Central London, sometimes driving is a necessity as well as convenience. Feels like Savannaket are trying to score school swot points rather than think through this spending.
  10. Can sympathise with all of the Peckham- ZFD or Blackfriars commuters. You have to be very strategic about where to stand on the platform before you squeeze on and meet the armpit of a fellow commuter. When I worked in Farringdon, my stress levels were through the roof before I even got to work. The 8:36 is packed and or cancelled, and don't even mention the existence of the 08:42. Also - really unhelpful, random times. I now take the 08:23 Overground to Clapham J from the other platform which is also always late; every day. Southern also promised upgrades to the station, but platform 2 still has no roof tiles or working LED board. As SE London inevitably gets more popular due to everywhere else being stupendously unaffordable, surely someone is going to have to radically upgrade the quality, frequency and capacity of trains? Here's hoping.
  11. Great ideas, thanks everyone. Think we'll stick with Corsica (changing in Nice as the directs ate too limiting) & ferry to Sardinia for a day trip.
  12. Thanks. Did you happen to go to Calvi, Bonifacio or Porto Vecchio?
  13. We're trying to book a honeymoon for late June and can't decide between Corsica, Sardinia (or even mainland Italy). We will hire a car when we're there and don't mind doing a 'twin centre' type thing as we'll have 2 weeks. Any thoughts? Ideally we'd have a mix of - visiting sleepy mountain villages - some mountainy activities, e.g kayaking, hiking - a few days to see gorgeous white beaches Not fussed about St Tropez style glamour. We thought Corsica, but some have said it's SO expensive to eat. Thanks in advance
  14. Gutted to hear that. It's how they got into ours too. Sad, worthless people. Yeah keep an eye on gumtree!
  15. Going to ignore the last comment very quickly before it turns into a firestorm... Sorry to hear this Natalie, and feel your pain as the same thing happened to us in March. May I ask how they got in, and did they bypass any security features? )If I remember correctly, you need to ask to add any sightings or suspicions to the police intel team. This doesn't always happen with the team that come out to see you.)
  16. Thanks for sharing the petition. Right, back to work..
  17. Searched the forum but nothing came up...but does anyone know what street Enid Blyton grew up on in East Dulwich? Or is there a blue plaque?
  18. Agree! I know it's a chain but even a Boots would be great. Still love ED though, whatever happens
  19. Really feel for you TeaD, it's shocking when they yell at you and don't give explanation. Doesn't sound to me like you didn't do anything wrong in response. (Adonirum - kinda sad that you feel the need to go through peoples' previous posts and try stitch up a narrative. Who does that?! KalamityKel - taking Adronirum's advice, perhaps you should find something better to do with your ample time than pollute the forum with your frequent vitriol. Six thousand posts!) Also R Gustell - agree. My dad used to drive buses and he said it was like being a social worker at times! He loved it though, and took pride and dignity if he had to show the rule book. There's a sweet driver who does the P13 run who says 'hello' to everyone who gets on and genuinely looks like he loves his job. I salute those people.
  20. Hi I'd really love to know the pains, pitfalls and prices of extending a kitchen in a Victorian terraced house. If anyone here has had it done, I'd be super grateful to know how you went about it and how much it cost (feel free to PM if you'd rather not mention money on the forum). Ideally we'd like to go from the skinny awkward space to a wider kitchen diner. Considering the 3m that's within planning, versus a longer space that would require planning. Thanks!
