  1. They also expanded to Crofton Park so business must be good to have 4 vets within a 2mile radius. They've always been a lovely team. I hope they'll always stick to their high standards and friendly care.
  2. Ok. Where do we source our aluminium bifold doors from? We've had a quote directly from Kloeber, but I'd like to compare with some other reputable suppliers. I can't afford Schuco. Outside of the brand names I know, it becomes confusing as some glazing companies offer them, but don't reveal whose model or what the fabricator is. So how does the punter know if the resultant doors are good or not? I had a quote from somewhere in Bromley but they were cagey about the specifics of the manufacture. If you can help or share stories, please do.
  3. Does anyone have acoustic glass in their windows? We recently had our aluminium 1980s windows replaced with double glazing and acoustic layer. To be honest I can't notice any difference in noise reduction. Am I being unrealistic? For example; in the upstairs bedroom, I can hear cars on the main road which is about 60 doors away, or can hear the noise of vans reversing, or the chitchat from children on their way to primary school. As a shift worker I was hoping for a bit more of a noticeable difference. Have I been had, or should I also get wooden shutters to block noise? Thanks!
  4. Let us know how you get on Weathergirl. We also have pebbledash which was painted the colour of egg yolk! I hate it! McMahon and Essex Brickwork both quoted about ?5K plus VAT for removal of the pebbledash and repointing up to 90 bricks. A few people have had it removed on our street and it looks great. But Jeremy's point about the possibility of bricks being roughed up is one I hadn't thought of. Our other options (until we can save up the big bucks!) are 1. Smooth render over it and paint it. 2. Have someone just repaint it so it's at least not yellow. I know either is ideal. Unfortunately all our pillars and decorative mouldings around the Victorian window were also dashed with something, so whilst they're white, they have a rough coating. I'm all ears for advice.
  5. We are trying to reinstate the French door usually found at the end of Victorian living rooms into the side return outside. Our builder will knock it out & the lintel is still in place. But I figured it would be more cost effective to get a local joiner to make a timber French door and supply the glass rather than a window company. Please tell me if I'm wrong though. http://i66.tinypic.com/20frbk4.jpg
  6. Hi everyone Would anyone care to share how much they paid for the classic alcove shelving and cupboard either side of your fireplace? Also thinking of having MDF wardrobes made either side of the chimney breast in the bedroom too. Feel free to PM me if you'd prefer not to share the price here. I just need an idea of average costs for MDF and faux beading, assuming an in-fame design. Thanks. E.G. http://i64.tinypic.com/1g0luf.jpg http://i67.tinypic.com/zin1pl.jpg
  7. Talk to me about white goods. We're planning a new kitchen and might get as much as we can in the sales. We need (all integrated): double oven, hob, microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher and a fridge freezer. There's only 2 of us now but we're trying to think ahead about sensible choices in case we have a family. All I know is that I really don't want a combined washer-dryer, I'm 'meh' about fancy brands and features on fridges and dishwashers, and I really need a delay time on the washing machine. What am I not thinking about? What has been a lifesaver for your family? What do you think was a fad, in hindsight?
  8. We would like to replace our thin, aluminium sashes from 1989 with something more thermally efficient. I would love to be able to afford timber ones but at around ?2,000 a window it makes bays very expensive. We're thinking of authentic looking uPVC ones where they at least try to emulate the wood effect. Would anyone have any recommendations? I had s quote from Bespoke but it was astronomical & I found the guy really pushy and salesy. Wondered if it's worth researching companies in the Kent area.
  9. I'd also be interested to know how you get on. The London Door co are known for having sky high prices. There are hundreds of Victorian style doors in ED, surely not everyone paid ?3k?!
  10. My issue is though, that we have a combi boiler, not water tanks. I don't think you can pump water from a combi boiler as the water is heated as its used. Do you know if thr Megaflow can be used on a combi? I would really like a powerful shower!
  11. We?ve just moved into a 3 bed, 1 bath house. It has a new Worcester combi boiler, but not a very big one. We were hoping to install a downstairs loo under the stairs, but otherwise, no plans for a second bathroom for at least 7 years. Our current shower however, is like a dribble, so we?re having to use baths. It?s just a hose connected to the bath mixer taps. Is there any way to fix this in the short term or will we always have a low pressure problem with a combi system? As we?re updating the bathroom we would like to install a new standalone rain shower, but put off if it?s never going to be powerful. Do we switch to a a cold water tank system, or is there another way? Thanks neighbours!
  12. Wait what happened to the London Bridge trains?! Thought there were several from platform 2. I need to get to LSO St Lukes every day for a new job. It's slightly quicker to walk from Old Street than Farringdon. Does the London Bridge train (connecting me to Old St) not run anymore?!
  13. I'm also needing a cattery for two cats in October. Can anyone recommend somewhere? I hear some on Google have now closed down .,,
  14. I'm selling a flat with a nice view opposite. Out on the street if you bend your head you get great views.
  15. I'd say Crofton is slightly younger, artier and hipper due to proximity to Brockley. Syd is marginally quieter and more family orientated but you're sort of comparing apples with apples. No idea whether long-term, your money is best invested in one over the other postcode.
  16. Just go register on every agent on lordship Lane, do a search in Rightmove for SE22 and just bloody go and view things. Only then will you get a feel for the place and the view!
  17. This is ridiculous. Dulwich is a family orientated area where people usually live in the houses they buy. There is still high demand due to lack of housing, and you are simply not going to see the market crash. Unless people are buying to then flip the house again in six months then maybe you've got a point about not making tonnes of profit. But buying a home that you can live in for several years not only means you're putting your ? to good use but will generally always improve in value round here. Large super-houses may have cooled off in price but we needed that. This talk of flats and modest houses dropping by 10% is nonsense. It's just speculation breeding speculation. If I was buying now, I'd expect small to medium places to be 1% or maybe 2% cheaper than they were at the beginning of 2016 and I'd be okay with that. To me, now is actually a perfect time to buy. Take advantage of the more sensible pricing and the amazing mortgage rates coming up. To anyone who is midway through a purchase - go for it. My most senior colleagues and peers have crunched the numbers, done their forecasts and it suggests in East Dulwich you will not have a problem making money on your purchase. As much as we'd love to have a bash at the housing market, SE22 is still a great bet for investing what you have. Plus we get to live in this amazing neighbourhood which we are all so lucky to be part of. Amen!
  18. Has anyone tiled their front path in a cost effective way? It's only 5 x 1ft and I'm blown away by the variation in quotes I've received. Not bothered about it being thick, reclaimed quarry tiles, as long as it's a black & white mosaic style (think Topps do something similar). Any experiences you care to share?
  19. Can anyone recommend a place to add a 10 inch zip to a shoulder bag ? Needs to be open from 8:30 AM so I can go before work this week. Cheers
  20. I went through it. It was brilliant - peaceful, safe, jubilant and with a real passion behind it. There were people of all ages and backgrounds, the elderly, families with babies, dogs, teenagers and kids.
