  1. Forgive me if I'm being naive, but how does one clean the exterior white masonry on windows? We have a typical Victorian house that had its window sills and frames painted white last yr, but now look grimy from soil and dirty rainwater. I don't think they need reprinting yet again, but would like tips on cleaning them. Ta
  2. Hello What's the deal with the woman who keeps boarding the no 63 with a referee's whistle and causing a nuisance? It seems to be that when the bus driver refuses to allow her on (because she doesn't want to pay) she flaps a sign at him and blows this bloody whistle and dances. I wouldn't mind if she had obvious motivations, but her hand made signs say something different every day. Today's fine example was 'BAD PEOPLE'. i haven't been eating mushrooms, I promise.
  3. Hi Does anyone know what the new shop on the Forest Hill Road/ Dunstans Road corner will be? It has hoarding around it bit looks like it's coming along nicely. There is a fresco and some antique script that says something about wine (I think) but that could just be part of the restoration of the building.
  4. Hello Any ideas how we could remove our unsightly concrete patio at the back of our house? I suspect it was created to level the garden (previously you would have stepped up to the grassy area), but years on, it's cracked and mossy. We'd prefer a tiled patio..unless this is a huge job. See photos. It's about 9ft X 3ft. Thanks in advance
  5. Interesting as I observe as a fairly new resident, having moved from SW London in Summer last year. I feel a stronger sense of community (and no, I don't include the antagonist tw@s that sometimes populate this forum), a slightly older demographic than the Clapham and Balham crowd and feels more suburban.
  6. So what do the merry folk of East Dulwich do for New Years Eve? Are there any recommendations, other than speculate on the future of Iceland LL?
  7. Yeah, I would hate to think there might be another estate agent. We used to live in Balham where several nice independents closed down, only to be replaced by estate agents ( who then found there was less to sell as the area was chock full of nothing but estate agents -duh,)
  8. Thanks Strawbs. Puts me to shame that it takes me nigh on 5 hours to clean each week!
  9. Hello, Any interior types that can help? I have just painted my living room in Little Greene's French grey and disappointed in how lilac it looks. Yes, I did use a match pot and was obsessive about which colour to go for. If you Google images this colour, you'll see what I was aiming for. Anyway, could anyone advise which colour accessories to go for to counteract the blue- lilac tones? Thanks.
  10. Gaaaahhh!! For the past 3 weeks I haven't had a single train on time. Is this normal or just an unlucky time of year? Every single day either FCC or SE services from Peckham Rye to Farringdon are delayed. Anyway if you ever see an angry woman on the platform who cannot internalise the anger, it's me.. :-)
  11. Sorry to also hijack, but I'd appreciate any PM's / replies too. My circumstances are a bit different though. I only have a one bed flat (all separate rooms), and whilst I don't earn anything other than a median salary, I work silly hours. Inevitably, the cleaning gets left to the weekend and bam, my Saturday has gone. How many hours per week or per fortnight do you think I should request? How much per hour should I expect to pay? Do you all use agencies as oppose to private/ individuals? Thanks x
  12. I also do this route, but alight at Farringdon. I don't get a seat until Elephant on a good day, City Thameslink on a bad day. I'd say it was on time about 3 out of 5 times. When it is late, it's a pain because there's nothing else you can do but sit and wait.
  13. Having just moved here, remind me not to register with this place!
  14. Thanks all. I took the 08:28 number 63 yesterday, which took about 50 minutes so my whole journey ended up at 1 hour 5 mins from front door to front door. I took a train from Farringdon to Peckham Rye and did save about 15 minutes overall, but only because I was lucky to get on a train as soon I arrived a Farringdon. The bus was pretty painless but good to know there's other options too. Cyclists - are there any hairy moments on your route? I'm still a bit wary of cycling in London despite have lived here years..
  15. Wow some polarising views then! I think I will do a day with each option and figure it out. The P13 stops outside our house which I've noticed goes to Peckham Rye rail. The stop suggests it's an 11 min jorny from Underhill Rd to Peckham Rye rail but I somehow have my doubts..
  16. I deleted the reference tithe animal hospital thinking noone would know it! Ha! Thanks
  17. Hello. I'm new to ED, having moved near Hillcourt Road off Underhill Road. I'm a little worried about getting to work at a reasonable time (although won't miss my daily commute inside someone's armpit on the northern line). I work in Clerkenwell, (near the slaughtered lamb pub/ Goswell Road) so nearest station is Farringdon or Barbican. I need to be there between 9:15 - 9:30am. Any experiences of taking the bus to Peckham Rye station, then train to Farringdon vs number 63 all the way? Or any other suggestions? Thanks.
